The Honeywell C Wire Adapter is designed to work with with Smart Thermostat Systems that require a C wire but the existing wiring to the thermostat does not currently include a C wire. It takes systems that have 4 wires and utilities one of those to add a C wire so your smart thermostat will work.
In my testing the Honeywell C wire adapter has worked with the Amazon Smart Thermostat and the Nest Smart Thermostat
