One thing I noticed from the Rise of the Beasts trailer is that the robot on robot fights don't look like two junkyards smashing into each other like they did in the Bay movies. Hope that's a good sign to actually be able to get what the eff is going on in a Transformers movie...

This movie is my childhood! I own the soundtrack and I’ve rewatched it at least once a year to the point where I practically have the whole thing memorized. I know it was just a ploy to sell toys, but considering the other kids movies from the 80s, this one still rocks!!

A "ploy" would be if they advertised a movie and you turned up and it was just episodes from the TV show mashed together. A ploy doesn't have such effort and heart put into it.

I’m convinced that the censors only gave it a PG rating because they didn’t realize that the target audience of 6-10-year-olds knew the names and personalities of every robot who gets violently murdered in the First Act “war is hell” sequence.

The original Transformers series, GI Joe, Voltron, Thundercats and Muppet Babies are some of my earliest childhood favorite cartoons. Going into middle school in the mid 90's, Pirates of Dark Water, Beast Wars, Reboot, Swat Cats and the Samurai Pizza cats were my go-to, must see TV shows.

Easy mistake. He was almost unrecognizable in the robot makeup. The prosthetics and other practical effects were amazing.

Thats what I heard and it would make sense given the impact of Optimus Primes death.

Don't tease me with the prospect of a Street Sharks movie with such a perfect lead and director!

The TF movie script did a pretty good job of introducing us to a bunch of new characters, getting us to like them sufficiently that we worried when they were in danger and got us wanting to see more of them. See also Aliens for this. A lot of movies can't even manage that.

When I was a kid, your measurement of cool was directly related to which Transformers you owned. I was cool until Trypticon came out. Haven't been cool since. Also in the comic books, Shockwave and the Dinobots are around during prehistoric earth. I remember when Poltergeist was rated R.

I also watched this about the same time this Honest Trailer came out. I thought it was fun. The pacing is absolutely relentless, to the point of being overwhelming at times, but the action and animation are fun, and the story works even for someone who is only a casual Transformers fan like me.

People forget the relentless pacing is a hallmark of a good adventure movie. Star Wars V, considered the best to most fans, is a good example

The timeline of us having that kind of tech is not ridiculous when you consider that the Autobots almost certainly shared technology with Earth. Not to mention, you are dealing with the transformers themselves and the people around them so from that perspective, it's probably not representative of the rest of the planet either. These people are on the cutting edge of technology which has had 20 years to incorporate with Earth society.

Dudes said they couldn't name the transformers, and then starts name dropping transformers.

I just want to clarify that when I said I thought I'd post and run my comment up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes I honestly wasn't trying to sound entitled and/or undermine anyone. It was honestly just my way of saying that comment is for anyone who feels like responding to it or no one at all. Thank for reading my thoughts here. and previously. Appreciated. I’m way too late on this but the reason they needed it to be PG was because in the 80’s G rated films only got matinee showings. They needed the ratings to get more potential viewings

He went to work for D&D Beyond, which got bought by WotC last year, and thus he now works for Hasbro. Who might, say, sic the Pinkertons onr him if he _publicly_ satirized Hasbro's IP.

I thought I'd post this comment and just see if anyone salutes. Always a pleasure watching the hosts do this commentary aftershow. There is one thing I have always wondered about The Transformers. Are they a Japanese toyline or television show that was repurposed for the U.S. cartoon show the way The Mighty Morphing Power Rangers were? Or is this not the case?

The original Transformers toys were from various Japanese toy lines and were licensed by Hasbro to be sold under the name Transformers. The show was made in Japan, but it was original and always intended to be for Transformers. It wasn't until this movie that some toys were made specifically to be Transformers like Hot Rod and Galvatron. Hope this helps

What eighties franchise would I like to see revived? Hands down it would be "Robotech", but that franchise is in such a messy property rights hell that my hopes may never be fulfilled on that one.

How do you not know the difference between the Autobots led by Optimus Prime and the Decepticons led by Megatron? All Bots are led by Optimus and the Cons are led by Megatron? Go back and was was the pilot episodes more than meets the eye parts 1 2& 3

Naw, you gotta let Jon Bailey write his own Honest Trailer for this. He's been part of the Transformers fandom ever since there was one, he knows better than some of the jokes you had him say. "The Touch" was only in this movie twice, "Dare" is not "The Touch".

For me, please show I have the touch and I have the power and do Ski School 1 and 2.

I think transformers is better in animation and comic because of IDW comic and transformers animated

Of course Hollywood could do a faithful live action film exclusively about transforming robots. Bayformers ain't it.

Whoever that old guy is sucks at watching movies because he always forgets what he watched. Regardless good or bad movie, that's what he does.
