"Hori Split Pad Pro - Is It Worth It?" - • Hori Split Pad Pro - I...
Full Review:
The new HORI Split Pad Pro Attachment Set retails for about $80 and features the Hori Split Pad Pro itself, and the newly released wired attachment controller. It's officially licensed by Nintendo and can be used with both the OLED and Original Switch! We're going to take a closer look at this new attachment set, and compare it to Nintendo's official Switch Pro Controller.
The regular Split Pad is $45 - $50 and the new Split Pad Pro with Attachment Set is $80.The attachment set is only available in black right now.
HORI Split Pad Pro Attachment Set Features:
Pros:
- 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack.
- Physical buttons to mute the mic or turn the headset volume up or down.
- Ability to plug into Switch dock and use as if it was a full-sized controller.
- Large, feels great to use for extended sessions.
Cons:
- Wired.
- Expensive.
- Short cord.
- No Vibration.
- No NFC Support for Amiibo.
- No Motion Controls.
So who is this for? This is for people who use their Nintendo Switch 50% of the time in portable mode, and 50% of the time in docked mode. It's for people who don't already have a Switch Pro controller, and who want a full-size controller feel while using the Switch in portable mode while also having the option to use that same controller in docked mode on the couch.
Is the Hori Split Pad Pro Attachment Set Worth it? Not in my opinion. It's $80, which basically means you're paying an extra $30 just for the HORI Split Pad Pro Attachment Set only. You can get just the Hori Split Pad pro for about $50, sometimes you can find certain colors on sale.
The official wireless Nintendo Switch Pro controller costs $10 less, is a completely wireless controller, features vibration, features motion controls, and features NFC for Amiibo support.
For these reasons, I don't think the Split Pad Pro Attachment Set is the right accessory for me.
What do you think? Is it worth it?

I personally would not be getting the attachment but.. One point that I would like to highlight and rarely mentioned about the hori compared to other joy con alternatives is that the console does not have to keep the hori charged since they do not run on batteries.. After using the hori for the past 2 years, I have noticed that the console is less heated after hours of handheld gaming with the hori. It has become my favourite joy con by far.

I purchased this because I love playing my Switch in handheld mode, but I cramp up too easily with the Joycons -- and I want to preserve them for as long as possible. The ability to play it docked with this controller is just an added bonus. So for me personally, the additional benefits outweigh any of the cons that were already present with the Split Pad Pro. Hori will keep getting my money, because they do make stellar products, and this is just another thing that goes into the collection. I chose this over the Switch Pro controller, only because of the comfort in portable mode. That and, well it's more cost effective in my situation to get an all in one solution, versus buying two products that have overlapping uses. Great video though.

Being wired in this case is a pro for me (although they could have been cheaper, this price is insane). Reason being A: less input lag and B: I experienced severe input lag if multiple third party controllers are connected to the Switch. This is really noticable in games like Smash, Speedrunners, fast Platformers and Fighting Games in general. Of course you could get the Pro Controller for less. I have one on the side. But I prefer the Dpad on the Horis any day of the week if I need it. Being able to use it in TV mode is worth it to me

Two things. One a question and the other a statement as a hori controller owner. First, can this attachment work with other hori split controllers? There are others in different colors and themes and they saddly do not comenwith a wired attachment. Second. The best takeaway for the hori controller you forgot to mention: it dosent have batteries. Its a literal plug in controller hence why it dosen't have any of thoes fancy internal components to power nfc and vibration. And because of not having a battery, it dosen't draw much power from the switch to keep it suplied like the in packaged joy cons. I was able to play games like borderlands 2 for a significant longer time thanks to my own controller!

I think this is perfect for many over the Pro for one key reason. There may be some games like the Sports games and others where you'd like to simulate the movement of the sport and this allows you to do so, whereas the Pro controller is literally like an XBOX controlller which although great for gaming, you will miss out on the niche game titles where sword swinging or tennis racketing becomes fun with the split controllers. EDIT: I realize it doesn't even support motion control. Yeh, not worth it. I was ok with the Haptic feedback not being present but not motion controller

I disagree, there are times while I'm playing that my pro wireless controller runs out of battery in the middle of a game. I then have to scramble to get another controller and sync it in. This is a big hassle, especially during a battle. I use both the hand held and docked tv modes. This is a win, plus I have a extra controller that I don't need to charge or watch the charge signal.

It's cheaper to get the skull and co joygrip and the skull and co. Neogrip combined and put trigger grips on both and attach and detach the joycons from one to the other. Neogrip is dockable and it stays on the switch even with the joycons detached. I think nintendo is forcing them not to make the split pad wireless cuz they know they'd lose money from everyone not wanting to buy joycons. Nintendo is also too prideful to admit that they should probably make their own wireless split pad.

Overprice for what it offers. Os precisely, for what it lacks. I've seen cheap 30 bucks controllers with NFC and Wireless. Hori could've at least try to put one. And there are many like the Split Pad Pro that can work separate from the Switch without any attachments. The only thing Hori has going by comparison is a better D-Pad than most others. And with the full set price I could buy 2 controllers, a dedicated D-Pad for when needed and a better wireless controller.

All slack should be given. What wired controller uses USB-C on Switch? The ports on the doc are USB-A. If you want this handheld, you wouldn't need the adapter at all. It makes no sense to have a cable that's USB-C when there isn't a C port for a controller.

  • @calculateddeclination5534
    @calculateddeclination5534 Жыл бұрын

Hori just needs to make a split pad pro that works like joycons. Binbok does it, and so do a lot of other off brand names but the problem with those controllers are the atrocious dead zones. Maybe then it'll be worth 80 dollars. As they are now, I can't see this being a good purchase. If they functioned as regular joycons, the block that connects the controllers could be a charging block.
