I should have said - off camera, whilst the bull was still in the crush the farmer administered strong pain killers and anti inflammatory drugs to help the bull with his foot - those drugs would also help massively with his other issue

Maybe he's one of those bulls who has a weird reaction to pain killers. Maybe that's why he was having trouble standing? If he's still on them, he may just be having happy dreams and doesn't want to walk around. As you can tell, I'm trying to look on the bright side!

I don’t know what kind of painkillers the bull was given, but some can cause drowsiness as well as pain relief. Perhaps there’s a bit of that going on.

I was horrified to see the condition of the bulls foot but then relieved to know you were the one the farmer called. The care you show towards all the animals you trim is awesome. This bull has a long road to go before his hoof is healed and the trouble he had for being in the crush so long showed all of us the reason you work so quickly. Thank you for going back to check on him so often, it only proves how much you care about all the animals entrusted to you.

As my grandmother taught me: Some days are diamond, some days are stone. We look for the memories in diamond days and look for the lessons in stone days. Sometimes a day is both, and that's okay. I don't comment on videos much but you have such genuine care for these animals that I had to share, for whatever it's worth, this little grain of wisdom that's helped me.

In my untrained eyes, he went from not even wanting to touch the ground with that one foot to standing on all four feet. That's a great improvement.

I am glad the farmer despite being organic, was very quick to run to the vet so quickly and get what the bull needed. Thanks for showing us all the details as it gives us a full scope of cattle care. The good and the bad.

What organic farmers are against is the routine spiking of food with antibiotics, which is what large scale farms do. They give it whether or not the animal actually needs it. farmers like this guy have no problem getting the help they need for animals when they get sick though.

Antibiotics are used in organic as for treatment. The “no antibiotics” thing is because farmers will just feed antibiotics to livestock to make them grow bigger. But for medical treatment it’s fine.

I never knew that leaving a cow in a crush for 10 min would do that now I understand why you do your job right but ALWAYS try to get them out quick. Love the transparency Graeme and how u go out of ur way for the betterment of the cow/bulls🐃🐂❤️❤️🐂🐃

@11:30 He says the bull was in the crush for about 10min. The real issue isn't leaving a cow in the crush but that the bull was pushing and pinching it's nerve against the crush trying to get away.

@@AlphaNxOmega also I believe that’s why there are the 2 of them working on the animal at the same time. 1 person in front working on the hooves up there, while the other fellow is working in the back. It decreases the time the the bovine is in the machine.

I love how much you really care about these animals. The fact that it hurts you when they are in pain says so much. Hoping the big guy recovers quickly ❤

The look he gave you, in that little field, when you went back to check on him, was like, "If I could run, you'd be a dead man." I've watched several of your videos, and you seem to genuinely care about these animals, and that's all that matters.

I struggle with depression and anxiety, I was doing OK with my anxiety, my main anxiety issue was going out, I was going out into my local town center once a week, I had got to that point on my own as the mental health services were rubbish and I felt it was pointless having their "help", and then we went into lockdown and I said a few times that lockdown was basically my life! But when we could go out again, I was back at square 1, I didn't want to leave the house, and going out alone, that was a huge no-no! But, using the same method I used before, I'm now going into town every 2 weeks, which I have only just started doing this week! And I hate to admit it, but I went with my Son and not on my own, but I left the house and I feel that that is the more important part!

Michael Your not alone. Literal sunshine and fresh air are 2 major important medicines that you can take. Not sure about civil in your area..but mountain passes helped me. Be safe be well I'm pulling4 u.

We had black Angus cattle when I was a kid, and the bulls were always really friendly. Like scary friendly-at 7 years old when a 2,500 lab animal takes an interest in you and follows you around the pasture like a dog, it can be a bit frightening.

So cute until they kill you. Bulls are one of the most dangerous things on a farm, statistically. That's why many farms breed via AI.

I dairy farmed with my dad and his brother,for 25 years, now I’m disabled, but that still doesn’t explain why your channel is so fascinating to me. I absolutely love your videos and your sense of humor. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a person work so hard for your family.

This is why I love your videos. They always feel honest. Not every day is a good day, but your work is helping animals, and that is why every day still is a good day in some way. You can't save them all, and because the bull had been such trouble before, it was common sense to leave him in the crush while waiting. This time it went wrong, the other twohundred times it has been fine.

Remember that you aren’t a vet and you have stated yourself many times, there is only so much you are able to do for them. I have watched enough of your videos to know you care deeply about each cow, bull, heck even that calf you had to work on. You do the best you can, that is all anyone can ask

You can see in your eyes the compassion for the bull! What you do is such a labor of love! I'm so glad that you return to check on him!

I’ve seen several of your videos and already had a huge respect for what you’ve been doing to help these creatures out. Your response and words at the end just added a whole new level of respect and admiration. I wish more people learned from things with the grace you showed.

Oh Graeme, that poor bull. 😢 I hope he improves enough to resume his duties!! And he earned the right to his attitude. If my foot was like that I'd have an attitude too! Thanks for sharing the good as well as the bad. It's brave of you. Ignore any haters and don't let them bring you down.

I remember a few months ago, replying to a comment from someone who had a background in veterinary nursing, but not in farming. They gave it all a good song and dance about cleaning the cows' feet, keeping things sterile. Myself and others tried to tell them it was impossible and impractical in a farm setting; both because of a cow's general lack of cleanliness and also because the aim was to get them out of the crush as fast as possible. But they weren't really having it. As far as they were concerned, when they were immobilised in the crush, you could take the time to clean off the cows' feet before you start work. I hope that person has watched this video. Because THIS is what we were trying to tell her at the time. Good on you, Graeme. There are a lot of people nowadays that get very offended by reality. You never want it to happen, but unforeseen circumstances and - heaven forbid - accidents do happen. I respect you a hell of a lot more than I already did anyway for being brave enough to show us the bad, as well as the good. It makes things that much more real and relatable. Fingers crossed this mardy moo ends up feeling better. :)

This has the same energy as a yt vid of a woman who had a dog with a large bump of fluid. The woman was a rn or nurse practitioner. So instead of taking it to a vet, She took a syringe to suck out the liquid but when she emptied the contents, she would stick the dog with the same needle about three times before changing it.

@@katara_grayson I’ve seen that video. The dog had been to a vert and was okay with her treating the dog by removing the fluid herself . So should she have used a needle Everytime? I don’t know. I think a much larger syringe would have been better she wouldn’t have had to stick the dog so many times.

What you’re doing is pure, honest, difficult work and you deserve all of the rewards that come from it.

Grew up with horses and an old corrective hot shower that was 92 to my 13 years. He shoed horses in the Calvary. But I absolutely can watch this all day! Dairy was not on our farm so I never realized how much work. Goes into keeping a sound cow or bull besides genetics. You guys are Awesome!! Thx

I never knew there was such a thing as hoof trimming (city kid here) I'm 72 years old and am impressed with your genuine concern for each animal. Cows are part of our cycle of life. I was born and spent 26 years of my life in a poor part of south London on a council estate- the equivalent of the ‘projects’ I guess - I spent 16 of those years working on various farms and horse barns, foraging, doing bushcraft etc

I have nothing to do with farming. I came across your videos by accident. And I’m a vegan which makes this slightly more odd. But. You treat these animals with respect and kindness. You try to make them healthy and have a good life. You do so much more then I think you realise. And despite not being the dairy and cattle industries biggest supporter I’m so glad these animals have you. Thank you for sharing the ups and the downs of your work. I watch all your videos because I can relate since I grew up on my 1907 family farm and I now own a fabulous cutting horse here in Central Oklahoma, United States of America. Keep giving great cow pedicures.

This was rough to watch, but I’m so glad that you shared it. I’ve heard you talk about wanting them in and out of the crush as quickly as possible before, and this really helps solidify why that is so important.

Having grown-up with livestock, sometimes this is the harsh reality and I commend Graham for his honesty

I wouldn't feel too horrible. No one here would possibly know that if a bull was in a crush too long that this would happen unless they themselves are farmers or farm veterinarians. You did more good by showing us the harsh reality than you know. Thank you for being honest with us.

Sharing the bad with the good makes sense, it adds to your authenticity. You are not doing a show, you are working and caring for animals. We love you for it, and your concern for a lame bull, with a horrific injury, is so amazing! Thank you for sharing, I really enjoy watching what you do. Some of us have been around live stock, I worked at the state fair and in several stables growing up so its a flash back to a past. You are much kinder then many I saw, when I had a horse I was very particular about who my Farrier was!

You are so endearing! The way you care for all the cows and bulls (even the ones with attitude) warms my little heart. I'm so glad I found you on Tiktok because now I settle down after work and watch these videos to chill to! Keep doing what you're doing. You're educating people who are "city girls and boys" into the realities of farming and cattle and its so informative!!

Your compassion is endearing and serves to remind us the harsh truth of life. It is necessary to be reminded sometimes that we are stewards of animals, not to have dominion over them but to hold their care as important as our own. We do what we can with what we have. ❤

@@Fabsi87 No, in fact I eat a high meat diet (mostly fish and poultry). Because that's what my body needs, I can't get very much energy from plants. We all have different ways of getting nutrition, no diet can work for everyone. People need to stop moralizing about what they eat and just listen to their bodies.

I wondered if he hadn’t already overstrained the front left by bearing more weight on it to keep his injured hind right off the ground. He has a lot of muscle/weight over his shoulders, so leaning away from the pain for months may have been more than his tendons/ligaments could handle when stepping down after being overlong in the crush. All my hopes and well wishes that he recovers. He’s a very handsome fellow, and crankiness is understandable.

I just wanted to say it’s so nice of you to go back and check on the bulls when something goes wrong your Awsome Gram!!!!

It’s heartbreaking to see such a big, strong animal literally brought to his knees in pain. 💔 Even though it wasn’t your fault, I can only imagine how awful you must have felt. It’s good that you didn’t edit that out because it’s a risk you take every day and the reality is that some days just go well.

I’m sorry this happened to you. It was a perfect storm. The trauma to the hoof, the resulting infection, the pain killers and sedative along with the length of the time in the crush. This is not a failure by far. He was standing in the sun in the end and you did make a difference. I love watching for the cows, they are my favorite animal. You are so patient, kind ,and caring. I like to see the good and the bad. It makes the transformation more rewarding. Keep doing what you’re doing and I’m sure you know , we’ll keep watching.

Poor Graham was really caught between a rock and a hard place, wasn't he? He knew it was less than ideal to keep the bull in the crush that long, but if he'd let him out there would have been stress and pain involved in getting the drugs into him.

Graham don’t beat yourself to a bloody pulp with the fact this bull got severe pins and needles brother. You did all you could to get him in and out of the crush as fast as possible. This is one of the worst injuries we’ve seen so far on the channel. These cows and this bull are very lucky to have someone who cares so much about them. You’re a good trimmer and a caring man. Thus proven by the fact you came back to that farm to check on the bull on your day off. So keep fighting the good fight man. You’ve always done more good for these cows than harm. Keep that in mind.

I never expected a video about hoof care to make me cry. I hope he recovers. It's not your fault tho! I'm glad he got good care from someone who has his utmost best interest at heart.

Was introduced to your channel by my co-worker supervisor who watches your videos regularly. Being raised around farm animals, this resonates with me. Shades of the wonderful James Herriot books. Honesty and showing the good with the bad is part of life and the reality of having animals all round. If the farmer had not been able to catch and bring him in, the suffering would have been much worse for him . Well if I ripped my toenail off by accident, got an infection but still had to walk around on that all week I'd be pissed about life as well; I totally understand that big guy hating on anyone trying to disturb him. Here's a dumb question though: could a vet do anything to "fix" that problem and allow new horn to grow on that claw, eventually allowing full recovery?

There's not much you can do with cattle. Generally, cattle aren't trained like a horse or dog. They are produce and money makers, hardy and sturdy animals, not very smart.

@Bob Stanley, what he said was, being an organic farmer he doesn't have antibiotics on the farm at all times. As he spoke, the farmer was on his way to the vet to get antibiotics for his bull. It appears this farmer knows that antibiotics are there for a reason, but are not to be administered routinely.

@@nanjunkster I never understood not having antibiotics at all times. Even if not administered often, they're often enough necessary that having the stuff on hand for situations like this is necessary. You don't know when an accident will happen, and not having the stuff is precious time wasted. If the farmer would've had it, the bull might not have gotten that injury. Organic farms can do as they please, but don't not have it handy. You never know when you'll need it. Doesn't everyone have a bottle of tylenol/advil handy in their medicine cabinet?

How is the Bull now? I was absolutely devastated for the Bull and of course for you. I literally gasped and covered my mouth for the duration after he stepped out 🥺🫣

By you asking that question tells me you didn't watch until the end. I get it lol i had to forward through some of this one myself. He put in the comments that off camera, the farmer administered strong painkillers and anti inflammatory medicine. Basically the bull went down like he did because of being in the crush so long. It has belly bands that holds the cow or bull up and supports their weight. That's how they're able to raise 2 or more hooves at the same time. The cow/bull tend to get lazy and just let the bands completely support them. Plus this one was trying to get away and was pressing on nerves as they were waiting for the farmer to get back from the vet with his medication. So he was in the crush way longer than he should have been. So basically when he tried to walk out his legs were asleep. Just like us when we sit one way too long and try to get up and it's oh NO. Oh NO this ain't working out too good lol. But he did go back later and check on the bull and he was no longer in the hospital pen. He was in the pasture eating grass with the cows and while not completely healed, Graham said he had made a mass improvement

I appreciate you showing the unhappy bits, it’s much more honest. I grew up with 5,500 heifers assorted goats bulls and ranch horses and mules. We still drove steers to the rail yards for Train transport to market. We sure could have used you and your crush then. I miss those days and have happy memories of them. I moved across the country but we still have some angus cows doing the mowing. I’m super impressed by your professionalism and how much you care about the well being and comfort of these amazing animals.

It’s just heartbreaking when you see an animal struggling. You did everything that you could do. It’s just very stressful when recovery isn’t going the way you had hoped. After having seen Gracie's journey, this is hardly a downer by comparison. Given how stubborn the bull was about being treated (reasonably so), the fact it got treated at all towards recovery certainly gives him more of a fighting chance than he had the day prior. Here's hoping that leg eventually regains its vigor with the rest of him.

I had similar thoughts. Sad thing is, we don’t know this bull by either him name, or number. Somehow an identifier helps, just like knowing the names of persons requesting prayers. It looks like he did get to be outdoors in the sunshine, with a buddy so he wasn’t just alone and in pain. Hope the farmer gets guidance from the veterinarian, too.

@@patpierce4854 well if uk organic rules are anything like the US..he's got little hope on this farm unless he recovers on his own. That's the cruel downside to organic, animals suffer needlessly because they aren't allowed basic treatment like antibiotics, pain relief, steroids and still be organic. They can have all the woo-woo herbs and other shit that dont work though. They can treat and sell into a traditional herd or sell to slaughter after a withdrawal period. So your hippy dippy organic farms can only exist as long as they either are allowed to let animals suffer with treatable illnesses longer than necessary, die preventable deaths or conventional farming takes their cast offs.

​@@MrMarket1987 Unfortunately, they're not wrong, at least for how farming works in the US. Organic farming does mean that the animals cannot have antibiotics - the animal is watched and treated with other treatments, but no actual systemic antibiotics because of the organic label. The second a cow gets any antibiotics, her milk is no longer considered organic and she must be removed to a different herd. In the UK, it works differently - they use antibiotics only as a last resort (which means the animal does suffer more than necessary if you ask me) but the animal is allowed back into the herd after a hold period to ensure the antibiotics are out of their system. In the meantime, her milk needs to be discarded.

I appreciate that you're keeping it real. Especially when these videos are really supposed to be teaching moments. You can't sugar coat every lesson. This is a teaching moment. You handled it with sincerity and tact. Thankyou.

Graeme, I’m really sad that the bull is in such pain - I watch Tom Pemberton’s KZread channel and I remember the unfortunate fate of his Angus bull, Neptune, when he was injured. I hope this bull can recover enough to perform his function as a breeder otherwise he’s no longer earning his keep. I wish the world was all rainbows and unicorns but unfortunately it isn’t. This "little" dude had me in tears. I agree, Eury. I'd love to see an update on this beautiful Angus. This episode made me wish that some empathetic creative person could invent a prosthetic temporary hoof to protect a bull's or cow's damaged foot until the problem is solved. 🥺🥺😢😭😭😭😭

You and the farmer have both tried to help this bull and that's a monumental statement to how much you care for the animals. Thank you for caring and for sharing these cases -- the bull may pull through yet, but if not, he was at least given a solid chance.

Julie, you aren’t alone with getting upset. Seeing the bull be on his knees broke me in two and I started to cry too! I personally wouldn’t be able to leave his side until he stood up but that’s me. Let’s hope his foot heals 💜💜

The toe gets stuck and to take it out of the place it's stuck in, the cow twists the toe and by doing so the hoof capsule releases.. Ir any similar event..

They may not even know what exactly happened. If he caught his foot in something, I'm sure the farmer has checked wherever he might have stepped so none of the others get lame like that. If you think about our own feet, sometimes a wrong step can cause pain and we don't know why. I imagine it's the same. 😁👋🧡

I once worked at a livestock market and a truck backed up to the loading ramp but didn't back up all the way. There was a gap between the truck and the ramp and when the cows unloaded, one of them caught her hoof in that opening and walked right out of her hoof.

Hoof edge getting stuck in the gap of a grate. See those HUGE gaps on the floor? That's where it go stuck. These type of grates are unsafe.

Unfortunately if he can't do his purpose (servicing cows) then he's of no use & just costing money & time. I know this sounds harsh but it is reality. I personally hope he can recover but I won't hold my breath.
