My wife intentionally wears higher end perfumes and higher end clothing to medical appointments. She feels that she receives better care. While it should not matter and the provider should provide the same care regardless, that is not reality. She has learned that she is listened to better and her needs are better met when she dresses and has a scent which conveys $.

I’m a long time viewer in my 30s also going through some undiagnosed and scary health issues since the past year. All these hospitals visits have just made me more aware of how short life really is, and I’ve actually started to cut down and even give away some of my perfume collection. I gravitate towards more light and fresh scents (Jo Malone Wild Bluebell since 2023) ❤ Hope your health is nothing but pristine from now on 😍

I'm sincerely sorry for what you've been through, and I really wish you recover from this experience...😢 It reminds me of a pretty bad time I've been through years ago, I stayed at the hospital for quite a while and, on my mom's very first visit, I remember her proudly taking out of her bag a big bottle of 19 poudré from Chanel to sheer me up , and help me feel humanised again...I couldn't stop spraying it on me and all around my room, which would help me cope with my loneliness when visiting time was over, and my mom had to leave me. So, 19 poudré has a very special place in my life... Sending you all my love ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hi Dacob! I have a rule: never use fragrances while in hospital ( even if it is a quick thing, like doing yearly blood work), on attending the funeral. Just two big NO for me. I simply do not want this fragrance I am wearing to remind me of time visiting doctor's office or a funeral. Maybe it is just me.

Yes this is me too! You don’t want to be reminded of hard or sad times and scent is very good at creating memories quickly and you will be connected right back to that time and perfume isn’t that good for your health when you are ill 🤒😅🥰

I’m glad your fragrances could provide some comfort during this scary time. Best wishes for a smooth, full recovery. I actually just ordered a full bottle of Chanel’s Jersey in anticipation of an operation I’ll be having later this year. It’s my comfort scent and probably the only one I’ll wear during recovery. I also plan to spray Estée Lauder Beautiful on a scarf that I can sniff while in the hospital. It was my grandmother’s favorite, and she’s my guardian angel now.

Glad to hear you continue to recover well. Having had quite a lot of surgery and hospitalisations over the years I found this video interesting. Anaesthesia can affect the way we respond to smells for a while as it leaves our systems. Hormones & illness also affect the way we actually sense or perceive certain smells too (just ask anyone who has been pregnant!). It’s a good idea you didn’t want to spoil any of your favourites with those associations. Your respect of the sensibilities of staff and patients is commendable. It’s terrible to be seriously ill and have a loud fragrance even an otherwise lovely one, assault one’s senses and be unable to escape!🙏🏼 22:07

So sorry to hear that you had to have surgery. It definitely looks like you're on the mend, so that's great. You reminded me of my younger self back in June of 1993. I had to take a shower before I went to the hospital too. It's the only time I've been in the hospital, and it was to have my daughter. I was 26 years old. I started getting contractions, and was told to come to the hospital. It was so funny, because I immediately jumped in the shower, because I wanted to be clean at the hospital. My husband was cracking up, at me taking a shower. I did put perfume on, but I can't remember which one. Once I started going into labor, I began to get really nervous about having the baby. Good thing I showered and put perfume on, because my daughter wasn't born until 22 hours later. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your experience and your comfort perfumes. Again, I'm so glad that you're alright. You take care!!

Hi Dacob. You know I love your videos, your knowledge and your very indepth way of describing fragrances. I hope everything is alright with your health going forward. BUT I myself have spent the last year and four months in and out of the hospital including multiple visits to the ER and also surgery. I also have my own KZread fragrance (mainly) channel. I have to say that any fragrance in the hospital at all was very disturbing to me. Despite signs everywhere stating that fragrance in the hospital was prohibited, I smelled it on many of the hospital workers and it was a problem for me, of course I said nothing and would not say anything because I really appreciated them BUT now I am more sensitive to others who might be as sick or sicker than I was.. I know Eau Sauvage would have made me sick if the doctors were wearing it and I LOVE Eau Sauvage! Even deodorants (I suspect) on the male nurses was very disturbing. I realize that it's hard to understand how a fragrance can make someone dizzy or nauseous if it does not have that result for us, but I know I would not want my mom to have to go through what I did and have fragrances cause her more pain. Sorry to make a negative comment Dacob, I am sure you knew some would. Cheers and keep on doing the great stuff you do!

I am pretty sure there's a reason for all those signs asking visitors and patients to refrain from wearing fragrance. I though my comment was pretty understanding and appreciative of what you've been through. Sadly you've disappointed me with your reply which seems a bit selfish. My mom had emphysema and so I do know how she would have felt and it would have been a serious problem for her to be anywhere near a dude who just doused himself in Eau Sauvage. Oh, sending you wishes of the best recovery and hoping you feel much better - I love the hospital room you generated - it really touched an uplifting feeling - wish they were actually like that - it’s kind of amazing you thought of perfume, but a great idea- - I just started my perfume journey and did think of a specific scent recently to help me through a hospital experience - the specific hospital holds some dark memories for me, so the scent really helped me turn my emotions around - guess it sort of grounded me and made me feel more human

Hope your recovery has continued to go well. I had a major surgery on January 2nd of this year. I didnt know what to take with me. So I decided on Gris Charnel. I find it a really comforting perfume, yet also a little more formal in some aspects. I tend to wear Coco mademoiselle intense for any hospital appointments. Yet also, I feel I could wear it just as easily with no discouraging associations, if I wore it to get coffee with a friend. However, I can fully understand why people want to keep things very separately. How interesting that you craved very different fragrances as you recovered both physically and emotionally from surgery. You must have been very tuned in, to what you needed energetically through fragrance as you healed

I hope you have fully recovered from your surgery too 💖🥰💖 I did feel in tune with what my body and soul needed after the surgery. It was a very delicate moment and I did not shy away from it but rather embraced it and went with my emotions 🥰💖🥰

I would have never thought to do this, but it makes perfect sense! I would take childhood scent memory fragrances that make me feel cared for. Not to wear, but to sniff from the bottle when I need comfort. These are the fragrances I savor at home when I need solace. Lander lilac bath oil, gives me the presence of my Grandmother; Avon Charisma reminds me of my Mother giving me a bath as a wee little one; and maybe Tinkerbell Lily of the Valley, which transports me straight to the bliss of my early childhood. Thank you so much Dacob, from the bottom of my heart!

I had a surgery and I took Jersey (overnight) and it was wonderful! I wore it overnight in a private room. It may have been a little much. It didn’t taint the perfume for me. It’s still about relaxing. Glad you are well, doll face. We need you!

So sorry you were in the hospital. It's awful. I wore EL White Linen when I was sick & in hospital. It was Summer in the South. Hot & Humid! I had to go everyday to the hospital for a treatment. It took me a year to recover. I felt like it made me feel clean & fresh. It's my hospital/doctor scent. So glad you are back. I love your videos. I am a Chanel 22 & Chanel Beige wearer. I did wear Vivienne Westwood for years & Poison before....so I can relate to your perfume history. Hope you are well now. I look forward to your videos. I watched all your Chanel videos.

So glad you are recovering well. When I had surgery I took a card I’d sprayed perfume on and popped it in my glasses case which also lightly scented my glasses. I found it very comforting to be able to smell it without actually needing to spray any perfume. Thank you for sharing your experience and the perfumes that have helped you through this experience.

Thank you kerry 🙏🏻🥰💖 just be careful with the perfume on the card inside the glasses case because the perfume can have quite a few abrasive oils in it and could affect the glasses’ temples or frames or even the glasses’ pouch long term. If the glasses frames are for example a light color like white or rose or beige, the perfume on the card could potentially stain the glasses coating, finish or acetate. 💖💖💖

If I'm really unwell, I can't tolerate smelling perfumes and if I do smell them, then they become associated. I've been putting off a major surgery and cherishing my frags even more because I know I won't be able to smell them for a while. I'm so glad you're okay!

Dacob, I'm glad you are feeling better. To this day I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE with all my being the aroma of pure incense during Mass, I grew up reading and loving ancient Greek and Egyptian mythology, among others and now I´m very curious and I really need to try Encens Mythique. I have never been hospitalized, but I have accompanied my parents in those hard moments at the time, and despite those difficult moments Ialways liked the sterile, and cristal like aroma of an emergency room and hospital rooms, but If I were in that situation of been hospitalized, from my collection I would use something subtle and persistent like Sicily, Blue Jeans, Fleur de Corail, or Eau de Cartier. For me there is no problem because in my mind I only remember about perfumes what they make me feel, and rarely when in my memories they are associated with a moment to remember, they are almost just good moments, my memory always has been a little odd and seems to ignore most of the times bad or troublesome moments, and even people I don´t like much seems to fade away in my memories often, thats why I can easily wear their perfumes as the only good thing they let me, funny, uh? I used to wear Chanel No 19 lightly in medical situations. Now I wear Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 for blood work, xrays, and Dr. visits. It makes me feel clean and doesn't draw attention. Hope all is well! You look mahvalous!

So,interesting… I also have just been wearing this in hospital settings recently - it’s clean, uplifting to me… but doesn’t hang around the whole time to me - I just catch a whiff and it makes me feel grounded, human, for a second - and it doesn’t feel super unique to make me “remember” any specific situations

Ecens Mythic in the original in the clear and gold glass bottle was my favorite. I don’t love the new version as much. I Miss the old version. It was magic.

Thank you for sharing these with us!❤I was in the hospital years ago giving birth to my son, and had high blood pressure so they had to keep us for an extra couple of days to make sure it went down. At the same time, my mother was away in Hawaii because my grandmother had just passed away, so I was lonely and missing them (in California). There was a nurse who reminded me of my mother there, though, and she was incredibly sweet and kind to me. She wore a beautiful scent, and when I asked her what it was, she said "Oh, it's just a lotion from Victoria's Secret - some floral bouquet!" After I left the hospital, I was on a mission to find that comforting scent - it turned out to be "Rapture" from Victoria's Secret! It's a very 90s perfume - a big in-your-face floral and amber bomb - but I've always loved it because it reminds me of that wonderful lady and the first few days with my baby boy! ❤

Did you have any naughty nurses who wore anything unbearable?? I had a nurse she had on juicy couture juicy and I literally had to ask for a diff nurse ha 😅I felt horrible but it was way too much what she put on! I had a lot of nurses I was there 13 days most were lovely and fresh! I personally wore my loccitane lemon verbena i just wanted light fresh clean! And a light lavender lotion. And I too used lavender green tea wipes ha! And you know me when I was home ? I was wearing Poison and Linterdit rouge! I’m so glad you’re ok!! I was truly worried!! Great list Dacob!! 💕

No perfumes for me. My first hospital stay, all I wanted was Palmers Cocoa Butter. My skin felt so ick while there, and my feet. But I couldn't even brush my hair. Or move because it set off the IV pump beeper! It wasn't pretty!😵😵‍💫 If I could breathe cocoa butter, I would always be happy. Maybe because it comes from the cacao bean, cacao nibs...chocolate. 😊

I love perfumed deodorant, but they’re not antiperspirant, so they just don’t cut it. Anyone have tips?

Wearing a nice light fragrance and wearing your own clothes probably helped you get better faster. If I had to go to hospital I’d take Green Tea and Lazy Sunday Morning.

I do too but sometimes we have no choice in case the bad situation comes suddenly.

When I was in a hospital my mom would visit me and she would wear Miss Dior Cherie 2005 ❤ it is a very dear pefume. She would also layer it with Sultan by Al Haramain which is also a strong strawberry. My nurse wore Hugo Boss Orange edp which smelt so comforting and warm like creme brulee when she would wake me up at 6am 😊

When i think hospital fragrances i think Gucci absolute and baccarat rouge 540 😂

When I worked in a hospital in a cancer treatment unit we could not wear perfume because they somehow make patienrs nauseated.

Of course. Chemotherapy allegedly damages the body strongly and also the taste buds, as well as the sense of smell. Chemo is very tough on the body. It debilitates and can cause major nausea.

Thought that fragrances are not allowed at all at the med facilities. Regulation.

I hope these perfumes don't remind you too much of being in hospital

Much as I love perfume... but wearing perfumes in hospitals is a faux-pas. People have allergies and have breathing difficulties. You have to share space with them. The hospital is the one place people should be a place free of health threats.... If you're going to bring perfume, maybe enjoy them in a personal way where you just smell from the bottle without having to spray and expose others to it. Its good of you to be considerate of the other patients!
