Ok so basically some of my coaches says that the second part is leaving you open and not protected with your shoulder, even if that’s more powerful punch it doesn’t worth it. What do you think about it? What type of lead hook should a fresh fighter learn?

Are you referring to the final position after follow through? If so, I'm not sure what they mean because my shoulder is connected right to my cheek but I might be misunderstanding. Try to get clarity on that for me and I'll be able to respond. Regarding the type of lead hook a new fighter should learn, I teach this one as a close to mid-range but there are multiple ways to throw lead hooks depending on distance, the intended target, the specific situation or position you are in at that moment, and even personal preference. It serves us to learn them all over time in the sport. Giving up a bit of power for defensive responsibility is generally worth it and I agree with your coaches on that! I'm just not sure where they think I'm leaving myself open... The nature of leaving our guard so we can reach out and hit somebody means we are always opening ourselves up at least a little bit. You can't have your hands on your face and your elbow tight to your body at the same time as using that arm to punch someone. I feel like the method I've shown in this video minimizes how much you open up quite nicely. Ask your coach which step they are concerned about and head back in here and we can break things down. 🙏

kzread.info/dash/bejne/a4SNlsFmiargf7A.htmlsi=pfhD2i8zS3Owbm3S Take a look at this video... Almost every ko is using pretty much the same type of hook I've shown.

@@martialartsunlimitedvictoria sorry, i can clarify - the second part is when you move your hand a bit away from your body, then you move your upper body to the point that your hand have no choice but to follow the body rotation, dealing massive damage due to so to speak strong hand position, you basically punch with the rotation of your shoulders, and not with the hand itself. Your hand is not touching target before full rotation of the body. And so in that very moment when your start to rotate your upper body your shoulder is not cover your chin/jaw, because it waits for upperbody to force tour hand to rotate with it. It’s kinda hard to explain sorry:) But on the other hand when i’m trying to move the position of my hand with upperbody rotation to make my shoulder covering my jaw all the time, basically trying to force my hand to rotate as well from the start, first- I’m punching with a tense hand, which is not good, and second, i don’t feel that this punch is nearly powerful enough, because it seems that i’m punching with only hand Thank you for showing interest to my problem, and thanks for the video! Some of those hooks was by the way more driven by hand, seems that when you need a faster punch, you should add the hand movement, otherwise you should just keep it following your body and relaxed until the connection to the target happend
