f (x) and SHINee are the experimental groups of the sm that means their songs are totally different from what is usually in kpop, this song talks about the sewol ferry tragedy, it's a criticism of how the authorities and the captain handled the disaster, honestly shows that SM groups are not afraid to show their discontent through their music

F(x) is one of those groups with the most potential to become super successful, but turned out to be most mistreated by the company. Glad to see you exploring them 👍.

This song was actually a direct critique of the sewol ferry tragedy. They're telling us in a sarcastic/ironic manner to listen to the authorities and that will keep you safe, when that is ultimately what brought on the horrible tragedy due to the authorities major negligence in saving those on board. It's honestly a wonderful song and I respect SM for making such a stand against the government and the authorities that caused this tragedy to happen.

I remember reading the news as it was happening. I was in my high school library and just felt surreal that it was happening since the victims were around my age and everyone was confused on why and how it was happening in the first place.

*Sorry but this really isn't the meaning of Red Light, they cleared that up in the end. The korean producer for this song development only said that after the ferry disaster had taken place, some months after Red Light album was released. The in house producer had left, he said this to get some clout and guess try to give f(x) a bad name. This album, and song in particular was in production way before the sewol ferry disaster. The lyrics in the song have no relation to ferrys, the sea or sinking. Its really just a stretch at this point from the lyricist, producer and news outlets. If you read the korean you will know the true meaning. SM ent had also released a statement at that time during promotion to clear up the skewed meaning. ^^*

this is not true. sm never confirmed this. their songs are made months, even years in advance, and the time frame was too short for it to be a direct criticism of the event. it's merely a coincidence that the song's lyrics had a slight relevance to it. celebrities/entertainment companies in korea for the most part are the last group of people who will call out the government.

I would even say SM has continued with that structure because I find EXO and Red Velvet very similar with their versatility and harmonies (tho I could just be equating them because they are my favorite bg and gg). And then NCT and aespa. (and I just want to clarify that by mentioning versatility and harmonies in regard to EXO and Red Velvet, I'm not saying those are not elements of other groups, especially under SM. Those are just traits I find very prominent for them.)

before red velvet FX was Sm's main experimental group they did all kind of music styles

SHINee supported F(X) above everyone else because F(X) was their sister group and they were supposed to be the female version of SHINee. So everything about the two groups was supposed to mirror each other. They were so close because F(X) was created to have the same dynamic as SHINee. Each of the members of both groups were very similar, with similar roles and personalities. For example, Onew and Victoria were the leaders and they both had more of that mature, gentle personality; Jonghyun and Luna were vocal powerhouses that had similar traits; Minho and Amber were the main rappers, but they are also amazing vocalists and contributed just as much vocally to their groups, plus they had similar personalities; Key and Krystal have that sassy personality and had similar roles in their groups; and Taemin and Sulli were definitely the babies of their groups and had similar quiet and shy personalities, including that they both followed almost the same path as trainees -- i.e. they started young and debuted young. That's why they got along so well because they were so much alike. They understood each other and were family.

Some information: F(x) as you know debuted in 2009. They were known for being the experimental group of SM. So VERY different sounds and songs for a kpop girl group at the time. There are 5 members in the group; Krystal, Amber, Victoria, Luna and Sulli. We lost our beautiful angel Sulli in 2019

they were called as shinee’s sibling group coz both groups experiment a lot with different genres and they are also very close irl, I guess it’s normal coz they trained together and only shinee and f(x) debuted out of all the trainees during their time. It’s sad that SM wasted their group. I got to know shinee through them coz I stanned them before I became a shawol. They have good songs hoping to see more reactions about them ^^

YEESSSS SHINee's sister contemporary group!!! Thank you, Ivy!! My girls never got the recognition they so well deserve. Just as they were reaching wider recognition a other SM gg came along and SM's focus shifted entirely. I'll never forgive SM for that, among...other things. A lot of the other group's sound was....very similar, and for many of us their early songs were straight up f(X) songs. There was some bad blood amongst fans for Reasons. All members are soloista, although both Krystal and Victoria are focusing on their acting careers. Luna and Amber are still pursuing solo singing careers. Sulli was an actress and singer after leavong the group. You can see her with SHINee's Minho in drama To The Beautiful You (Minho is a much better actor tham this drama suggests). I hope you react to more f(X), as like SHINee, no one else sounds like them. 🙂

I'm not a fan of fx but I used to watch amber from fx said that there was a reason why they cannot make a comeback. As you know they already famous and most of them have individual career and to re-comeback they need to reschedule their schedule with sm schedule. But I agree that it seems like they are the forgotten one in sm and I think they are the experimental group (but the project didnt get too much attention like they thought so they cancel the project ). And I think you should not put blame on other group in sm tho . Its not their fault .

For example just take JYP with Miss A.. they were one of the best fractions of 2nd gen Kpop.. But somehow down the road JYP started seeing Suzy as a cash cow and forgot the rest of the members who were way more talented in singing than Suzy... And with Twice gaining all the SNS fame, it was just like a trump card to put away Miss A for good, once and for all.... But none of that was really Twice's fault too 🤷🏻‍♂️ It's all just their labels' fault for seeing the idols only as cash cows

Their International success might be debatable BUT their domestic success is NOT. They were in the forefront of second gen in a way. Like we all know, 2nd gen was crazy in terms of legendary girl groups produced. Despite that, they still gained a lot of a fame domestically through, NU ABO. But I agree that compared to what they deserved (like Girls Generation kind of deserve fame), their company didnt utilise their success well. But yeah, let's not forget how they blew up SKOR with ther concepts. Their footprints are still there. Red Velvet's experimental side came from them. And it's like a hidden info between MeU's that some of F(x) scratch songs were given to RV

f(x) is one of the iconic groups in Kpop industry. They're the group who I respected so much because of how amazing they are. Not all people will like f(x) sound because of how experimental they are but I can confidently say that they're one of the greatest of Kpop and they are ahead of their time. If it is possible, I really hope that they will return as a group soon.

Krytal is super talented and she even knows figure ice skating. Her performance in a competition were just impressive.

She was soo young at the time as well... I think 16 or 18? I feel she's naturally gifted physically. Even on the athletic TV shows, you can see shes a very fast runner.

The first time I heard F(x) was just so unbelievable for me, their music is so different from others groups. At the first time I'm very confused about that but now I really love all their songs. They're so amazing 🤩. Thanks for your reaction ☺️.

f(x) is my second favorite after Red Velvet, they have so many awesome songs. And they were not afraid to experiment, I admire them. Also the bridges in their songs are filled with crazy good vocals and Luna is probably my favorite female vocalist.

This two group is contemporary group for concept, they always try every genre, SM make SHINee n F(x) just like a real twin, they have 5 members, contemporary group, Jonghyun n Luna vocal really awesome!!! Taemin really close with Krystal before, amber n minho really good together, Sulli, Minho, Jonghyun really close to each other , Even Key still support Amber to go out from SM , and dont forget our strong leader Onew n Victoria. F(X) are the female version of SHINee, so like SHINee, F(X)'s concept is all about being very experimental with their sound and style. And "Red Light" is one of the best examples of that. F(X) is always coming out with something that has never been seen or heard before. They are the girl group who is always one step ahead, who is always paving their own path in the Kpop industry. Nothing they ever do will be expected or simple, it's always meant to push boundaries. And their sound and style can never really be defined, because it's always changing.

They are so versatile and fun, I hope you get to react to their discography and live stages. They aren’t really NCT female counterparts, they are more SHINee’s sibling group. You got to react to their 4 walls (their lives are a must too- it showcases the choreography), All Mine, Hot Summer, and their albums are solid gold. Unfortunately, SM didn’t promote and managed them well so they ended up leaving the company. They deserve so much more!

I've been literally SO addicted to the Red Light era. Right up my alley🙌 and it's still one of my favorite videos of all time. SM had a dark phase back then (style wise). Red light and Taemin's Danger are both from 2014.

The concept of Red Light was so shocking when it first came out because no one- especially not girl groups- had done anything like it. All of f(x)'s music was experimental. Their lyrics were always riddle like and they added quite a bit of quirkiness and uniqueness to the music scene. They were the little sister group to SHINee and literally the little sister group to SNSD because Krystal is Jessica's little sister. ^_^ I miss them so much and wish they were treated better by SM...

f(x) was known for making really good albums. For example their second album Pink Tape was on fuse’s list “41 best album of 2013”. At that time, kpop groups were not even considered in western end year music lists. But f(x) managed to do that. red light and 4walls also were well received by critics.

f(x) has one of the most interesting discography in the whole kpop if not, one of the best. They are so unique.

Oh I love f(x) so much!! I'm a huge SHINee fan and them and f(x) are my favorite groups and I struggle a lot to find another ones that make me feel all the feelings that I have while listening their music and watching them live or their music videos. It's kinda safe saying that SHINee and f(x) are the most experimental groups of SM and I find that very true because I enjoy them equally. Thanks for this reaction! I hope you can listen to 4 Walls by f(x) it's a true masterpiece, a song that is sister of SHINee's View (told by the composers themselves). This music video reminds me a lot about the book 1984, a society ruled by an authoritarian government that brainwash people with it discourse (the scene where a lot of "people" are watching that man on the screen) and the girls seem like a group of rebels fighting against it. The lyrics make sense with that interpretation too. A producer from SM said that is about the sewol ferry tragedy... But I like mantain my own perspective too. Anyways is one of my favorites Kpop MVs, the aesthetics are awesome as well as the message.

On another note I highly recommend you listen to Galaxy by Ladies' Code it's a beautiful song and tribute to the 2 lost members, Rise and EunB (RIP). The song itself is amazing and really didn't get the recognition it deserved, I really think you would enjoy it!

the blonde one is krystal she's the younger sister of jessica from snsd and they're kind of the iconic kpop siblings since i can remember

f(x) was known as possibly the biggest and best experimental girl group that (in my opinion) never had a bad comeback until Red Velvet come into the works and debuted. Often they're referred when talking about SM and their shortcomings since everyone saw how much potential the group had but since SM is more interested in their boy groups, or at least they were like that back then, f(x) never reached their full potential. They don't even have a lightstick and they had exactly one concert and that was after a member had left the group. To be honest, for me it's hard to listen to any of their songs now because of all I've said and due to what happened with Sulli.

If I remember correctly, the news articles that came out prior to f(x)’s debut referred to them as SHINee’s sister group or something along the line.

Ah... my ult group, my obsession, my love f(x).. There's no one like them, they really ahead of time. Pink tape still the best album to me. I love them and will always love f(x). I think the trajectory towards experimental music get stronger every new group from SM. The first group would be shinee, and then f(x), redvelvet, NCT, and now aespa.
