My dad had a ceremony to give my brother a name. It wasn't chosen by dad. My grandparents weren't alive then. I guess every tribe is different

All of the participants are incredible. I wish the ancestral dances and ceremonies didn’t come down to competitions. They are are so beautifully unique in their own right in each of the tribes. 🫶💓🫶

Just beautiful! I have never seen nor was aware of the Horse Dance. I feel deeply moved to learn more about the horse traditions. There was a cool talk on NativeCalling on Horses in the Americas. THANK YOU for the gift to see all the tribes together dancing strong! The drums really made me feel some how; ) Blessings to all and our Mother Earth. Safe journeys and good road songs!

All throughout the world and history, a gathering of tribes, families was a time of trading ideas, measuring the execution of traditions, rituals, dress with each tribe expressing it's take on the shared culture. Dancers would compete for the attention of the opposite sex; riders would compete for bragging rights....prizes were won, bets were made.....since the dawn of man...all over the world. The Scots competed in contests of strength, sword dancing and the dances on shields. Aztecs had ritual ball games, pitting warriors of different tribes against each other....losers were enslaved or sacrificed. It's about being human.

From my understanding the original dance comes from a Lakota family and the first horse dancer was mu Robert's since then they been popping up credit to him and his families old ways.

This is the first time I've ever seen this. I'm from Oklahoma. Funny thing, but the first time I ever saw chicken dance was at gathering 2006. It's popular in Oklahoma now. They used to mix the chicken dancers with the grass dancers but since there are so many they usually get their own catagory now. Horse dance looks awesome. I can tell it's from up north.

I use to hear stories about my great-grandpa when he use to have to horse dances but with actual horses that would come running and start trotting around in the arbor when they began to sing. He was the last the have those around here before some farmers moved closed by and fenced off the area where the horses would come running.

It was great to see Lakotah horse dancers. But this is why I have the username. My son lives with his dad. I gave him the middle name ‘Lakotah’ so he will not forget he has Native Blood. Was I wrong for that? Was I wrong for giving him a name after a tribe?

Не мисля, че парите са важното. Ако бяха важни за индианците нямаше след битката при Литъл биг хорн да бъдат намерени разхвърляни, а не обратни. Разбира се времената са други, но индианците са си индианци... Хора от друго измерение... На всемира.
