You chop all the big trees that could shade a 8 storey block, then you build some 15 storey block that you can't shade, of course its hot. You need buildings that can be shaded by large trees to reduce urban heat island effect.

Idea: Big dehumidifiers powered by the sun. Then the Water collected can be used because SG is also concerned about water shortage.

It’s blazing hot in Thailand lately. I set my AC at 28C plus a fan and it was enough to cool my place.

I hope Singapore's government and people are committed to the green energy transition, so that the region as a whole can hopefully prevent the environmental situation from getting even worse.

@@Michelle_Wellbeck yupz commercials like you said. Green energy ain't cheap yet, poor people will go for the cheapest energy possible which is still fossil fuel. You look at Indonesia, adoption of ev vehicle for example,it's very slow especially cars because lack of charging infrastructure, high price and low monetary incentive. For ev bikes is better but also because there is the swapping battery company so people don't need to wait and charge battery but still way too slow to make any impact. Singapore investment in Indonesian companies are solely focussed to make money, they won't get involved in green energy transition. Commercial and green energy doesn't get along well since profitability is still priority for companies.

@@jefri4176 The government has already made a pledge to phase out internal combustion engine vehicles by 2050, so it's something but still so far away, there must be coordination with other countries in the region if it the deadline's going to be reached. Other than that the youth of Indonesia need to be incentivized to go into university courses oriented around green energy technology & green jobs, again Singapore with its educational resources can definitely contribute to this goal.

I don't recommend turning on/off AC on a timer unless you manually pry the vent blades open to air them. The last time I use the timer to on/off AC regularly. I notice mold grew due to moisture resting on the blades.

You can opt for standalone dehumidifiers that will use less energy than an AC and lower the humidity so about 55-65% or combine them both to use higher temperature settings on the AC with a dehumidifier to maintain the RH.

Gardens By the Bay was the prototype. Now just build a dome for every housing estate within the boundaries of the roads. Then cover everything in solar panels. Then build connecting bridges for jogging and cycling. Then do that water cooling thing again, with fans to ensure a constant minimum level of wind. You'll only melt if you drive, but seeing as most Singaporeans don't drive, that's a major win for Singapore. Hey, drive underground lah. Alternative is to move to Siberia, Russia.

How about having a white roof which is called cool roof, they do very well at keeping the temperature down without the needing of electricity by reflecting the sunlight back to space, and reducing a lot of heat absorption which causes the heat not to radiate everywhere but it leads the temperatures to being reduced of having it be cooler automatically. This causes your AC to cool down your home faster and the cold air stays inside your home for a longer time before your AC needs to turn on again. It also reduces temperatures from its surrounding area outside too creating a more cooler and comfortable environment 👍.

Great tips on staying cool and cutting costs during hot weather! Using curtains as insulation and maintaining higher indoor temperatures not only save energy but also significantly reduce electricity bills, combining comfort with cost-effectiveness. 👍

Yes, use curtains, but it also depends what colour the curtain is because if you have white curtains, it will reflect sunlight back to space reducing heat absorption but if you have black curtains, it will absorb heat making the temperature hotter so yeah if you want to keep your home cool with curtains, use white.

We need to accept the fact that we are a tropical country and aircon is useful. If carbon emissions are a concern, then are there are other ways to cut them. Like instead of demolishing structurally fit buildings, retrofit them. Building gardens inside the building requires manual water usage and maintenance and does not serve as a useful green replacement. Hybrid cooling has not been very well received as it's too warm and stuffy. Naturally ventilated shopping centres are warm, have a lot of wasted space as the NV areas are underutilised and require large facade openings.

Oh please don't change dry mode in the day. I watch blue cat video n change my ac to dry mode for 3 weeks. All of a sudden my ac stop blowing cold air. Force me to pay for expensive servicing and the same ac team who service my house ac for 10 years tell me dry mode not suitable in day cos it's hot. Plus when u put dry mode your ac also dehumidifies so it's extra job. If room not dust free it choke alot faster.

  • @DavidCheok

    @DavidCheok

@@celestialstar124 Bro.. your AC automatically dehumidifies air as it cools. The only difference between the two modes is in cool mode the cooling coil is constantly cold while the other the coil is intermittently cooled. Dry mode works better in warmer temperatures as its easier to remove the water and saves more energy. Your AC needs servicing regardless of mode as the servicing interval is dependent on the total volume of air that has passed through the unit.

  • @DavidCheok

Just to help you understand. AC cools by pumping a refrigerant into the cooling coil where warm air is passed over it. When this happens, as the air cools, the moisture it contains is deposited on the coils and down a tray and transported outside. This is why there is always water dripping out from the pipes.

My best advice is using cool roofs which is a white roof instead of a darker colour roof, because darker coloured roofs absorb more heat, but meanwhile, a white roof reflects a lot more sunlight heat back to space to keeping the temperature cooler inside the home naturally causing the AC to be used less often which leads to less polluting in hot climates. And white roofs creates a cooler and comfortable environment too.

If news like suggesting cool places to be at like "fishing at sea" to counter the bad voltage from equator hole causing secret hot/pain into body? The stucking of neodymium silicone can create into a secret injury unspotted, I feel if handymans somehow can know how to counter it? It's already hot then "another incoming-damage to anticipate". The best knob temporary d.i.y too maybe as news to tip of "any danger" in life?
