HOT Metal Detecting | RCM Rally 2023
Ойын-сауық
Metal detecting at a big rally like RCM in the heat can be an exciting and rewarding experience. However, there are a few things to consider to ensure you stay safe and get the most out of your metal detecting adventure.
1. Stay Hydrated: The heat can be intense during a big rally, so it's crucial to bring plenty of water to stay hydrated. Keep a bottle or two of water with you at all times to prevent dehydration.
2. Dress Appropriately: Wear lightweight, breathable clothing that covers your skin to protect yourself from the sun. A hat or cap can also provide shade for your face and keep you cooler.
3. Use Sunscreen: Apply sunscreen generously before heading out to the rally. Reapply it at regular intervals to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
4. Pace Yourself: Metal detecting can require physical exertion, so take breaks in the shade to rest and cool down periodically. Don't overexert yourself in the heat, as it can lead to heat exhaustion or heatstroke.
5. Bring Snacks: Pack some energy-boosting snacks like granola bars or fruits to keep your energy levels up during the rally. Avoid heavy or greasy foods that can make you feel sluggish in the heat.
6. Stay Aware of Your Surroundings: In a crowded rally, it's important to be mindful of the people around you. Ensure your metal detector doesn't inadvertently hit someone while you walk or swing the detector. Stay vigilant and respectful of others attending the event.
7. Stay Safe: Be cautious of the ground you're walking on while using a metal detector. Watch out for uneven terrain, obstacles, or potentially hazardous objects. Stay focused on both your surroundings and the signals your metal detector is giving you.
8. Follow the Rules: Some rallies might have specific rules or regulations regarding metal detecting. Familiarise yourself with these rules before attending the event to avoid any potential issues.
9. Document and Share: If you find any interesting or valuable items during the rally, consider documenting and sharing your finds with the event organisers FLO or the PAS (Portable Antiquities Scheme). They will appreciate the historical or archaeological value of your discoveries, but ensure you declare treasure finds within 14 days by law.
Remember, metal detecting at a big rally in the heat is not just about finding treasures but also about enjoying the experience with fellow enthusiasts. Stay safe, take care of yourself, and have fun exploring the rally like I did :-)

Ben is easy on the eye. Good find ;) The size of those fields, I've never seen anything like it!
That was a great adventure and some interesting finds. Last year at Detectival, I had been walking all day Sunday and it was knackered, it was 4:45, so I thought I had better walk back. When I checked with What 3 Words App, I was 6 kilometers away. I nearly sat down and cried, but of course I did it. When I got back to the arena I met two of my KZread Heroes and that made the whole day magic. Oh and I found a 'D.D. ring Thing' which made me smile.
It's amazing you didn't come back looking like a roasted joint of meat... Nice to see you back in the swing of things anyway flower. I hope you're happy, healthy and full of the joys of metal detecting :) :)
I'd have thought - on a vast area like that - rule 10, remember where you started from, so you can get back!

You looked hot! ( as ever😊 ) - Glad you enjoyed the British summer down sarf! Returned myself from a long day detecting in the sun - thankfully took and needed lots of drink! Ground was so hard in places I even had to bring a clump home with me to break up later! 🙄

I have for nearly a week ha
P.S. your ever-present, interminable, unstoppable and inspiring enthusiasm for the hobby is amazing. There's a lot of people in this world that would benefit massively from just a teaspoonful of your attitude to life. I don't suppose you could bottle the stuff and sell it, could you? You'd be a billionaire within a week... I'm not a metal detectorist and have no intention of becoming one, I'm pretty sure I watch your videos purely to brighten the day (which they always do), even when the day has been a brilliant one :) :) Keep up the good work and don't change! P.S S. Not to be at all horrible here, as I wish you every success I finding your dream items. Though I hope you don't find anything too valuable because I think your heart might actually stop... 😀😀 Of course I'm just being silly. I've every confidence that you'll get the bucket-listers eventually. Brilliant video.
nice to see you out digging at dawn, That item that needed careful cleaning is lucky you never found it eh! mate? I must say though having vultures circling above must bring into focus your mortality. I'm glad you were given a lift to the site you poor olde sod.
Maybe that gold is waiting for you on the next rally. I am sure Chris would have carried you back if you couldn't make it 🤣🤣
