I'm pretty sure A Silent Voice can't qualify for the Oscars as it wasn't shown in L.A. for 3 weeks(I think that was the requirement). The Oscars are Hollywood-exclusive content, barely anything outside of that can win. I remember what a big deal was Javier Bardem getting nominated for Biufiful which was a Spanish film NOT made in Hollywood. And still if he wasn't famous already he wouldn't get any attention. We should care about the Oscars but not making them the most important movie event.

I don't find any of the movies nominated for the 2009 Oscars phenomenal, something that'll be remembered. Dark Knight deserved to get nominated at least, if not win. Personally, I think the Academy thought it was beneath their dignity to nominate a movie which has a grown up man dressed as a bat, stalking dark alleyways at night.

I think you're right, but comic book movies were viewed differently back then. There were great ones (think X2 or Spider-man 2), but it was TDK who really made people take comic book movies seriously. It was a landmark, and it's still the gold standard, influencing lots of blockbusters every year (although not one reached the same heights). It deserved to win best picture, but yeah, the academy wasn't ready.

I really hope they show this on the big screen at the Oscars 😂

I have to admit, after actually seeing Wonder Woman, I could not understand why critics gave it as good reviews as they did. It wasn't a great movie, at all. The acting was meh, the plot was thin, and the final half of the movie was just silly. Even the parts that were supposed to be serious were just... stupidly silly. Arch typical villain laughter, 'oh hey, I was the bad guy all along', 'oh hey, I was a god all along', 'oh hey YOU were a god all along', bad fight scenes... The list goes on. Honestly, to me, Wonder Woman was roughly on the level of Suicide Squad. Maybe ever so slightly better, but that's purely because of Suicide Squad's villain, honestly. The characters - especially Deadshot and Killer Croc - are way more interesting, with way more interesting backstories.

I've watched about 100 of these, so no, I can't pinpoint exactly which one it was. Try the original Thor, or The Avengers, or Thor The Dark World honest trailers. If they're not in there, I'm not sure where they are.

Hurry Calls Yes i have seen this movie and no it wasnt to hate, what happened was my abject disappointment. To answer your questions: 1: rachel and deckard's meeting being arranged by some grand design of Tyrell Corp for the purpose of them breeding was not established in Blade Runner. That's retrospective continuity. 2. Nobody evolves as a character, nobody has a seeming arc of change. Gosling's character doesn't change, neither does Deckard or any other character. 3 Joy adds nothing to the plot. She's not a plot device, nor a McGuffin. She doesn't provide any insight or advice to the main character. There's the whole incorporealness of form, and her suposed "love" at the end rings holo (yes that's a pun) She's also the reason why the movie is 30 mins too long - cut her out and 2049 would move at the pace of the original. Hopefully these further explain my position, and set me apart from the mere trolls.

The Shape of Water SPOILERS AHEAD (Because it’s NOT bestiality, and several people have asked). Again, SPOILERS. He’s actually an elemental god. She’s actually related, as we find out at the end those scars are gills. That’s why she was silent the whole time - she was a “fish out of water”. There are hints of this throughout the film (eg, that shot of her on the bus, has her moving water droplets THROUGH THE OTHER SIDE of the glass).

no actually there was huge outcry over two great animated films not getting nominations "Your name" and "a silent voice". Your name is baffling in particular because it the popularity it has AND critical acclaim with a 97% rotten tomato score (out of 100 reviews)

The stupid thing is that there were ten slots but only nine on the shortlist. I would have been fine if Blade Runner 2049 got the tenth slot but neither that nor Logan were on the shortlist. It feels deliberate on the Academy's part, as we know Logan won't win the screenplay award. Comic book films will be shafted once again.
