    Hi Felix ! Between shaves you should be ok with just a few laps on a good strop. After a certain number of shaves I recomend you use the Jnat I sold to you. Same as I do on the final of this video. With a coticule the method is the same. Unfortunately I don't have much free time at the moment to shoot a honing video, but I can recommend a few for you to watch: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fXqkmcaTos-ad8Y.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/eIx81aeNccTZocY.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/pqNpvI9-dqqqcrw.html

    Hello ! Usually I use diamond plate, its easier.. Works well.. Naguras are similar stones to the base stone, but not exactly the same, sometimes finner, sometimes not no much. They're fun and it's good to have options. Basically diamond slurry is the modern way to do it. Naguras are the traditional way. You can find naguras at: www.aframestokyo.com On etsy sometimes.. Ebay.. Particular seller on facebook groups.. Thanks for watching ! Cheers !

    Please, Pedro, could you tell me what is the brand of the loupe and of the folding knife? What I normally do is to hone one side of the blade until I can feel the burr, then I hone the other side of it. This video is the BEST I have watched about the whole honing proces of a straight razor. However, how can I know the number of passes needed before moving to the next stone?

  • @pedrotrust

    @pedrotrust

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Felix, This is a good loupe: www.ebay.com/itm/333455891713 Easy to use.. You move from bevel setter, when bevel is set. No micro chips visible, and the razor is able to shave arm/leg hair without any effort. After that you move from grit watching the scratches from previous grit being replaced by the smaller scratches of the higher grit. Or by feeling, this takes some time to develop. But if you set the bevel properly the rest is easy. The number of passes on each stone will vary with many factors, as steel hardness, stone quality, pressure. Etc.. The knife is a japanese kiridashi folding knife. Can't find a link at the moment. Cheers

    Hello my friend , sorry I missed your comment. Well.. Jnats are totally different than synthetics, your 12k will give you a good edge to shave. The jnat usually will give a more comfortable, smoother edge.. But it takes some practice to master. Your 12k is straight forward.. 🙄 Saying that, the higher synthetic i use is a 5k.. After that only naturals.. First, try an edge from a jnat and see what you think.. Thanks for watching !

  • @pedrotrust

    @pedrotrust

    The Blade will only stick to the stone if the Blade is straight, a curved Blade will not stick, or almost not.. The stone is perfectly flat... And if the bevel set was done correctly. In resume: start again.

    @@MrSilvestre587 Almost no pressure, plenty wet. You should feel the stickiness. Otherwise like I said, the blade is not straight or the bevel is not set, or the stone is not flat. Keep practicing and testing different pressures, different strokes, circles, x padrons, etc.. Will will figure it out. If it does not get sticky, but the blade is shaving hair easily, just test shave, maybe it's a great edge already!

    Pedro, please, could you recommend me what brand of razors (not very expensive ones) should I purchase to practise honing them? By the way, why don't you use 3K Naniwa to set the bevel? • @pedrotrust

    @pedrotrust

    Жыл бұрын

    Felix, get a few Gold Dollars from China to practice. I don't use a naniwa 3k to set the bevel simply because it would be a waste of time. To set the bevel the range around 800/1000k is the best compromise between time and results. Don't forget the bevel set is the most important step. Again, setting the bevel with a Belgian blue is not impossible but I would only try it if no other stone was available.

    What is cross contamination? Dois It also applies to strops?

  • @pedrotrust

    @pedrotrust

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Felix.. Cross contamination is when you spread one grit particle in to another step of the process (stone, razor, strop, etc) contaminating with lower grit, going backwards.. Imagine you are honing on a 5k stone, but your razor still got some 1k grit particules from bevel set.. Your going anywhere, basically staying on 1k thinking you're on 5k...
