    I gave your 'feathers' a try last week. Absolutely slayed the mackies and out-fished every other type of feather/sabiki/hokai on the boat. Thanks Troj!

    Nice, I tried them against a friend using hokai years ago which we rated very highly. On that trip the red an blacks fished about 3 to 1 but the test was only short as the friend switched to lures I gave him :)

    I’m going to give your patterns a try this summer where I live on the north east coast near Sunderland. But to be honest when the mackerel are in you can’t fail. My wife will kill me if I bring another mackerel home this year, but my dogs absolutely love them, my wife can’t stand the smell of them!🤔😂👍

    Another great episode Team Troy. Be interesting to see a cook up with the Horse Mackerel. Nice bucket of Mackerel, a few Pollock, and a lovely Bass. Well done Team. Unfortunately the aforementioned KZread catchup is on hold, both of us seem to have imported a nasty strain of Covid from France, and we are not well at all. Darned annoying after avoiding it through all the lockdowns before. Stay safe & well both of you. 🎣🎣👍👍

    Yeah Troj the horse mackerel are good to eat, they call them Jack Mackerel in New Zealand, I smoke them sometimes or fry them whole, most people use them as bait or throw them back but surprisingly a lot of what people turn their nose up at are really good eating.

    I tried them only once a few years back and found them very boney and not much taste compared to mackerel. I guess I can try again, maybe smoke a few. Is there any particular flavouring people use on horse mackerel or is frying the best way to cook them.

  • @Trojwaterman

    @Trojwaterman

    Yes they do the ones at 150ft the eyes literally burst out . Also in not so deep water if you bring them up to fast. The trick is to get them back instantly then one good kick they can get back down. Get one that's just a bit to long getting the hook out and its over for that fish.

    Hi Troj. I particularly like your content because in North Norfolk, where I live, the local fishing economy is very similar. But here’s my question: is yours a truly viable business? I hope the answer is ‘yes’. But I’d be fascinated to know how!

    For me to fish in say 50 - 100m deep or 164 feet to 328 feet deep I'd have to travel 30 - 39 km's out from shore but while the winds are only 14 - 28 knots the swell at 14 knots wind is around 4.8m with peak to peak every 15 seconds, at other times it's every 9 seconds in higher wind. Kind of dangerous in a tiny boat I would think.

    @@Trojwaterman Yeah here is a very slow progression of depth until you go about 40 - 65 km's or 25 miles - 40 miles before you get into deep water between 100m - 1000m if you want to get pink snapper or any larger fish of 5 kg - 20 kg. There is another place up north about 400 km's up that is 80 km's off the coast before getting out where the waves are slight & the depth is over 100m but it's too far for me to travel sailing.

    Trying them at the moment different ways. Down the Mediterranean way some people go mad for them. As for bones after filleting one seem the same as mackerel and the outer spines on the tail just come off if you skin them. I will be doing a cook up on them soon.
