This takes me right back to that transition period in my childhood going from primary school to secondary school and the true idiom was full of files of hazard,bj and the best,Smokey and the bandit, and then this underrated movie makes an appearance with an all star cast!

One of my favorite films. I randomly found it in a dollar bin at big lots along with the first season of Simon and Simon. Best 2 bucks I ever spent lol

This was my favorite scene of this movie. Classic. I recall watching it at my first duty station in Berlin back in 1982.

I grew up with this film and it's one of my favourites (and I'm from the UK!). Absolute classic and such a shame not enough people heard about it. I love the different characters - very well done and hard to match these days without lots of computer generated graphics. Good actors are hard to come by these days...

How awesome. I remember everyone had the happy hands stuck in the windows and how nice it is to see all the AMC 's still running the road. I'd love to have that Matador, Hornet, saw a Rebel & a few Ambassadors in there

That’s the movies for ya! If they went for realism, most of these people would be horribly maimed, hospitalized with critical injuries or dead. But larger than life characters in American social comedies of the 70’s and 80’s could withstand a Mack truck as well as any cartoon character! 👍

Ingredients for the perfect car crash scene: ===>>> 1) A 5-ton 1970's GMC C6500 must jump at least 50 feet over a previously dynamited freeway bridge (breaking the back of the stunt driver), through a mid-1970's Fleetwood Southwind motorhome, push a 1973 Type 1 Beetle up a boat trailer and over a 1974 AMC Matador, ram and flip a BRAND ASS NEW 1980 Lincoln Continental up and over a 1972 Chrysler New Yorker spilling an urn with the ashes of the mother of the Lincoln's occupant, and ram a 1973 1/2-ton Chevy Pickup FULL of oranges flipping it over a 1973 Pontiac LeMans dumping the oranges into a open top Jeep CJ-5 BURYING the 4 gay strippers therein before tipping on its side while forcing off the road a 1979 Excalibur Phaeton Series III Roadster driven by a high end pimp carrying hookers, one of whom is a nun who was turned out for her first time earlier that day. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ===>>> 2) The African lion and rhinoceros that were the cargo of the C6500 must then escape and begin terrorizing the bewildered drivers and passengers littering the freeway. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ===>>> 3) For good measure throw a random sampling of other awesome cars in the collateral damage wake including a 1966 Buick Wildcat Convertible, a 1979 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, A 1966 For Fairlane Station Wagon, a 1976 Ford Courier, and whatever else your heart desires.

@opalwinnebago Yeah, though if it were a classic there'd be popularity. That being said my channel is primarily old content that was once shown on television but they are just short clips not whole TV shows or movies.

i think the scene with oranges flying onto the jeep full of gay guys (trust me, they're in there) is a reference to the anita bryant fiasco around that same time.

This is a comedy which isn't funny. I laughed once, right at the start, where the coach had to brake suddenly because the nuns' car was driving so slowly. I just don't understand why an Oscar winning director thought it would be a good idea to make this film, especially when those close to him read the screenplay and had to ask if it was meant to be a comedy. The film basically mocks America which might (just) be something it could get away if the director was American but for a foreign director to come in and take the piss out of the country where he was working was likely to cause offence - which it did. No one went to see it and the fact this (mercifully) short film's budget ballooned to the level of a Bond movie meant it was an *enormous* flop. Schlesinger's career never recovered after this.
