Sounds to me like someone bought the thirstiest car you can find, drive it for 20 mins in city traffic a few times per day while the battery is constantly cold, so that the PTC is always running, then idling it while someone runs into a store... and then they wonder why the battery keeps draining. Or they keep it warm at all times in the garage while running of that schuko.

What about that really high overall consumption figure.. 800Wh/km..? Have they been leaving it pre-conditioning itself for hours? Maybe it's not turning itself off properly and something's still running when it should be sitting in the garage doing nothing.

@bjornnyland Bjørn if a man wants a luxury EV SUV that is super quiet, has very soft ride. And he doesn't care about charging, because he will 90% of the time charge it at home. What should he take? Audi E-Tron or Hongqi?

If you can afford such a car then you should afford to install legal and safe charging in your garage 🙂

This is a lie invented by charging companies. If a socket is rated 16A you are able to take out 16A 24/7

It is safe and legal. Portable chargers like that have overheat detection for the plug and the car is parked in the garage so there is no PEN fault risk.

@@tomsixsix It is not legal for new permanent installations in Norway. Even if there is overheat detection, you still don't know what is before the outlet.

@@tomsixsix In Norway it's sort of illegal. In new housing (since 2022) it's not allowed to charge cars through normal outlet (schuko). In older housings I believe regulations say that it's still allowed to use it for "emergency" charging as long as that outlet is on its own wiring, not shared with other things. Though then of course the definition of "emergency" is rather open ended... Disclaimer: I'm not an electrician but I bought new house recently and that's what I understood from what was said.

There should be a warranty of at least 2 years for the PTC heater, right?

  • @Gazer75

Warranty means nothing in Norway for things like that. We have 5 years by law here. Any product or part of it that is intended to last more than 5 years will get this. Obviously parts like brakes do not have this as they are subject to wear and tear.

Maybe they don't shut it down properly so that it keeps using small amounts of electricity while it's stationary, resulting in "ghost consumption" between drives and extra high apparent Wh consumption per km?

SHUKO!!! what is wrong with shuko? I have nothing else than shuko at home(on a dedikated 10A fused surcuit with the proper fuse type), charging with the "emergency"charger that came with the Classic Kia soul in 2015 and have now well over 200k km on the odo. Works great! 🙂

  • @MortenB0

You know that a schuko with 10A fuse only have 1.5 mm2 cable between schuko and the fuse and is designed for 10A in shorter periods (like 1 hour max.) and has a constant maximum current of 8.1A. While a 16 A fuse have 2,.5mm2 cable and is also designed for 16A in shorter periods only and has a constant load of 13A. So that is the difference, for car charging you need to look at what the maximumum constant load is since the car carges for a very long time. So then if you charge with 10A you should never use a 10A fused schuko but only a 16A, and not have more than the charger connected (not like in this garage with a second schuko going somewhere). Charging a car at 10A on a 10A schuko will start an overheat at one point, it is only a question of when
