Another confession that some have to make to themselves at times is "I cannot afford this right now." I have been collecting 1/6 for almost twenty years, and of that twenty years, I had a ten year stretch where I only got 5 figures, because I was able to admit to myself that I couldn't afford it at that time. Now that life has been going more smoothly for me, I've been back in the game in a big way and my collection has nearly doubled in a years time. Would I be in this position now if I hadn't made a good financial decision way back then? Probably not. I've said it before that collecting is supposed to be fun and is supposed to enhance your life, not be a detriment. Great video, KeCo. You continue to make it a joy to click play.

This video was great! One of the major benefits of a communal experience is the sharing of ideas. If we all had the same collecting philosophy, the same favorite figures, and the same opinions on TV shows and films, we may as well just look in a mirror and talk to ourselves instead of posting our thoughts online. As long as we're respectful and kind to one another, that's what matters. Provided the kindness and thoughtfulness is present in any conversation, we should embrace one another for our differences, not attack one another for them.

I agree with the not having fun part! I used to collect a lot of 1/12 figures, and often felt the need to complete the line otherwise my display wouldn't be accurate/up to the "standard" (which doesn't even exist) eventually I got tired of buying figures I didn't even want and sold off everything 1/12 to just focus on 1/6 and statues

Figures helped ME (and some others I know including a cancer patient -- it's subjective) so much in my life! Made me quit so many bad habits and things that were longstanding in my life that I just couldn't get RID of, even though I tried for YEARS. Best I could do was off and on like a yo-yo. I have been CLEAN since I started collecting. My theory is that 1. It has to do with the environment (they change your environment by being there with you - can search '9 Environments of You' if interested, a niche subject). And 2. The ability to gain 'flow' states when doing poses or admiring your own pose. Admiring your own pose done right gives an energy that is not attainable otherwise, even if you copy someone else's pose, the fact that you were able to do it for some reason really sends a signal to the brain. If I researched hard, I could probably figure out the nitty gritty of it, but it's like when they say that WRITING, HAND-WRITING on a piece of paper (such as goals) gives a FAR greater chance of success than typing, etc. That's probably what's going on with figure posing and reposing since it's hands on (and more). I have yet to meet a figure collector who is unhappy, unless they are quitting the hobby or doing something wrong (like keeping company with negative people which would cancel the environment benefit) or never reposing even if a pose has gone stale or such. Regardless, just a short little thing I wanted to mention about how the hobby has helped ME and others.

You sound like the kinda guy I would love to sit down and have a good chat about collecting, someone who is introspective. Yes, you are right about everything you said. For some people, it is clear to see that it is an addiction. I myself went down that route. It was one day when I looked at the mountain of boxes and having to move and arrange them that I thought to myself, “ why am I spending thousands of dollars on this very expensive Tetris game? Then when I got my display cases and started planning what I really want to display with the limited space I have, which pieces really meant something to me, that it went back to being a hobby. I then sold off pieces that I never thought I would sell and was totally ok with that. Selling brought an even bigger, if not the same, sense of joy as collecting. Why do we get into senseless arguments with people over toys based on made up characters? Because it is a symptom of our unhappiness. Deep down, we all have unresolved issues we keep buried with shots of dopamine from acquiring each new piece and they manifest as arguments with people we don’t even know. I know I have.

Great Video! I have been collecting for about 2 years. In this hobby collecting what makes you happy is important. Recently I find that there seems to be a lot of pressure to collect a line or a show. With all the great figures being released it’s hard not to go down that rabbit hole. I think it’s ok to just pick 1 or 2 from a line that makes you happy. I only have 19 figures. Low count for 2 years. I constantly need to really dig deep and ask myself a lot of the questions you brought up in this video. Thanks again for the great content.

I’ll tell you what, I definitely suffer from the impulse buying thing or FOMO! I can’t tell you how much money I’ve spent, and lost, buying figures that I just don’t connect with. I mean I liked most all the figures I bought, but in the end I just didn’t feel that connection. That’s why now I strictly stay in the Star Wars universe, and even more specific, the OT. I had most of those ANH figures when I started out, and then I sold them to get other figures, and then sold those figures just to rebuy the figures I had originally. Never again! Now with my current restrictions, I can appreciate my collection now. Great video again! Keep up the great work and ignore all the haters!

Really hope there aren't too many folks in the last confession category. Collectors really should enjoy whatever they've accumulated whether a single figure or an allotment. For myself I've fallen victim to the overpayment during the early stages of collecting and prior to the 2.0 reissue increase of the current timeline. That in and of itself has allowed me to save plenty of money and take a more conservative approach overall. Great video and hope new and old collectors take all of this for what it's worth since all very valid points!

Haha that intro was hilarious. I think what could help is to have a certain number of figures you want to have. Let's say 200 figures in your case, and every time you get above 200 figures, you have to sell a figure to make space. That way, you become quite selective over time, and you only buy the figures you really want. And slowly, you get rid of the figures you don't really care for. That way, you only keep your favorite figures.

Ok, my one confession among many I'd like to share. I overpaid for Scarlet Witch (the 2nd most expensive at that time), like $900 including custom taxes AND it came quite defective!!! Suit has chips and misalignment of the silver triangle on her collars. Also, what the seller showed was not what I received. He showed the Hot Toys shipping box, but I didn't get one. He also showed a GOLD sticker box which is what I wanted since back then I also collected the boxes, but I got an overseas black Hot Toys sticker on it!). It was off eBay and I could have returned it or gotten a discount but I didn't (due to my lovely wife's advice who I respect). I kept it and thanked the seller even though I was feeling so bad about it all (just natural feelings that come from being conned or injustice or unfair treatment). The reason was for charity purposes. Logically (regardless of emotions), I did feel that the person was in need of money, so I just kept the figure without gaining any discount even though I easily could have even probably kept the figure for free due to eBay's policies. I'm just using very high level knowledge about how the world works from a meta perspective. I didn't get bogged down in the small thing (which FELT like a huge thing) and went for a the bigger purpose of charity and saving someone from going homeless which will help me tremendously in the long term. I might sound like a dummy to some, but my life results say otherwise :)

I'll admit that when I first started collecting I started collecting backwards - hunting the older models. In some cases, I place my hand on my heart and admit that I might have overpaid, especially for models that were no longer in free circulation - my biggest splash being the Avengers Hulk for which I paid a good lump of money. But since I focused on DC/Marvel Hot toys figures I do not consider myself an addict that needs to go and hunt anything out of my scope of collection. The only double figures that I have are Ironman, Batman, Spiderman since those are my childhood heroes. Since then I think I have calmed down a bit. I still have preorders (1989 Batman, Bain V.2 etc) but on the whole I think I am in control.

I love your content on KZread! I do follow you on Instagram, but it's easier to follow you on YT. You give a fresh perspective on Hot Toys and other collectibles. I like listening to different people talking about this topic. It helps me learn new things and see from another person's eyes! That's what makes collecting fun! I'm more of a hobbyists. I have a couple of themes and stay with that. I admire Hot Toys and other companies sixth scale figures with the amount of work they put in to capture the likeness of the actor. I consider it a work of art! I also, I would be broke and run out of room fast if I bought every great figure or statute that came along! So, I stay with my tried and true characters that I loved as a kid and if nothing new comes down the pike, that's ok! I love what I have and I'm extremely happy with my collection! Keco, this video is great, and if you left the Collecting KZreadr scene, we'd be so much poorer for it. I definitely disagree with some of your stances (particularly on Inart, but you do have some valid points, too), but it is good to hear multiple perspectives on a topic to broaden our horizons, such as your reaction to a certain Jedi's actions on Acolyte. I am seeing this video at a very timely moment as well, just before watching it, I had to stop myself from impulse buying the Black Suit Spider-Man after hearing Justin gush about it on his review. I have a dangerous amount of pre-orders right now and have been trying to curb buying until I make sure everything's affordable. Unfortunately, this will mean the selling of some long loved pieces in my collection, but that's the position I've gotten myself into. It helps with the disappointment to know that others have experienced similar things, too. Anyway, please continue to keep up the great work, I look forward to your future videos and participation on Will's show.

My supplier for my Gandalf figure was let down, and as a result, they had to cancel it. I was gutted, and now I can't find one. At least at a reasonable price. I am willing to overpay a little as the character means a lot to me. But I'm not going to pay the stupid prices people are asking. I was tempted to don't get me wrong, but ultimately, common sense took over. As for people being upset and you quiting. Politely put thats their problem, not yours. They clicked your video, and they knew what they were getting into. Keco, don’t change who you are for these clowns. I’ve been scrolling through the comments to respond to the negative dipshits. 🤪 They seriously need to go outside. I just wish you’d do more videos with figures. Doesn’t have to be a review. Looking forward to the next video of the process to be a YT’er and making videos. Btw, I couldn’t even make myself match those Friday shows with Will when you were on vacation. No shade on the others. But it’s not the same without you big homie.

    1. On the border of being addicted. There have been many figures that I've wanted but went "it's ok if don't have it". But there are figures that I have a 1.0 of that's good enough but that 2.0 is just that much better that I want to get it. 2. Definitely overpaid for some figures. War machine mk1 diecast was 600 but then got reissued years later so ok. Justice League batfleck was 700. 2.0 came out of nowhere even though DCEU is dead. Finally, crosshair was almost 1k. That one was a bit of a wake up call to not do that ever again. 3. I'm thankful that I'm not offended by others' opinions. Even though Will INCORRECTLY thinks the sequel trilogy is GOATED I'd be more interested in understanding why he thinks that instead of trying to cancel him, etc. 4. Only because of the current economy, I'm not having fun. I'm still able to prioritize the important things like food and utilities, but sometimes I think I wouldn't be worried about money so much if I stopped collecting. I'm taking care of my parents so a majority of my paycheck is for them so collecting is really all I do for myself. If I stopped I think I would be even sadder. But if the economy continues this way I will definitely have to make a decision. Great video as always and don't worry about the people who are offended by things you say

No 1 confestion i believe .is collect the figure you like from ip .for example padme i got .she amazing but i dont others to make my collection complete people collect star. Wars cause it biggest ip .ibet you do not have connection to every figure in your colkection but brought cause it a set from sertain movie or ip.i have narrowed mine to just female figure .as i believe nine times out ten they have stronger rolls in movies than people think .it old saying .less is more fun .buying everything .is waste time and money .and figures look to crowded togher.i like debates whethr i right or wrong .so i will not unsubscibe you channel .cause you dont agree with me.and be honest if you averged out how much you spend on one figure and times by how many you got.you be shocked.never complain how many bags or shoes your partner have .

Yeah don’t quit. You can’t worry about the subs & views because this is a niche community. It’s not going to be but so big. There’s only a few exceptions like Justin. I know you always sound disappointed when you put in a lot of effort in your videos and you say it flopped. You have to do it for the love of the hobby. I know you want your work to be fruitful with the clicks. This high end 1/6th community it’s mass market. Keep doing what you do bro.
