Honus Wagner: The Man Behind The Card
Ойын-сауық
Honus Wagner, born Johannes Peter Wagner on February 24, 1874, in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, was a legendary American baseball player who became one of the greatest shortstops in the history of the sport. Wagner spent the majority of his 21-season career with the Pittsburgh Pirates in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Wagner's career began in 1897 with the Louisville Colonels, but he achieved his greatest success with the Pirates. Known for his exceptional fielding skills and powerful hitting, Wagner played a key role in leading the Pirates to victory in the 1909 World Series. He was part of the famous "Pirates of Wagner" lineup, which included other Hall of Famers like Fred Clarke and Vic Willis.
Notably, Wagner's baseball card from the early 20th century, produced by the American Tobacco Company, is considered one of the most valuable and sought-after collectibles in the hobby. Known as the T206 Wagner card, its rarity and association with the iconic player have contributed to its high value among collectors.
Honus Wagner was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the sport. He retired with impressive career statistics, including a lifetime batting average of .327. After his playing career, Wagner remained involved in baseball as a coach and advisor. He passed away on December 6, 1955, leaving behind a lasting legacy as one of baseball's all-time greats.

My father played semi-pro ball on a team owned and managed by Wagner after he retired from mlb. Yes, I’m old.
Thank you for this very loving and respectful video of The Flying Dutchman whose museum is in Carnegie, Pennsylvania.
Thanks for sharing

Nah, Ozzie Smith was the GOAT
Wagner is the best shortstop in baseball history. His legendary defensive skill more than compensates for the home runs that he wasn't even trying to hit.

He'd be a slugger today.
Interesting to hear a British narrator on a biography of a player in the Great American Pastime.
Very nice video. I never noticed before, (until watching this video) that Honus Wagner has ptosis eyelids (like I unfortunately, also have)
thanks for sharing.
The irony is that Wagner objected to promoting tobacco use. The tobacco card was pulled, that's why it's rare, and sadly I think, that's what's he's most remembered for--that objectionable card (a marketing gimic) not his great accomplishments.
