It doesn't matter if you ride or show reining horses, cutting horses, reined cow horses, ranch sorting horses or ranch versatility horses... I think you could use this "horse training for the stop" video to your advantage. Even if you don't train your own horses and have a professional horse trainer do it, It's still good to know how training for the stop is done. Especially, how to ride and sit the stop.
I hope I made it clear how important it is to be riding a western saddle which is designed right. A reining or cutting saddle that will help you ride in balance and sit the sliding stop or the hard hindquarter stop.
Be sure to watch my 3-part "saddle fitting" video series. It will teach you how to choose a good saddle that fits you, fits your horse and fits your style of riding.
If you have any questions about saddle fit or saddle design, feel free to give me a call.

Hi, I am just learning how to do sliding stops and I’m riding this horse that stops really well but I always get pounded into the pommel or I get launched out of the seat. I’ve been trying to put all my weight in my stirrups but I can never sit it. Do you think my weight could be part of the problem (100lbs)? If not what can I do to sit the stop better?

Hi Kirra, it's one of two things... either your horse is stopping on his front end or you saddle isn't designed to allow you to sit the stop. Go to GoodSaddles.com
