    Wait, how DOES Chi work...? I mean, in real life supernatural powers don't actually exist, so is it just learning to concentrate really hard so you're extremely focused...?

  • @vikkiluo1419

    @vikkiluo1419

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@LoganBluth I think Chi is much more about life energy, so its more like enhancing one's natural powers (at least in the irl sense) so like channeling chi is more connected with martial arts and being able to control stamina/energy (proper conservation of stamina and correct application of force) to maximalize your body's impact while minimizing energy used. Everyone is supposed to have chi, but like how untrained athletes waste a lot of energy and time with unprecise moves and bad form/posture, most people waste chi because they don't focus on where they use their energy. Obviously, once we get into legends and folklore and gods and stuff chi gets a lot more magical, as they enhance magical powers then instead of physical, but it is definitely a concept that exists irl for martial arts, and my teachers would reference it when I took martial arts classes a couple of years ago lol.

While studios (and by extension, the academy) want want to reward movies that empower women, there's a backlash when they go so far as to challenge the system or status quo, the way Thelma and Louise did. The original Mulan character is very complex. From the opening we know that she's a square peg trying to fit in a round hole. She actually was okay with the arranged marriage. It was the way she could bring honor to her family and herself. That's why the ending is so great. She went from being a failure of a bride to the honorable warrior and savior of all. And it didn't matter because her father who she risked her life in saving was happy she came back This Mulan is just naturally gifted. There's nothing that a human woman in real world could achieve. This doesn't dig into me as much beauty and the beast did (it is one of my favorite disney movies and I love Belle.)

My sister just had one reply to all that... "Guys, it's a Disney movie." And she's right, we were expecting actual narrative logic to the movie or a decent bad guy or you know, the protagonist not to be a complete Mary Sue. But my sister is right. It's just a Disney money grab movie that goes through the motions of justifying it's existence. Our expectations should have been rock bottom... All these stupid remakes do is make me really really miss the old classic animated movies. Oh well, I guess I'm just going to have to wait for the live action remake of Toy Stories 1 through 4 now.

    I didn’t watch this. When Mulan was first announced, I was super excited. I am fine without songs or Mushu/Shang/Cricket. However I was curious about the actual movie and watched a bunch of spoiler reviews and it’s a turn off. The changing of the original story of going in her father’s place (I mean it is still there but not as important or seems to be a reason to prove herself) and becoming a person with super human powers is strange. Honestly it seems like this Disney team was trying to target China but without understanding what an audience in China is looking for, and missing the mark for non-China audience. It just seems like this is trying to be a woman-empowering-superhero-with-super-human-power movie rather than what made the movie/story charming in the first place..

    anyone else getting a ton of commercials? i dont mind some at the beginning and some at the end, but when its every 3-4 minutes i get a pair of commercials thats a bit much and makes me want to end the video early. And yes i know SJU has no control over it but that is why i am asking to see if its just me or is youtube finally gone to far?

    Yeah - 30 dollars AND your monthly membership just to see it early - seriously a dumb idea. Like it should have been 30 dollars if your not a member, or lets say 12 for members - encouraging people to sign up even if just for a month in which maybe, they watch other things and opt to keep it or forget to cancel it and making it the usual 20 dollars most on demand movies seem to be basically.
