    @@Chambers36TheEnter yeah I had a look at my friends yesterday the lever does feel straighter and nicer for one finger. Overall I think the tech 3 look more jazzy. Not really keen on the bearings on the lever as like you say it will be a part that will need replacing. Do you think there worth it. I'm very tempted as they are the same price as tech 3s atm

  • @Chambers36TheEnter

    @@socialising6037 I guess they are the same price as tech 3 because they priced the tech 4 too high to begin with, it was 195 per brake to begin with. The Tech 3 is discontinued now so I think what's left is new old stock. If they are worth it or not I could not say, they still seem very expensive but it's also very easy to get parts if they do break. In the long run they seem like a solid choice.

    Truly interesting to see them in detail. I have Tech 3 with E4 on my Trek Remedy, and Tech 3 with V4 on my Dengfu eMTB. Absolutely love the Hope brakes. I will continue to put them on all my bikes. I bought the eMTB Tech 3 brakes after they released the Tech 4. They were heavily discounted to make way for the new release. So I scored a sweet deal on the old model Tech 3s. I haven't tried the Tech 4 yet. So can't say if they are better. But I don't have any problems with the Tech 3s whatsoever. They are reliable. They pull the bike up well. And they don't self destruct if you crash. And to be honest, I think I prefer the look/styling of the Tech 3s more than the Tech 4.

    @@BramBiesiekierski I think visually the tech 3 is nicer looking also, especially in the silver Finish. Tech 4 looks like it's still in a prototype phase, something unfinished about it. The 4 on the top cap looks a bit dated in my opinion.

    Interesting idea, I'll try and it see. I'd guess that the new tech 4 piston would be too big/long for the tech 3 lever body but yes you could buy the hybrid caliper pistons for an older E4 caliper. I have not seen the hybrid pistons for sell yet though.

  • @Chambers36TheEnter

    You can buy the hybrid pistons and use them in your e4 calipers that came with your tech 3 brakes. Part number is HBSP432. Not sure if it's an upgrade or not, metal ones more likely to get scratched but apparently move smoother when you pull the lever.

  • @Chambers36TheEnter

    @Chambers36TheEnter

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks. Normally slow lever return is due to a seal being swollen or fluid inside the brake that has solidified. The fluid only tends to do that after many years of sitting around so I would say it's more likely a seal. Worth just stripping the lever it down and checking for any damage to the seals. Also I think Hope give at least a years warranty on their brakes.

    Do you not think the increase in power comes from the leaver being longer ie giving you more ratio

  • @Chambers36TheEnter

    @Chambers36TheEnter

    Жыл бұрын

    I guess it could be. There must be some mathematical equation to say how long the lever would need to be to gain 30% increase over the previous. I do think that the longer piston helps and the fact the master cylinder body is a bit bigger has some affect. Having a longer lever will also highlight any spongy feeling and after bleeding the Tech 4 E4 brakes I had they felt good.

  • @lux-3001

    @lux-3001

    It is a combination of piston diameter, stroke and lever length. Only a longer lever gives too much lever stroke. It is always a compromise between power and modulation.

  • @BramBiesiekierski

    @BramBiesiekierski

    Жыл бұрын

    If the piston count and diameter (surface area) inside the brake calipers hasn't changed. Which it doesn't look like they have. Then only way they could increase brake force is by either DECREASING the diameter of the master cylinder bore. (P=F/A). Or increasing the leveridge ratio between the lever and MC piston. The distance that the piston travels isn't particularly important, and wont affect the pressure. It's the diameter / surface area of the piston that is important, and that is what will affect the pressure. The distance the piston travels will only change how much fluid it can displace per stroke. Which is still important so that you don't run out of stroke. Perhaps the piston diameter is marginally smaller. And they have increased the distance the piston can travel, so the fluid displacement remains similar. A smaller diameter MC piston will generate a higher hydraulic pressure per input force. It will also give a better modulation control, as the same displacement is spread over a larger travel.
