I always preferred this theme song compared to the one he used for the rest of his WWF run. I also remembered it being used at Wrestlemania III and when he won the Intercontinental Title from Ricky Steamboat.

I believe he was using this song at the start of his WWF run in the fall of 1986 during his Horrifically bad and Hilariously Failed babyface stint. Whenever the Piledriver album came out is when he switched to his more familiar tune.

One of his best entrance ever. Hahaha Jesse Ventura was so funny. "Oh I love when he plays behind his back." Hahaha.

This theme was used up until fall of '87. Demolition and Slick had also gotten theme songs that year. And I'm referring to the Piledriver album.

This played at the end of the episode where he won the IC title from Steamboat. I remember watching that match and being in total shock when HTM won the IC title. Never had I been more surprised by a wrestling match outcome than that one.

I remember seeing that too. My recollection is that the show went off the air with slo-mo replays with that music playing and showing Steamboat with his hands up in the air in a WTF pose. I could be wrong, but that's the image that is etched in my memory.

I was a 5th grader in Buffalo when I went to the WWF taping at the old War Memorial Auditorium that night. I swear, everyone in the whole arena pretty much stood around in a daze trying to figure out if we'd really seen what we had just seen lol

It was a huge shocker! We all thought Steamer was gonna have a long IC belt run and this was only 2 months after Mania 3. Little did we know the backstory to why till years later

@@camilocienfuegos2866 Also they beautifully sold The Who pinned who finish that I always loved as when the small package or roll up was turned over. Same finish as the Orton vs Muraco match on Superstars around this time after they had the tag team break up angle.

AWESOME! This was the theme song that HTM used at the very first WWF TV taping I ever attended, the WWF Superstars of Wrestling taping from March 10, 1987. IIRC, Koko B. Ware's first theme song was "The Bird" by The Time(Dubbed over on the WM3 Anthology DVD), & Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat used "Sirius" by The Alan Parsons Project as his theme music from '86-'88, also dubbed over on WWE DVDs.

We also came down the aisle to this song when he won the IC title against Ricky The Dragon

I have not watched wrestling since after WM 5. But, I distinctly remember him using this theme right after he became a bad guy. It was used at WM3 against Jake "The Snake" Roberts.

Wow. Never thought it'd be possible to find this song! It seemed like no one remembered that HTM has a different theme before "Cool, cocky, bad"

Although Honky sang 3 songs in the big wrestling companies, this song is iconic because he had it when he became the Greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time!

Yes, upload that Demolition instrumental theme! That was the theme they used at the aforementioned Superstars taping I attended at Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio. Johnny V. managed Demolition at the time.

Trust me, i was around when HTM's first vignettes appeared on tv & i have all his earliest matches- this song is the real deal ! Thanks again for posting this- it's incredibly cool

Funny thing is Honky himself doesn't even remember this theme song, he only recalls his classic one.

This was his best theme, they should have never changed it!

Honky was a great heel. His Elvis gimmick was awesome. Fabulous ic champ. This theme is funny.

This is the song I wish he would have stuck with because it had more of an, 'I'm coming to kick your a$$', mentality.

if you watch any WWE classic HTM macthes these days from this time this theme is cut out and replaced with his more familiar one.. I think they did that because they figured no one would recognize it and HTM is more known for his 'cool cocky bad' theme than this one ... I do think it is a Jim Johnston original song cause I remember there was also an instrumental version of this that he would come out to

This first-generation theme song was replaced, because it is NOT as good as the one that replaced it! The one that replaced it is 100% perfect for The Honkytonk Man

Thanks for sharing. Do you have Demolition's 1st theme music? It is all instrumental. It's not the version by Rick Derringer from the Piledriver album. That was their 2nd theme.

Rick Derringer's version was a faster lyric'd version of the same tune. This made it immediately familiar when the Piledriver album came out.

Shoulda stuck with this one. According to the backstage interview Wayne Farris did at Wrestlemania 3, this is apparently called That's Alright Honkytonk Mama, but it sounds more like it's called I'm a Honkytonk Man.

Think honky had this at mania 3 and when he defeated the dragon for the IC title. Could nearly hear it at mania the crowd were so loud

Hey JYDThump if the full tape is on the computer already why not merge both sides and all the tracks into one track and leave it to upload overnight sometime. I think that is a good way to get around your busy life scedule whilst also finishing the project off as you would be getting in bed as soon as your boot the upload off and when it's done you will be awake by then for the next days work.

Was this a licensed track? I know it's not a chart topper by any means, but I remember WWE switching to his more recognized entrance theme when their Pile Driver album was released in fall of 1987.

They took the Grease "You're the one that I want" theme and flipped it.

This is a far better '50s-style song and works better than his more famous theme for what the act was at this point.

Does the tape that has this and other songs also have Bam Bam's that he used late 87 early 88, The theme that has the sound of sax in it????
