I’m hesitant to admit, I left my Fanny pack on the BTS train one time and walked off the train. About 10 seconds later a woman ran up to me and gave me the Fanny pack. The train doors shut and she had to wait for the next train. I offered to give her some money and she refused. On another occasion I left my new IPhone on a bench at a bus station. Got on the bus to leave and shortly after a man started waving at me through the window and a lady came on the bus to give me my phone. Happened to me again at a restaurant when I left my Fanny pack on the seat, paid the bill and walked out. 30 seconds later a lady ran up to me to give me my Fanny pack. At the expense of admitting I must be getting old and forgetful, I agree with you how honest Thai people are in my experience.

It’s complicated. A good Thai friend has been straight talking and truthful. When she said she would come to the US to work, and build a house in Thailand, I didn’t believe it. But she actually followed through on all of it. Another Thai gal told me she would open her own nail salon in Thailand, and she did it. But what she kept secret from me for two years was that she was also doing special services for men to supplement her income. She finally told me the truth about it and asked if I could send money. I had to let her go. Too many emotional problems with women who choose that path, sadly.

Hi Rob, to all your viewers I want to say this is good stuff. I have probably a bit more 1:53 experienced than the average foreigner coming over to Thailand for the first time and for all your viewers who are not experienced the information you buy here is invaluable.

I’ve experienced so many acts of kindness in Bangkok. Lady running after me to return my forgotten umbrella. Getting help to pick me up off the sidewalk when I tripped and fell. Love Thai people.

Never apologizes for motorcycle content. I have 2 bikes, one with a helmet lock and one without, but rarely use the lock or carry my helmet unless I park in a really sketchy neighborhood. Though, I have wondered about this sort of thing in Thailand in general and Pattaya more specifically. People here (the NYC area) ask about why I leave my helmets on my bike when parked, and I point out that I have been sweating it for 10s of hours if not more and during the summer it is actually saturated with my sweat. Who in their right mind is going to steal it? Also, there are foreign biker gangs in Thailand? I have never heard this before. Also, I am surprised to hear you say it is easy to work in Thailand as a farang. Many youtubers have stated the opposite.

I don’t go out of my way thanking him or anything, because I think that’s silly since it is her land, and I am making no attempt to put it in my name in any way, shape or form for reasons to talk about on the channel and in my new book.

Very interesting video, Robb. About the honest prices you get, I was wondering if that had anything to do with the fact that you speak Thai and/or you are NOT living in the city like Bangkok? Not trying to be a dick but you know what I mean, right? I am married to a Thai (living in Pattaya) and my wife does all the talking so I never get scammed but I have a feeling that if I were single and not speaking any Thai, my experience could be very different. Another thing is that since even the government does dual prices (based on the assumption that all foreigners make much more money, it wouldn't necessarily be a sin?), it could be justification to charge foreigners more in a more casual way. It sucks but I can understand it to a certain extent.

There are free national parks for citizens and we have to pay. Some guys get all angry about that but I think that’s fine. I have never seen a faring price but I don’t know. I’m sure it happens. Ina spot with tons of tourists I wouldn’t think less of them if they did that. They are poor.

  • @RobFomenko

I think it's ridiculous that Western visitors to Thailand would get upset about a policy like that. It's their country and it's a poor country. They need the foreign currency. Westerners have the ability to pay a few extra Thai baht to get into a park or museum. Instead of getting angry about it. Maybe they should just feel grateful of where they are. But that's just my opinion. You do you. Honestly. I don't have a huge amount of experience with it in Thailand, but I do have a couple stories. I was walking on the BTS, had a little man bag for my phone and paper money. I opened it to pay for the train ride, but forgot to shut it. A bunch of bills were sticking out and a man came up to me and tapped me on the shoulder and told me that I was about to lose all money. Now I'm not saying that wouldn't happen in the US or in Europe, but it was clear to me that Thailand was different. Sitting in a bar with some ladies that I met. It's always hard to tell if somebody is being honest with you or not. I mean you can only tell by their words, right? Not by what they're thinking? And yet right then and there I felt that we were on a level playing Field. I was being honest with them and they were being honest with me. As far as I can tell. It really helped ground me to the fact that I was in a different place, one that I really liked. But I also think that it takes time for anyone to feel close enough to be honest, even in Thailand. The biggest thing I was impressed with in Bangkok was how nobody was getting crazy over the traffic. In the US. People would have been outside their cars, shouting and yelling. Maybe even brandishing weapons. In Thailand it's smooth as silk for them. For me sitting in the back of the grab it was chaos unfolding. And yet it never did. Truly remarkable to me. Scamming. Lying. Same same. There is no perfect place. There is no perfect person. I think if you go through life with your eyes open and your heart open you will not be often disappointed. That's what I'm trying to do. It's not always easy and it's not always fruitful. But it is a path one that I'm on and I like it.

You wrong about what they accept for teaching in Thailand as far as qualifications go. Most small schools out in the country may hire you but it is not for long. No way immigration will allow it. Especially, the work permit. You have to meet certain requirements for sure! Get your facts in order please! You are just making it harder for those who want to stay in Thailand.

Violence and drugging and rape not that uncommon in super tourist areas so be careful in bars with open drinks and such, but compare the traffic in Bangkok to the traffic in New York City. I don’t rarely hear anyone use the horn here despite the amount of congestion and drivers are not rude to each other like they are That I have seen

I found reading the transcript was a better way to get the gist of what he's saying. I would like to see a recap at the end that goes over the main points. Otherwise I have to go back and review. But what he's talking about is important to me as I'm soon to be in Thailand as a retiree. If it's just for entertainment purposes, there's better channels.

Thailand is about 20-30% more than the Philippines for cost of living. For you that cost is immaterial. You will be twice as wealthy as the best definition of rich here I’ve ever heard. Generally about $2,700/ month. here is “rich”. Few expats seem to have that. I also discuss this at length in my book if you want more details.
