HOOK SWAPOUT - TREBLES TO SINGLES ON TROUT LURES - DEMO + GAMAKATSU SIWASH HOOK CONVERSION CHART!

Спорт

Swap out your treble hooks to single AKA siwash hooks to make it easier to release fish, lose less lures and more. I explain with reason I made the switch to single hooks, I demonstrate how to swap out hooks on Thomas Buoyant Spoons and Rooster Tail Spinners and I provide a conversion chart.

    I’ve had a few comments regarding using split rings with spinners, it is an option, but I don’t use them when building spinners for 2 reasons; 1. I believe it makes the spinner too long, especially when using these Gamakatsu Siwash hooks. 2. I believe connecting the hook directly to the spinner wire creates leverage to assist in hookups. I could be all washed up, but we fishermen have our superstitions! Thanks for the discussion, I appreciate it! 👍🏻🎣

    Thank you so much. I fish a lot of State and Federal streams that during delayed harvest it is single hook only or wild streams that are single only. I wanted to know how to change out the trebles since I feel I also get better hook-ups as well over the treble with fewer hang-ups as well. The sizing chart is huge too, thank you. Know to make them barbless as well or look for hooks that start barbless.

    This will cause some lures to swim improper. Like a kastmaster. If you put a single hook on a kastmaster it makes the tail of the lure ride higher in the water with less action, and it may dive more when retrieved

  • @RAGEFISHING

    from my experience, offset hooks still has the odds to gut hook. The offset can pentrate any part of the fish's mouth, true, but if they swallow it, chances are it will hook them in the gut. The inline hooks are more likely to slide back out if they swallow them and catch them in the lip.

I will try the Gamakatsu siwash hooks, I had switched out using some very fine gauge barbless hooks from Japan, they are scary sharp, but incredibly difficult to keep fish pinned. If I am reeling trout in directly against strong current they are most likely to stay pinned. (reeling them upstream). I fish mainly with jigs and do not have the same problems. Sometimes the fish just won't leave my spoons alone, but if not above condition very rarely will I get them hooked and in.

  • @RAGEFISHING

    @RAGEFISHING

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@evilmung maybe they are just small ones coming undone? Or, maybe your rod’s action is too fast (stiff)? Bass anglers use softer rods for crank baits so the fish won’t come off as easy, the softer rod doesn’t pull the hooks out as easy as a fast rod. 🤔

    This is not even a question for me: Gonna grab myself the tools, and take off the treble hooks on all of my rooster tails. Because, I cannot stress just how much of a pain treble hooks are for me. Especially if I am fishing trout, and want to get the hook out of them, either for release and/or keeping. Thanks for the question. 1. I would have no need to change the hook out once I have a siwash on there. 2. I think it makes the profile of a small trout lure too long.
