Loved this film as a kid, saw it on a late night showing on TV (can't remember if it was on BBC or ITV). Great concise rejigging of the original Thing plot, as you point out. The way the victims die with the bleeding and white eyes was really chilling back then. I hope they never remake it with a CGI monster. Was a must buy on DVD about ten years ago.

Just seen this gem of a movie today. Yet another classic that I have been aware of for years but never got around to watching. I rectified that today and its great. It had me hooked throughout.

great blast from the past to kick off train month. Little known is the fact that Lee and Cushing were very good friends and Lee went on record to say that he missed him very much. It was amazing to see Cushing again post mortem in Rogue One. I miss these two gentleman very much! Amazing Actors!

Mate, have you reviewed Terror Train? I could have sworn you did and wanted to re-watch the video before I put my thoughts up. Maybe I'm getting in a muddle because Jamie Lee features in a lot of your best of the 80s videos, understandably :)

One of my all-time favourites! Absolutely wonderful film. I reeatched it again recently, and I appreciate it even more now. Many of the Hammer (and non-Hammer films of the era) have a nostalgia value but really don't hold up IMHO. Horror Express has aged incredibly well. As you say, it's the best film Hammer never made. I'm not sure they ever produced a film that comes close to this tbh. Anyway, great review, Andrew.

Let's see......I can't pick put a fave part in this because there are so many but WAIT! The part where they call Cushing and Lee monsters and Cushing says "Monsters,we're not monsters,we're British!" lmao LOVE IT! Always good to go back and watch this from time to time. Horror hosts seem to use it a lot though so sometimes you get burnt out. Thanks for the review :)

Love this one! My intro was a trailer on a movie-monsters vhs in a Godzilla box set I had as a kid, maybe like age 4 or 5. The trailer spooked the hell out of me with all those eyes! Then many years later in my late teens I surprisingly found a dvd in my local dollar store. It was truly a horrible transfer, like basically vhs quality but that kind of added to the experience. Seeing it in HD really blows my mind and is still kinda disorienting. So y’all probably know about this but for real, one of the sweetest things I’ve ever heard in my friggin life involves this film and the two leads; when Peter Cushing’s wife died the year prior to this movie, he was so distraught and grief-stricken that he was ready to throw in the towel on acting altogether for a long time after. But his good friend Christopher Lee helped him get motivated again and co-star in this film, which I believe was the first film Cushing did after the tragedy. Apparently poor Peter had night terrors, was terribly depressed and was afraid to be alone at this point in his life, so Christopher Lee would hang out with him and even slept in the same bed just so his friend wouldn’t be alone. And in turn while Peter never would totally get over it, he would continue to act for decades after because his friend was there to help him out & get him back in the saddle again. Those two men were incredible 🖤

Saw this when the local cinema did a re-showing and went to see it with a freind expecting a chuckle at some very dated steriotypes. I was actually surprised to see a really solid kung fu film with the beginning and ending of a hammer film pasted into it. All worth it to hear Cushing say the word 'Expedition' mind.
