I’m an American who has recently discovered this amazing game. From what little I’ve seen of the game and listening to the commentary, this sounds like a heart-pounding, nail-biting game, one of the best games of the season. You have a new fan in the USA.

I'm glad someone in the AFL media stated the bleeding obvious, Ginnivan is solely being adjudicated differently and against the rules of the game because he has a reputation. A reputation in large part built by the same AFL media

He’s been seen on social media teaching the other younger players how to drop your knees and manipulate the umpires. You might be right about the fact he’s not getting some free kicks he deserves. But you’re wrong simply blaming the media. He makes the umpires look silly.. and then gets filmed teaching his fellow players so they can make the umpires look silly. He has proved that he is not playing the ball first going hard n low and taking the free kicks that are there. (Like a Selwood does) he is picking up the ball and then his first thought is trying to get a free kick. Which is against the spirit of the game. Umpires are only human. They pay the free kicks to protect the player only to have him rubbing it in their face through the week. Having so much success with it that he is now saying to his teammates “try this”. This is a game that has lots of 50-50 decisions (that could go either way) being decided by somebody who has already been tricked by the player. Anybody with any common sense at all could see what was gonna happen next. Look.. I don’t mind the kid. When Kane corns had a go at him at the start of the year.. I stuck up for him. When people didn’t like the blonde hair goal celebrations, and unapologetic interviews. I applauded the kid for being true to himself. At that point I thought the game needed more Jack Ginavans not less. I think AFL footballers are way too robotic, and I really dug what he brought to the game. I still do. But he has nobody to blame but himself. And the club have nobody to blame but themselves because they stuck up for him and stood by him and forced somebody else to do something about it. A simple instruction to not play for free kicks would have ended this issue before it blew up!! Now we have junior footballers all over the country watching that JG tutorial video and trying to emulate the technique. So you now have children looking to put their head in harms way rather than simply attacking the contest. And unfortunately sometimes you have to break a few eggs to make an omelette!! meaning.Jack is probably going to miss out on a few free kicks. Because instead of taking a short-term view of protecting the head from one (the tacklers) action. They are now taking a long-term view by protecting the head another way. They are trying to take away the benefit and advantage that comes from his action. Which is risking your own well-being by initiating head high contact yourself. If he and all the people that copy him go back to playing the game the way it was intended. instead of picking up the ball and saying to yourself “hmm how can I get a free kick by initiating my own head hi Contact” everything will go back to normal. Having to decide whether a tackle was head high or not will become a lot more clear-cut. They are the ones that have created the grey area!! They are the ones that have forced the umpire to ask themselves.. “is this guy trying to trick me” when a player goes for the ball with genuine intent any head hi Contact is much easier to adjudicate. But Jack Cody Weightman n co’s first thought when getting the ball. (even before thinking about what to do with the ball) is. “how can I get this guy to hit me in the head!!” And at the end of the day.. Even if you give him those free kicks. It turns a crappy five possession game into a nine possession game. So?!? Maybe he/they need to stop focusing on what they can get out of the umpires, and try and do something about being a one trick pony. Cause if he dsnt..he will be whingeing about VFL umpires rather than the AFL. All the Collingwood supporters are delusional. You think barely getting over teams like North Melbourne and Essendon makes you a premiership threat. You think the AFL world and the media just pick on you. Bubut you are the masters of unforced errors!! Nobody shoots themselves in the foot as much as Collingwood!! Nobody forced you to play that way!! Nobody forced you to blow up your salary cap. Nobody forced you to treat Adam Treloar so disgracefully. You saw his partner moving interstate as an opportunity to break a contract by pretending to care about the welfare of the player. Then when he saw through those disgusting tactics you tried to trick him into thinking his teammates didn’t want him anymore!! Nobody forced to you to let D-Goey go to Bali after having seen what he did in America. Nobody forced you to sign Brody Grundy to a seven year contract you now regret!! You’ve been your own worst enemies for as long as I can remember. You won a premiership in 2010 and the whole footy world looked at Collingwood and saw a dynasty. So you sacked your premiership coach to stick to some BS succession plan. And you found a way to take a potential dynasty and flush it down the toilet!! You had the best president in the competition that 16 other clubs would all love to have. And you let the woke leftist media bully you into dumping him !! So you dumped the best president Collingwood has ever had. A president that took you from the bottom of the ladder and massive debt and turned you into the Manchester United of the AFL. You got rid of your coach that took your team from the bottom of the ladder into two grand finals. Almost pinching one from one of the greatest teams/dynasties the AFL has ever seen. Then he rebuilt that team again !! Got you your first flag since 1990 (even though you needed two bites of the cherry to make it happen) in 2011 you only lost 3 games to one team for the whole year.. Yet those two years prior still didn’t dissuade you from abandoning your succession plan experiment. And replaced him for an untried coach that had never been outside the Collingwood system!! No club has ever struggled to get out of their own way as much as Collingwood!! Yet no supporter base has ever whinged and cried and blamed everybody but themselves as much as Collingwood supporters do. So stop your whining!!! Jack, Collingwood and the supporters themselves. Have nobody to blame but yourselfs. You’re now calling yourself “the flagpies” because you barely got past the worst team since Fitzroy and then needed a kick after the siren to beat a team only slightly better than them!! Mason Cox is the worst 30-year-old footballer in the history of the game. If you take away every Ruckman that hasn’t played 25 games. He is the worst Ruckman in the league. The worst player over 200 cm in the league !! But because Collingwood‘s priorities are all messed up you ignore all that because he’s American and point to the fact that once or twice a year he takes a few grabs and kicks a few goals. I could go on and on and on all the way back to Allan Didak and Heath Shaw lying to the club after crashing a car drink-driving. Darren Millane, hijacking buses. Performance enhancing drugs scandals, gambling scandals!!! All those grand final losses !! There are so many incidents that would not have happened anywhere else but Collingwood. The biggest club in the AFL. One flag in the 21st-century is the same return as the Bulldogs that are a tiny club compared to Collingwood. And now you’ve had to hire two past players because you can’t trust yourselves to make sure Collingwood is a safe working environment for your indigenous players. And even if you wanna dismiss all that and blame Lamumba!! Lamumba played at Melbourne, Krakour played at Richmond… there’s no racism scandals coming out of those clubs!! So instead of playing the victim ALL THE TIME!!! Take a look inwards and understand every wound Collingwood has ever had to endure was completely self-inflicted!! Your problem isn’t the media or the AFL or the rules. Your problem is that it doesn’t matter if you’re sitting on the board or out in the grandstand as a fan….collectively..you’ve never had even a shred of self-awareness . Everything is either “poor me”🥺 or somebody else’s fault!!!

@@JaxTheGat I agree with a lot of what you said and also disagree with a lot you said. Look he is silly for going on a podcast and bragging about it, absolutely. He is a young 19 year old kid. If you think selwood hasn't been practising his craft for years, you're crazy. I blame the media because Kano and Gary Lyon started this crusade that grew like a runaway boulder and whether you want to admit it or not, ginnivan has been (I say unfairly) targeted in a way no kid making his way in the game should be targeted. I always laugh at people trying to justify what selwood has gotten away with for over 10 years is somehow different than Jack Ginnivan. The only difference I see is the AFL media have shut down any fan criticism of Joel and fanned the flames when it comes to Jack. Since the hawks game, defenders have been getting away with whatever they want on Ginnivan and to his credit he hasn't dropped his head or been sooking it up. He puts the arms out and often gives a wry grin, everyone can see it. Bucks has alluded to it, the media's weight they put on young blokes but of course if says anything blatant he will be bagged as well.

Playing with passion playing for the black and white jumper i have not seen this from Collingwood in a long time they just wont give up , you do not win 9 close games by luck there is a shift in mentality at this club , loving the ride hope we smash Carlton rd 23 icing on cake

Ginnivan has a legally strong position to sue the AFL's rules board's ass for going after him, if it wrecks his potentially stellar career. It's not the only non-accountably ignorant thing this particular board has done recently. Heads should roll..

Common sense from the AFL I'd like to see that. The entire AFL executive has brought the great game into disrepute. Fine them all $5,000 for collective moronism. You cannot cure stupidity and 2022 confirms that in spades. 2.5/10 is simply not good enough.

The game was so awesome that Ginnivan getting his head chopped off was almost forgotten about. It’s more an afterthought. He did lean into the tackle, but a free should’ve been paid. I’m also not mad that it wasn’t.

Congrats to Collingwood - but if we are going to be talking smack about free kicks not being awarded to Ginnivan - which I agree he should have got - we have to also concede that every day of the week - that 50m free would have been awarded to Harry Jones after tackling Jeremy Howe - the whistle is blown and the other Pies player kicks the ball away - 50m... Harry should never have missed that 40m straight in front kick... but would never have missed one 5 meters out....

@ more about they are both x2 umpiring decisions that were not officiated correctly.. however one directly impacted the outcome of the game.. the other which didn't seems to be getting the Lions share of media attention..

@ one of us is talking in hypotheticals of how game may have played out if Ginevins free kick had been awarded.. we know how the game played out.. its that last minute of the game where every decision mattered.. don't get me wrong.. it should not have been a 50m penalty on top of Harry Jones free kick required for Don's to win the game.. but I just think they are focussing on talking about the wrong thing in terms of certain free kicks not being awarded.

They’re taking the piss at this point. It’s eye rolling if you’re not a pies fan. It’s almost boring and predictable that pies will fluke a win with seconds left these days. A team should only get one or two of those wins a season if they’re lucky, not 5 weeks in a row of pulling victory out of defeats ass lol

This is bs.... if the Pies are so good, why do they so often find themselves behind in games where they have to rely on luck and a prayer to win in the dying minutes?

He’s lucky he kicked that. Ten people were in the goal square alone calling for it and still decided to do a cocky kick. But good win by the pies.

Dont cherry pick stats to suit your little agenda. 18th also beat Richmond who have been talked about as potential top 4 until last week. Collingwood also beat Fremantle in WA, Melbourne and Carlton (who are still being talked up). Pies haven't been playing great yet still getting the wins. Look out when they string 4 quarters together
