  • @Csut555
    @Csut5559 жыл бұрын

    Devon's right arm strength was absolutely ungodly at this point. His overall strength is world class which is incredible considering he's only around 240lbs. Most 300+ lb guys can't do anything like what he can. I'd be surprised if even the best strongman competitors between 350-400lbs could do this with one arm. He is Superman.

  • @pizarr084

    @pizarr084

    8 жыл бұрын

    +headcaseman strongman athletes do more extensor muscle work at their events so you won't see them doing anything like this. But just for you to be aware of their sheer arm strength you should see strongman athletes at the 2014 Arnold classic Cyr dumbbell competition where they push immense weights as heavy as Devon's dumbbell (in this video because he might be doing this heavier as of now) add 100lbs more up in the air with one arm not to mention how quick they mount it on their shoulders. Just to be clear I'm not dissing mr Larratt here - I agree that this is an ungodly display of strength and clearly shows what it takes to be an arm wrestling champion.

  • @erkkiven6332

    @erkkiven6332

    8 жыл бұрын

    +pizarr084 I agree that Cyr is impressive event but as I saw they can swing the dumbbell up with TWO HANDS to shoulders. And even if it was with one hand, it is *totally* different game to lift / pull the weight controlled slowly up as Devon does than swing with whole body.

  • @pizarr084

    @pizarr084

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Erkki Ven Yes you are right those are totally different games but both require technique. And Devon is not pulling everything with his arm he's mostly holding it, you would notice the arm extends so slightly with his elbows locked close to his body and at the end of the drop less than 90 degree arm angle he pulls it with his body weight with the elbow as the pivot point and some biceps flex at 1:05. Same with the Cyr it is arm strength with much leg drive at 280lb, but I am sure the top 10 WSM contenders can drive that 180lb dumbbell up in the air without any leg drive. As for how the dumbbell was mounted on the shoulders I am not pertaining to this as arm strength but rather comparing overall strength - how much the effort was made in the video to lift that 180lb dumbbell and hold it in the platform. For the strongman lift the 280lb dumbbell is not resting on a platform but on their body for 15 seconds or so unlike in this move where the pivot point carries most of the weight. Driving the dumbbell up in the air is the actual feat of strength and also technique since it requires leg drive, going under the dumbbell and having a tight core while balancing the dumbbell and pushing it up in the air with shoulders and triceps near the peak after the energy from the leg drive is already dissipated. I also noticed "Overall Strength" from the original post, I would rather say this as "Pulling Strength" which is definitely world class. Overall Strength is strongman area, pulling strength is arm wrestler area. I love and appreciate both sport (and even had fun watching Devon lecture The mountain Thor and Cypalenkov toy with Big Z, and I would also love to see these arm wrestlers try strongman events) and would just like to clarify that BOTH athletes are strong, Armwrestlers train specific strength and Strongman practice overall strength.

  • @erkkiven6332

    @erkkiven6332

    8 жыл бұрын

    "Devon is not pulling everything with his arm he's mostly holding it...." He definitely pulls it only with his arm, how can you even think anything else? Holding requires strength, bodyweight does not help shit. You can weight 1000 kg but the dumbbell isn't any lighter to your arm. I have done this workout myself also. Those events (Cyr and what Devon does) are really so different that just no sense to compare, but one thing is sure; Cyr is way more technical. This is just pure measurement how much you have (static) arm strength. Armwrestlers are specialized in this movement (technique called hook) and I bet there is no strongman in the world who puts more weight in it. We clearly saw it for example when Devon pulled with Hafthor Björnsson (in the video at 0:51). Not any chance.
