    Also if nothing falls in it when you clean it you can see the unattached lint fly up back on the clothes. I prefer to clean it after for this reason. Not sure if you understand what I mean but it kind of kicks up the loose pieces.

    Just finished cleaning my dryer and decided to check out some videos because I wanted to find out how to get inside the machine from the front. Just this morning I ordered the lint cover for the dryer on Amazon ($8). I got in the habit many moons ago to clean the lint filter about mid cycle so it’s less stressful on the dryer to push the air through the filter. Now, the filter itself IS a pain to remove and clean but worth it. They could have designed a twisting clip instead of a screw. But Speed Queens are the best.

    Mine has the lint cover and it is still terrible. The lint still gets all over the lint trap cover, which then drags all over the clothes. Before I pull any clothes out, I take a used dryer sheet, remove the cover and clear the lint with the dryer sheet. Then I use the dryer sheet to collect the lint out of the actual trap. Only then do I take the clothes out. And I still can't keep the lint off the clothes. I do think if the screening underneath were longer, it would collect more lint and perhaps not overflow. Do you think one could DIY a new lint screen and attach it to the original plastic it's connected to? Anyone have thoughts on that? I love the speed queens otherwise, but the lint situation is enough to make me not ever purchase another one.

  • @rickstid-bits

    @rickstid-bits

    Hi Kate, We've never had that problem. But . . . we never use dryer sheets or fabric softener. They "close-up" the pores of clothes and then the clothes don't "breathe," and I sweat to death in the clothes. We always clean the lint trap before every single use. That works well for us - and we don't have the problem that you wrote about. I hope that helps somehow. Rick

    The problem I'm having with my new Speed Queen dryer DC5003WE is that the lint filter gets clogged up so quickly and heavily (even with the little plastic grid thing you found that already came with mine), that the machine is not able to detect the clothes getting dry during the cycle since there is so little airflow leaving the machine and the temp sensor is downstream of the lint filter. As a result, our machine has been known to do a heated dry for 8 hours (if overnight doing laundry) and you have to turn it off manually. This happens about every 10 loads. Unless there is a different cause other than what I suspect.

  • @rickstid-bits

    @rickstid-bits

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Mark. Are you cleaning the lint trap every time you use the dryer? We remove the grid and clean the trap every time we throw a load in the dryer. With doing that - ours has never gotten lint build-up that bad. The worst our trap gets is when we dry new of fluffy bath towels.

  • @maubunky1

    @@rickstid-bits Thanks for the tip Rick, yes, I'm very OCD about cleaning the lint filter every single time. I was thinking what else could cause my problem, but the ductwork that connects the dryer outlet vent to the outside of the house is only about 12 inches long and was cleaned prior to installing the new dryer...so there is no air blockage beyond the lint filter, it's very free flowing thanks to the short run of ductwork. I gave my old commercial Amana 22 year old washer and dryer that look identical to the speed queens to my son but he has at least 25 feet of ductwork that needs cleaning but the landlord won't do it..but the dryer still shuts off correctly. It's possible my timer is malfunctioning intermittently...but it works fine on timed dry mode, it's only on automatic dry mode that we experience the continuous running problem about 1 out of 10 loads. I may have to stop the dryer mid cycle just to clean the lint filter but I would probably forget. I will call Speed Queen sometime to ask if this is a known issue of a failing part.

    Hi Mark. I just looked through your model's Owner's Manual. The only note I see that might apply is, " Make sure the load isn’t too small. Other than that . . . I would have a tech come out. Rick

    @@rickstid-bits Ours is 2 1/2 years old and no cover was included, which has frustrated me the entire time we've had it. I stumbled on your video and was THRILLED to see there is a possible answer. I will order one immediately. God bless you, Rick.

    My first thought was, just clean the lint trap out, before you remove the dried clothes. Granted, it's not as elegant as having the lint trap cover, but it's a doable work around.

    Unless you scoop the lint out with your hands, you need a SCREW driver to remove the trap to clean it?? Am I going crazy??

    Hello. No. You scoop the lint trap with your fingers before every use. Everyone should do an annual good cleaning of any brand clothes dryer to include inside the machine, hoses, and pipes. You remove 1 screw to remove the lint trap so you can clean inside the machine - below the lint trap. Rick

    I appreciate this info. My apartment used to have a dryer where you pulled out the lint tray, slid it out vertically, no screws, shook it over a trash bin, and put it back in the dryer. I just don't understand why a dryer would be designed so that you have to put your hand in someone else's lint, or needed a screw driver to remove it, especially in an apartment setting. It just feels like poor design. @@rickstid-bits

    It’s still not a great fix if you have a wife with hair. It gets tangled up in it and it’s a hassle getting the hair out. The lint trap is just a bad design all around.

    They put the D510502W lint cover on their dryers for years. Don't know why they stopped, but they are putting them in the dryers again now. I don't see why the OP had such a problem making sure no clothes were over the filter before closing the door. He will still get clothes stuck if he doesn't watch what he is doing. Such whiners.
