Hot Off The Press - Understand Bowling Ball Flare

Спорт

Lou Marquez and USBC research engineer Tom Frenzel discuss bowling ball flare in this episode of Hot Off The Press.
Ever notice how the oil rings on your bowling ball create a bowtie, and spread out instead of laying directly on top of one another? This is the result of the bowling ball "flaring" as it rolls down the lane. Well, what is that?
In this episode, Lou and Tom discuss the important of flare, what it does for the motion of the ball on the lane and why it's important to you, the bowler.

Very well described for us trying to understand flare a bit more.... Two-handed bowling though without thumb but same principle. Mo tells us to drill 3 1/2" deep finger holes to account for typical mass removal when drilling thumb holes. Same concept though with regards to flare regardless of thumb and no-thumb bowlers

13 seconds in Lou says "you can see we have 3 distinct balls". They all look like the same ball to me.

I just got a new black and blue knockout. I could see 4 rings of oil. Does this mean the ball is flaring a lot?

And, does this amount of rings equate to rev rate?

If the pap and the pin rotates 4% toward the axis point and below the pin towards the pins the rings of circles will widen depending on whether it's the groundhog, platypus or leave it to beaver oil pattern . You guys my as well be speaking Ancient Greek... Please understand most people don't know what you are talking about..simplify please...thanks..David/DA the comment below me understood some of it...the goal...but simplify how you get there...thanks

IDK if there are simple explanations and if they start from the beginning then only nerds like me would still be watching after 2 minutes. I'm learning this too. What terms and concepts did you understand? I will try to fill in some of the gaps.

AGREED! My original question was, What is Flare? Now, it’s What is PAP? What is RG? Etc. You can’t explain or define something with “Big Words”. Rather, you can’t explain Flare and expect your viewers to know acronyms and other bowling terms at least not without a brief explanation or example. Get it together fellas. Smh.

Perfect scientific explanation, but too much jargon for a video for people trying to learn. Someone once said "If you can't explain it simply, you don't really understand it"
