Hope for M.E

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

My dog gremlin has a medical condition called canine mega esophagus & he eats in a special high chair called a bailey chair. I hope that this video will provide encouragement to those dealing with Mega E and awareness to all that megaesophagus does not have to be a death sentence!! I hope that by sharing the story of how complete strangers came together to form a tight knit group of love and support & another complete strangers random act of kindness will warm your hearts and give you hope. I hope that Gremlin can help save the lives of others by creating awareness & spreading the word that there is hope for ME. -3

I have a Mega- Dog too. Sage Marie, 3 years old, GSD. Loves her chair. We made it to spec and enlarged it as she grew. She used to have to stay in her chair after eating her slurry for about 40 mins. She now only needs about 5 mins max. She was also so skinny at the beginning. We soak her kibble in hot water, mash it and she eats herself. She has water in an elevated bowl Hopefully getting her spayed this July. Good luck. Im not getting my girl put down. Shes very happy.

My little Halo is 8 wks old and was very ill a day ago. He was also diagnosed and asked me to put him to sleep. I refused...nobody has a right to take a pets life away. I'm fighting for him and his survival. He is only 5 pounds. So without even knowing about this special chair, I said to him am taking you home and I will care for you until you say so...then thinking about a hope for him i started googling about dogs with ME and found these Bailey chair videos...i think it's so amazing that this was invented for special dogs...so I want to buy my Halo one. I told the vet just like there are special children with needs, this is my special pet in need and I have no right taking his life away and neither do you..and he is home with me. So far so good. He is stronger, playing, barking, bitting, poops well and no throw up. I feed him sitting down on my lap until I can find him a Bailey chair...i love him to pieces and yes he is my little Halõ . He gets tired fast, rest and then back up. Am feeding him puppy milk as well and mushy foods. In a few weeks I will send pics to the vet reminding him that he sure had hope and he is still here living...

I've heard of this chair before, I think on the news. My 5 yr old Maltipoo just recently diagnosed with mega esophagus but also doc says severe esophagitis, but now has pneumonia 24 hours after her endoscopy and feeding tube placement which seems to be causing her nothing but discomfort and stress. Thank you for posting, hope you still have the Gremlin

It's so wonderful someone was kind enough to build a chair for your pup. I just learned about mega esophagus in dogs through a post on Tumblr. It really warms my heart that people are pitching in to help other dogs with the same condition.

Thank you so much for posting this video. We have a 1.5 year old pug with a liver shunt - she has had an ameroid constrictor placed but we are waiting on more tests to see if she now has a collateral shunt and possibly more then one but we are also waiting to see if she has mega esophagus. Currently she has pneumonia and just got over a three day bout of hepatic encephalopathy. We have gotten her a tall glass vase to drink out of in the past few days because she chronically suffers from dehydration, we have noticed she is consuming more water. She is also currently being hand fed by me I sit in a recliner while she stands and I feed her that way. Hoping to build her a chair soon. Thank you for posting this video and letting others know there is hope for sick pets. Sometimes you have to follow your heart. Lots of hugs and kisses to your family from ours and our little furbaby Iggy Popsicle.

omg my prayers are answered.I did not know what was wrong with a 24hr. old pup I thought it was a nursing issue so I fed him by tube every 3 hours round the clock. 2 weeks in I finally figured it out.I continued tubing and he is 5weeks old today Today was the first day he ate wrapped in a towel vertical and chin up, me feeding him soaked but formed kibble. NO CHOKING WHATSOEVER. I am guardedly optimistic and want to learn everything possible about this disease.THANKYOU SO MUCH by the way he is a 14oz. toy mini schnauzer named Pip whom I adore

Thank you for your helpful website and videos! Jazz, our 10-yr old Rottweiler, was diagnosed with megaesophagus 4 days ago. She is eating fine with help, while my husband builds a chair for her. She is not interested in the gelatin cubes. How can we keep her hydrated? The video mentioned a hamster waterer...exactly how do you set this up for your dog?

Thanks for posting this video. Our dog was just diagnosed with Megaesophogus and is recovering from aspirated pneumonia. So we're a bit overwhelmed right now. Been doing a ton of research, and this chair looks promising, although our dog is skitish of a lot of things, not sure it will work. But we may give it a try.

Wow my friend showed me this video and for the life of me I can't believe not one of the 10 vets I have seen in the last 2 weeks told me about this! My Siberian Husky Copper has been diagnosed (confirmed w/ the AB test) w/ Myasthenia Graves and Mega-esophagus. Feeding him has been going great tho. Absolutely astounded by how much better he is doing just by feeding him upright, slowly, and wet food. Some coughs here and there but virtually zero regurgitating. Now water on the other hand is a problem. God this is all so new to us and and our commitment to Copper is unyielding but obviously our biggest fear is aspiration Pneumonia or a something else severe like drowning. We've been feeling so positive of late because just by feeding him upright and holding his head for 2-3 min there is no regurgitating but it seems maybe we do need a Bailey Chair. I didn't know he could actually drown on his water or food (I just read that) and I have read about MG and ME for hours on end.

Hi AllyKari1 sorry I just recovered my google account to get on and respond to your question. Consistency is the best answer I have for training your dog to getting into his or her bailey chair. Gremlin does it because he knows it means food- his chair is always associated with positive things and he actually tries to put himself into it often! Thanks everyone I sure love him.

With my lab she started spitting up food looking exactly as it did when she swallowed it. Temperament is also key, the vets that saw her that day said she was still in a happy mood, so they realized it wasn't an illness.

My dog with ME hasn't had as much of an issue with regurgitating water as she has with food, thank God, but she when she did I actually tried bottle feeding her. It would better in a baileys.
