More About "Laboratory Conditions":
At a hospital, late one night, a physician discovers that one of her patients is missing, and likely has passed away, as he was not expected to survive the night. The physician tracks the body to a nearby medical school, where students are in the midst of an illicit experiment. The physician faces an ethical dilemma that puts her clinical judgment up against the amoral ambition of the chair of the graduate school of neuroscience. Even if the doctor can save her patient, what about the next one? And the one after that? At what point should human compassion outweigh research science and “the need to know”?

    People are commenting that they'd watch this if it were a longer movie. I would too. But I like the fact that there's no wasted time in this. Just a solid story in a very short time.

    Making it longer would only drag out the events leading up to the point where this short film takes place, perhaps even beyond. I think the ending is the perfect point to end, opening the chamber would turn the story into a full blown horror movie.

    They would have big names if this was the 90’s. But the fact is that for older women, parts are few and far between. I mean hell, they even felt like they had to cast someone young for “Napoleon” to play his wife, when in reality the real Josephine was a decade older than him. So it’s not really much of a mystery.

    I think the docter could always see the dead. However usually they move on quickly, to soon for her to see them. The girl that was singing, you could see her carrying a baby in the box. But she was also outside the box. I think that was her daughter who was pregnant when she died. That thing they trapped was in my opinion satan trying to get the man his soul before god could. When it was stuck i think it transformed into the docters daughter(the girl that was singing) to trick the docter in to letting it out so it could take more souls. I do think the other docter who wanted to go inside didn’t die as i think that demonic creature can only take the souls of the dead.

It's normally a bit frustrating to read comments from people who can't just enjoy what there is without having to have it all laid out for them. Wow what an ending. If you're going to do a cliff hanger then this is how you do it. This type of short makes you want to see more big name actors and actresses doing a short film. The quality with this one was top notch and the story was compelling. The soul has always been linked to faith and this one explores the idea of finding scientific proof. I love that the story did not shy away from the obvious ethics involved. The special effects looked fantastic and the malevolent/evil entity was legit terrifying. Driver and Tormei were excellent and surrounded by a strong supporting cast. Great work to all involved from writer, director, cast and crew. This was a great watch and a high recommend. Peace.

And how Marisa Tomei's character and the other guy were in on the whole thing. Minnie Driver, top-notch performance. All the acting was great, and Paolo Costanza played his role on point as--how is it this guy was not more well known after he nearly stole the show in 40 Days And 40 Nights? What I love about this is your short films are so well done they could be full length movies. In my opinion that also just shows how unnecessary it is for all stories to be an hour and a half long. If this was a movie we'd find out all about the doctor, the man, each of the supporting characters, they'd stretch out her hunt for the body. And finally, in the final 5-10 minutes of runtime they'd maybe show us what happened when they opened the box.

  • @BrownsdragonStudios

    @BrownsdragonStudios

    Yeah, just imagine if people started treating every minute in a movie as valuable as a short film, I bet these movies would feel so much more substantive. I think it also shows that the "rules" of traditional storytelling aren't meant to be followed strictly. In this short, I didn't need a long intro (or exposition whatsoever) to the doctor protagonist because I learned a lot about her through the actions she took and the words she choose to say.
