Ok so I and two other friends did this recipe this afternoon, following Laura's instructions. While waiting for the wax to cool down to 120 degrees, it began to harden at 135 degrees. We had to reheat it. After adding in the honey and vanilla extract, the wax formed lumps which were not going away with stirring. So we had to reheat again to get the lumps out. KZreadrs have an uncanny ability to make everything seem easy , but when three people have the same issue while working one recipe, it calls for better instructions . Perhaps a step by step in the description box along with measurements. However we followed the video exactly and the temperature did not work. Plus the honey despite being mixed well, still ended up mostly in the last jar. 🤷

There are a few things that could have happened as to why you had issues. I know this is late but...beeswax is ify. I have watched a few videos from people who make beeswax candles for a living and they say you should pour between 155 - 165 degrees F. It's still warm enough to be fluid and doesn't have a skin on top. Also, you have to watch the temperature of everything. What was the temp in you room? What was the temp of the jars? If either is too cool then the wax will harden quicker. You can put your jars in the oven on the lowest setting to keep the warm til pouring then wrap them in aluminum foil to hold the heat before pouring. Or use a heating pad. Also, in order to get a smooth candle, make sure you pour it in the very center in one smooth motion. Not too fast or you'll get bubbles. And don't stop and start because, unlike soy, beeswax won't blend into itself. So you will see where you stopped and started pouring again. Unless you want that look. And it is best to a square wick with beeswax to get a good hot throw. The wick size depends on you jar size. Anything 3 diameters or less needs a #2 square wick, larger than 3 is around a #6. If it's too big then I am not sure about the wick size. And make sure it is actually pure beeswax and not a mixture of something, even though some people blend raw coconut oil with the wax to get a smoother consistency. Like 2 parts wax to 1 part oil and blend well for at least 2 minutes. Happy candle making.

Honey that has other additives, and isn’t pure, could be the problem too. But I haven’t done a honey candle yet so not exactly sure. I have had cracking in my beeswax candles tho, going to try a cooler temp 😉

Beeswax has a very distinctive slightly sweet and pleasant smell and "crayons" is not it. It's possible the wax you got is not beeswax at all. Also the smell of beeswax doesn't really fade or change at all even after years of sitting.
