    I used silk coloures- but you have to be careful. After that i sewed little Swarovski cristals on it because i hate glitter- This stuff is everywhere and i already had it in my eyes 😖 this new coloures- are surely good, but i want buy them. Silk coloures you can mix with each other. But sometimes accidently comes coloures inside of the shoe- but no one can see when you wear them;-)

    Hi Claudia I love you, you’re such an inspiration and I look up to you. I’m ten years old and when I grow up I want to be in the royal ballet. My friends and family know me as someone to never EVER give up, I always give 100% in my dancing and I dance 7 hours a week every week at Australian dance and talent centre. I know you probably won’t read this but it’s my birthday soon and it would make my day.💕

    Hi Claudia! I really need your advice. People always say that if you use your muscles the correct way, train the amount you're supposed to train and eat healthy etc, your body will look like a dancer's body. But what if it's something you can't do anything about it? I've got incredibly short legs and such a long back, and it's something I struggle with everyday. I always wanted to be a professional dancer, but lately I've just kind of given up on that. I tried to audition for ballet schools and the answers I got were always that I have good enough technique etc but I've got the wrong body. I'd still want to keep on dancing, even though I'll never be able to do it professionally, but it's so hard to go to class and look in the mirror, only to see a body with features that people would never want. I hate looking in the mirror and realising that nothing looks good just because of my body. I'm just so lost with the whole thing, I would stil like to dance but it breaks my heart that no matter what, I'll never be able to do it as a profession and my dancing will never look as beautiful just because of my body. I hope this makes sense xx

    hballerina What always helped me was to watch ballerinas from the last generations of ballet, who weren't all Svetlana Zakharova, long legged arched feet flat stomach ballet mutant people. Maya Plisetskaya was one of the most amazing ballerinas ever and she had short, bent legs.

  • @mirjamw7581

    @mirjamw7581

    hballerina hey :-) I just wanted to tell you that i can really relate to what you are saying and I am sorry you are feeling this way. I think your issue is not only about ballet, but even more about personality and life experience as a whole. I have been trying to fit in for so long, too. I have spent hours, even days on bashing myself until I could not bare the sight of me in the mirror anymore. Sometimes we are trying so hard, but as you say, there are things we cannot control. If you really have given everything you can give and it has not worked out yet, then maybe this is a sign for you. It is just like Claudia always says in her videos: Everything happens for a reason. Even those of your features that you call flaws are there for a beautiful reason. I know how huge and suffocating this pressure to fit in can be. The truth is, however, that some people are not meant to fit in, but to stand out. This world would not be as beautiful and versatile and blossoming as it is, if all of us looked the same, if all had the 'perfect ballerina body'. If we were all the same kind of perfect, we would be so exchangeable that there would be nothing interesting about us. This is why in ballet there is so much pressure on the dancers. Even those who seem to be flawless could at some point be replaced by the next ballerina in line. But the thing is that you can stand out even if and just because you might not fit in the way people expect. Take what you see as flaws and make something beautiful out of them. You could be the one people remember. And if you come to find, that ballet might not be the right world for you to shine in anymore, then there will be a different world for you to fully spread your wings and fly. Have you ever thought of dancing in a hospital or in an old people‘s home? If I were a child in a children‘s home, I would love to see a girl coming over and dancing and I would never think that she might not have the ,right lines‘ or such stuff. Dancers are needed in far more places than just dance companies. Do not allow anyone to spoil your passion about ballet, not even yourself. I think dreams are very important and we should never give up on dreams, but the problem is that sometimes we do not see clearly what we really dream of. Sometimes we are looking in the wrong places to find what we are longing for. If it comes to me, I believe that just as important as being a dancer is to be happy, content and confident with myself. Just as Claudia said quite similarly in some of her videos: Ballet can sometimes make you feel like there was no other important thing in the whole wide world. We tend to forget that there is so much more. You are so much more than just a dancer. You are a child to your parents, a friend to your friends and you could be a sunshine to anyone you meet. Whether your body does fit into somebody‘s expectations or not does not define you as a whole personality. And there is no need of feeling ashamed of who you are. There is a ton of different possibilities waiting ahead of you. If you listen to your heart and trust in what makes you feel great, I am sure you will find your perfect place to be. Allow yourself to feel like a treasure, because if you feel like a treasure you are one and if it feels like dancing, you are dancing.

    hballerina, sweetheart please PLEASE don't ever be discouraged from dancing, especially for such a superficial reason. Yes, many American (and European) ballet companies look for the Balanchine body type but not all of them do. You'd be surprised how many are open to a variety of different types of dancers. Research it! It seems like your technique is perfectly fine and that probably means that you are a versatile dancer. If you truly find no luck in the ballet world (but I honestly think you will), open your options to other forms of dance - modern, jazz, theater, etc. The dance world is HUGE!!!!!! There is a niche for you. I promise. And if allllllllllllll else fails, you just go ahead and start your own company, girl! Hire other dancers who also don't fit the traditional ballet body type. You'll be a trailblazer and an INSPIRATION! I'll even donate to your company. Come back and find me. You can do this. But don't ever stop dancing ❤

I stopped dancing/doing gymnastics when I was in middle school and then in high school I got hurt but I wanna start dancing and doing gymnastics but I’m super self-conscious about starting again in front of people because of my injury and a few other recently discovered health problems

    I would start out doing some gentle stretching and strengthening exercises. I would visit the gym with a casual pass ($20-40) + do some work there. Be careful about gymnastics. I would perhaps do some beginner adult ballet classes. The BASICS are always important. It does not matter how long you have been dancing or at what level. - lucille bennett

    I know I am late but I must say something. I am not a ballet dancer, but I did irish step dancing since 2003 and I stopped 2016. My teacher, if you saw her doing practice, was the devil. She would hit us, yell, scream, throw shoes, someties she would just walk out. We would do a number that is 5 minutes until the end and she would turn us back to the beginning because in the first seconds someone was not synced with the others. We sometimes stayed in the studio for up to 10 hours just doing one number, perfecting it. But we loved it afterwards. She was and still is our best friend. We can always turn up to her and she cared for us like we are her own children. Now that I have retired from dancing I am doing swimming and my coach is the nicest person ever, he doesn't yell, doesn't trow shoes at you, nothing, and I honestly miss that push. Honestly with the mean teachers, if they put that energy in a certain way, this can help you more.

    Hi Claudia! Great video as always! I am 13 and jumps seem to be the weakest part of my class. I was wondering if you could do a video on how to strengthen your jumps Thank you for you videos so far and they have definitely helped me prepare for my exam which is happening this coming Tuesday. 😀

    Hi Claudia! I was wondering if you could do a video for dancers starting to go on pointe who can’t quite get over their pointe shoe box all the way yet. I am a beginner on pointe and I am still having trouble getting over my pointe shoes, and I don’t know what I should do and why I can’t get over the box. I love you and your videos so much!! Thank you for posting!

    I am very fortunate to find this video. I started ballet when I was 3 years old and continued up until I was around 13 or 14. The women in my family have a history of maturing quite early so I was developing curves much earlier than the other girls. Ballet was my life and I had reached the stage where I was to be moved to pre-pointe classes where they prepare you to be on pointe. I was very excited. However, my teacher pulled me aside and said my shoulders were too board and my curves were too 'curvy' and I did not have the body cut out to be a good ballet dancer. I was crushed. I was at a very tender stage in my puberty years and ballet and school was all I had. I cried for months and finally decided to drop off of ballet and give it up. Her words really started my self esteem problems and I eventually had self-harming tendencies because of my body. I was mad about looking this way. Fast forward ten years and I am 23 and happy with my body. I never returned to ballet but I took up swimming with a coach that never talked about shapes. I do still find myself looking at old pictures and youtube videos (like this one) on ballet though and wonder how it would've been like if I stayed.

    Maybe you should go back. I actually just started at 17 and I do have a different body type than the others in the studio but usually adult classes are much more comfortable when it comes to body image.

    My dance teacher was known to everyone who didn’t have him as a teacher as scary or mean. When my class moved up a level, almost everyone was nervous. Turns out he is a great teacher. Strict, but mean, Funny, but not easy going. I have gained so much confidence from him (I don’t have the “dancers body”, very curvy and thick) and that is amazing
