Hooi hakselen en persen met Case IH CHX520 en BB9080 door OTP Echten - deel 1 (2018)

O.T.P. Echten busy chopping hay with a very rare Case IH CHX520 forage harvester, the chopped hay in directly pressed into bales by a New Holland BB9080 large square baler behind the harvester.
Unlike their New Holland BB960A balers behind the FR9050 forage harvesters, which I filmed in 2016 chopping and baling hemp and straw and are hydraulically driven, this BB9080 is powered by a PTO from the harvester.
The bales are wrapped by a Steyr CVT 6170 with a Kverneland UN7655 bale wrapper.
More to come in part 2 in which we see more of the chopping and also the collecting and loading of the bales by Mts Rolleman.
And for those wondering ; the forage harvester is actually a New Holland FX which Case IH brought onto the market renamed as CHX (CHX420, CHX520 and CHX620) somewhere between 2002 and 2007.
Fiatagri did something similar in the 90's with the FX-series with Fiatagri model numbers 9630, 9640 and 9650.

    Dankje Marijn.

    What would the benifit of this be, Over conventional baleing with a tractor?

  • @nagd2010

    @nagd2010

    5 жыл бұрын

    The grass is chopped finer than a conventional baler can do, even though balers have knifes (crop cutter). Some farmers prefer fine chopped grass and that's where this combination comes in handy. Same with straw, some farmers prefer fine chopped straw, and a forage harvester can chop it finer than a conventional baler can do. It's a bit hard to see on a photo or video, but if you're up close next to a bale, you can clearly see the difference.

    nagd2010 : how come short chopped bales don't fall apart. have they got some net around them put on by baler?

  • @nagd2010

    @nagd2010

    5 жыл бұрын

    No, they don't use a net or something, they just look like any ordinary big bale, except you the grass is clearly chopped in smaller bits. I guess it has something to do with the settings of the baler (more compression I guess). When they change crop (straw > hay > hemp, or even maize) usualy the first bale coming out does fall apart, then they change some settings on the baler (not sure what exactly, I just watch from a distance), and then the bales that come out afterwards are perfectly solid and don't fall apart (at least the grass and straw ones, hemp and maize need more careful handeling).

    Is this "custom work", or owned by the farmer? Being dry and wrapped, is this to be "stored" outside? I would think that the integrity of the bale would be compromised by all the fibers of the hay being short. How is the feeding process handled? Lastly, how much to own, outright, or to have done?

  • @nagd2010

    Even with modern balers (with cropcutter and such) the product is still rougher (not sure if that is the correct term, I can't come up with a more proper term in English for it ) than the product that this combination makes. There is clearly a difference between chopped bales like this, or one from a regular baler. In most situations a normal baler will do the job just fine. But in some cases, farmers prefer a product that has been chopped, and that's where this machine comes in.

    Higher Dry Matter intake for the cows eating it. They will eat more short mer grass than long hay. If you have the margin to do it why not. Plus savings from moving less bales if they are denser than not chopped. Also I doubt it’s using that much more fuel than a tractor.

    Looks worse than it realy is. The grass dust that blows away isn't even enough to make a quarter of a bale (I think I would even have a hard time filling my backpack with it ;) ).

    Stupid to chop dry hay. 🙄 just cut it earlier if u want it less coarse. Sp harvester prob use three times fuel a tractor and baler would

    LSZocker2009 : GOOD idea for maze if you want to sell it in bale form. waste of time for hay.
