Horse Bedding Comparison

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

In this video I trial some different bedding types to compare them with a the aim of finding the most suitable for efficient use in a commercial setting. For this it is focussed on a semi deep litter system but I also look at all the merits of the various bedding types for use with all systems.
The results are based on a points scale but I also decide which are my own personal favourites based on my preferences of comfort and looks.
This is a comprehensive horse bedding comparison of Hemp, Rape straw, Woodchip, Wood Pellets, Straw and Wood shavings.
With 30 years in the professional horse industry and 22 years running my own livery yard I hope you gain from some of my experience but bear in mind you will have your own preferences and my needs to get the job done don't necessarily match your requirements.
I hope you enjoy watching this video

Wow! great comparisons thank you! I have been struggling with figuring out my products to use. I was just using shavings but there is a lot of waste then I went to sawdust it's great for minimal waste and soaks extremely well. so now I'm trying a base of sawdust and sprinkled with water to lay it down then a top dressing of shavings.

You mentioned in the presentation towards the end, you had previously used Cardboard? I have a supply or shredded cardboard I am keen to try that wondered why you hadn’t included it in this test? Or is it availability or cost or just the fact that you didn’t get on with it All various reasons? Before I go down that route, could you give me your feedback on Cardboard which is shredded down to centimetre squares and soft and fluffy what I have seen. Many thanks in anticipation of your objective reply.
