I have a notebook in my shop that has EVERYTHING that has happened with my horses. Every vet visit, treatment, vaccination, wormer, hoof trim, when taken off pasture or put on pasture (for grass founder purposes early in the spring or late in the fall, when I bought hay/where and who it came from, price, when I started feeding hay..... Literally everything involving a horse is in that book. My farrier, vet(s) and father in law are impressed with the records I keep. If it happened it is in the book, if I want to know when a particular oddity started, it is in the book.

There is a trick. Get an empty cleaned out syringe. Put apple sauce in it. The horse will soon realize that the syringe equals a very pleasurable thing. Then come deworming day, have two syringes. One with apple sauce. One with the dewormer. You get the picture.

Hi Dwayne, Another good video that helps horses by enlightening their charges especially as regards to the different types of wormers active ingredients.I personally do a worm count via a lab that specialises in such, this helps me target certain types of worm and the stage of their life cycle to decide which wormer would be best to use, vets do the same. I also companion graze our horses with other grazing species, alternate the paddocks throughout the year, and, shut the the wormed animals up for 48hrs in stable to collect their droppings, this has helped me no end keep my worm burden right down, i also use a weight tape if not too sure especially for youngsters, i like you do all the horses together plus any other animals that share the field with, and always worm when the Moon is waning, thats what i do and it works for my guys. Thanks for your video i really like the way you are around horses.

I've been worming horses for 40 years now. I've tried pretty much all the available wormers until this spring when I tried the Farnam ivermectin brand. Simply put, I was astounded at the job this product did, pretty much across the board. Also the particular one I acquired was apple flavored, and once you got it CLOSE to their nostrils, the horses interest really picked up. Once it brushed their lips, it almost became a job trying to keep em from trying to ingest the entire plastic 'hypo' to get at the wormer inside! Here's the wild part, ALL of these horses were Mustangs and as far as I know, had NEVER tasted an apple before. Needless to say this wormer is now number 1 in my rotation. Oh, one last comment, in MY neck of the woods, (south central US.) A dose for a 1200 lb animal was $6.50! Hats off to my local Feed/Tack/Farm Supply store for stocking and recommending this stuff, and to Farnam themselves for what I consider, an excellent product.

Glad you covered not “ bribing” your horse to be caught, wormed etc. where I work have a couple folks who bribe & treat the trail horses to get them to go into watering stalls, stand on rack line with guests on them, put bits in their mouths etc. have another couple who feel the need to rough handle the horses to accomplish the same things. Two opposite ends of the spectrum. I prefer to teach the horses what to do & treat them like the professionals they are.
