These are both excellent for cutting nice evenly flush ends on truck airline tubing , air hoses , and wireless braided diesel fuel hose . Knipex also manufacturers these cutters . You are correct on getting by with a utility but these make the cut quickly and flawlessly .

I love my Milwaukee flip utility knife, I've had mine for around a decade and it still works so flawlessly. That said, yeah, definitely prefer hose cutters to trying to roll a utility blade through a thick rubber hose haha

Was oddly enough wondering if I should use a razor blade or buy a set of these. Thank you for the insight

Does the real pointy one work better than the flat one for, let's say, 0.5" ID 3/4 OD "soft" rubber/epdm/norprene hosing/tubing? I was told the pointy one is designed for soft tubing as the 90 degree pointed blade won't bend and pinch the tubing as much as the flat or less pointed cutters made more for hard/PVC tubing. Having said that, in your video, it seems the pointed cutter (3:23) squished the tubing just as much as the flat cutter (2:57)...

The pointed one works a little better if the tubing is very reinforced (like with those little threads embedded in the walls like shown toward the end) - the steeper cutting angle slices through those fibers a little better, instead of having pinch/crush them against the flat anvil of the other style cutter or, if more heavily reinforced, having to "chew" through them. The two hoses I showed here weren't very heavily reinforced, so it didn't make a huge difference. Regardless, if the tubing is soft, it's going to squish. These cutters aren't, like, scalpel-sharp.
