    I do like how the jockeys who were okay out of the accident stayed near the horses and the emergency people and trainers remained calm keeping the horses calm

    division table in the first acceent was my horse, there legs are not tied together. They are pacers and they wear hobbles to help them stay on gate. free legged pacers are a rare site because if they do not have hobbles on they run when they have to go faster. hobbes only keep them on gate and are sized according to how long the horses gate is. they do not hider them in any way just keep them on the pace.

    Horrifying and accurate. I was a Harness track outrider for 20 years, and amazingly enough, the majority of these horses DO get up and walk away w/ minor injuries, as hard as it is to believe. But, nevertheless, I grew to hate it and am glad to be mostly out of the business. Wonderful, wonderful, animals, these Standardbreds.

    I use to drive many years ago and its rare that accidents happen. I can assure you horses are never abused. If they are the track vets will report any kind of abuse and the stable would either be fined or suspended or both. I know some of those horses had to be put down....its happens. Its hard to avoid accidents because you really cannot see directly in front of horse. It also could happen running through the open field.

    To people who don't understand the sport it can appear fixed. You need to pull back on your horse during a race for many reasons. One reason is that you have to ration out the mile or you will lose big time. If you let your horse go as fast as it can it will certainly be out in front for a while, but will run out of steam before the mile is up and fall to last. Another reason to hold your horse back is to prevent a speed-break. That is when your horse gets ahead of itself and breaks stride.

    Yes, I know. Nothing bad about harness racing. My point was just that the harness it self can mean more complications to a fallen horse. Thoroughbreds get banged up, but they aren't attached to harnesses that can tangle the horses when they fall.

    i'm all for horse sports (i own an eventer) but i've never been a fan of pacing/trotting just because of the straps on their legs. make's it so much easier for them to fall *shudder* scares the heck out of me watching a race. I always hold my breath until they're all safely under the wire. hope that the horses and jocks were alright!

    @222frankel I love animals too, and my favourite animal is the horse.I work in a racing stable and I`m sure that I love these animals as much as you do.Accidents can happen in every sport and it`s very sad when these dramatic accidents happen.I rode for the first time when I was two years old and have ever since lived for these animals.Please don`t judge everybody just because you find some cruel people out in the world.Most of us treat our horses well.

    @MsDancegenie I personally worked with harness racers that a friend owns. They take good care of their horses and, yes, they push them to give their best but the horses LOVE it. They love to go out on the track and just get to run. They sale retired racers to be casual riding horses. They simply can't afford to keep horses who preform poorly. Just because SOME owners are bad and only in it for profit doesn't mean all of them are. Yes, there are dangers but all sports involve risks.

    The horses immeadiatelty get up because one, they don't know WHAT the hell just happened. Two, if a horse breaks its two front legs, it's done. It's usually put down. And three, they're trying to not get trampled by the other horses.

  • @CatzKr

    The horses are less likely to have issues from harness racing then they do with regular racing Throughbreds have skinny legs that often break Standardbreds are very durable horses and always have at least 2 hooves touching the ground which makes it less dangerous to the horse. I own a Harness Racer and yes there are accidents but accidents happen no matter what sport you do or what happens in life!

    Its not the percentage of falls...its the speed at which the horses are travelling at. You don't grasp the concept. Jump racing involves lower speeds. Lower speeds allow following horses to move out of the way.

  • @bgardiner2000

    @Colleen4207 That's not correct. If you ever see standard-bred foals in the paddock many of them pace from the time they get up. They do indeed pace from birth. When they are "gaited" the pace is reinforced with hobbles to make them feel more comfortable doing it at speed.

    @Colleen4207 um just to tell you, that kind of bred do trot like that from birth. we bred them. they are bred to spred their hindlegs so they can pass on the outside of the frontlegs, this is how they can trot so fast. and yes they do this from birth. i've seen seen foals 1 or two days old do it. it is natural to them. i'm not trying to put you down or anything, it's your right to have your own opinion. just wanted you to know that it's natural to them

    I race Quarter Horses and there are more accidents out there than this but accidentsw happen the horses WANT to run and if you know how a horse actually thinks then you know that if they dont want to run they will fake they are hurt. My horses do it all the time and we dont take chances when they do that even if nothing is really wrong. Basically this is saying that we shouldnt drive cars because accidents happen. Equestrian sports are dangerous but people just have to get used to its not abuse.

    If you think americans are crap at english style riding then thats up to you. The English are generally quite good at it! But that has nothing to do with the fact that this kind of racing is very dangerous. If 1 horse falls, anything behind it also falls..same in flat racing. In jump racing the horses stand a better chance of getting themselves out of the way.

  • @kaeso100
    @kaeso10015 жыл бұрын

    Pretty sure they dont use standardbreds as event horses but yes generally people import stock from other countries for breeding purposes. And I merely stated the english have many high calibre event horses amongst other types in response to you stating they mostly have push putton ponies! But if you ship so many of your 'real' horses over to the U.K then obviously they have had the pleasure of seeing what a real horse actually looks like compared to the pretend ones they are used to!

The more inhumane thing is when people like you try to stop animals doing what they love, dogs want to run around a park so you put a halty on them, horses want to gallop and jump and instead they are confined to fields. how would you feel not being able to go outside your house and garden and do what ever your favourite activity is?

    @DPSVDV I dont see how my comment makes me a dumb ass. I know a trotter trainer, he's a very close family friend and I'm allowed to not like a sport if I dont want to. The straps in my opinion just make it harder for a horse to recover if they fall. I'm not saying they hurt the horse or anything. just saying if a horse trips the straps would make it harder to keep its feet. I'm not saying to ban it or stop it for christs sake so just take a chill pill.

    All horse and dog racing is cruel and very dangerous, these horses just break down because they are pushed over their limits. Dog racing is just as bad, the conditions in which they are kept is disgraceful. Kept in small cages until the next race.All these animals are used like machines to get the fastest times possible. Some race horses are put to the test when they are about 1.5 to 2yrs of age! They are pushed and pushed, some just break down and end up being destroyed or sent to slaughter.

  • @swiftnshift

    Not every trainer is like that, some actually want to be the fastest. Just like showjumpers want to jump the highest, dressage riders want the most eligant, cross country riders want the ideal time. Every horse sport is pointless, every horse sport is bad to horses. jumping hurts their legs, dressage hurts their backs.

    If you got in an accident with your horse in a trailer, it could be horrible for your horse. I have seen horses get his their legs caught in fences, stalls, and corral pannels. I watched a horse panic and run through a fence and drive a board into his chest and out his shoulder. Is that abuse? So we should never put our horses in trailers, stalls, pastures, or corrals, because accidents happen? You are placing a very fuzzy line between tragic accidents and abuse.

  • @ojkrazer
    @ojkrazer16 жыл бұрын

    Its not horse abuse... how can it be that when the horses likes to race? It was an accident. it happens but not as often as people may think. If a horse dont like racing then it is horse abuse, but then again you cant get a horse to race if they dont want to...
