    The review was great. I have 1033 miles on my '23 XR150 which I bought in April this year. Just wanted to let you know that I ride all the time at altitudes of 5000-6000 feet with absolutely no problem. You are dead on about this bike - the sweet spot for speed is between 35 and 55 mph and I ride mostly compressed clay roads at 45-50 mph with no problem getting up significant hills. I've done no modifications to the carburetor and it starts up just fine - perhaps that will change once I get into the later Fall and Winter months here in Colorado. My power seemed to "kick in" at about 600 miles and haven't noticed a significant change from then when I passed the 1000 mile mark. Regarding gas mileage I've tracked this closely and Im getting right at 100mpg with the way I ride this machine, so your 95 (without gear) is right on. Also wanted to thank you for your excellent maintenance videos so keep them coming. I also think this is a great all purpose bike if you do not need highway speeds. Small suggestion for you - if you are getting kicked around by the wind on your head, get an after market wind screen - works wonders for this bike!

    What an incredibly detailed and most importantly practical review. I'm from New York and recently got to ride the Dragon. What an incredible road. I was surprised how chill the scene was at Deals Gap. That entire area is fantastic for riding. Thanks for sharing I think the 150 will be a good seller for Honda.

    Interesting note about the power increase. Just got mine. Don’t get to ride it daily. I did have one silly fall on a slow speed U turn. And the only thing that broke on mine was also the mirror. I swapped out the front brake lever with an adjustable reach as I have small hands. Braking ability is kept. Adding hand guards and just received new dirt/adventure style foot pegs. There are ties for standing and I’ll feel a whole lot more secure having more substantial foot purchase. Thanks for your videos. I’m 5’1”. So I’m just comfortable with the seat height. I figure the more I ride the more comfortable I’ll feel on it.

    So I have 400 miles on my XR so far, and power delivery continues to increase a bit as breaking in occurs. I have a pretty bad vibration on mine at between 46-49 mph, when in 5th gear, and I'm learning from others that their bikes experience the same issue. Haven't heard any comments from you all, and since you have a pair of them, wondering if you felt this vibration in the upper gears while accelerating? Its backs off as soon as I let up, so thinking possibly the chain is vibrating, or perhaps its the crankshaft? I doubt whether these engines have a harmonic balancer, curious what your experiences have been? Appreciate the time and efforts you put into these vids!

  • @MishMashMoto

    @MishMashMoto

    Жыл бұрын

    Seams that most people’s are doing this. I have had many other bikes do this also. I think it is in the chain and sprockets under heavier chain loads. I have found you can reduce power to lessen it. I have also found that when I hit a hill that more throttle lessens it sometimes also. Downshifting also normally eliminates it (but not always).

    Yep mine does it too. If I let off the throttle and kick it back in, it goes away. Seems to be a specific RPM range for me. You will fill the vibration, then it goes away. I’ve also noticed it isn’t there if I’m rolling on the acceleration slowly.

    @@DSteel5408 The 150R is fairly different, water cooled, pretty much a 4 valve race bike engine. Would be fun in a XR150L frame but that would be a tough swap. I think a BBK or a crank upgrade to 230cc would be the realistic way to go for most people on the XR150L. I do hope Honda makes a XR230L at some point and figure they might….(the XR150L is basically the same bike as the old CRF230L was but with smaller wheels and a smaller 150cc engine). Dual sport opens up so many options when out exploring that you just can’t do on a street bike. There are many resources available where you can find off-road routes. You might look into that for your area, it may help you decide if it’s something you might be interested in. We enjoy seeing where the roads lead and have discovered many, unexpected joys in this type of riding. It opens up an entire new world and allows you to experience both! The bikes certainly are not as sexy as street bikes but they are big fun! The maintenance schedule after the initial 600 miles starts at 2500 miles and continues in 2500 mile increments except for the chain which is scheduled every 500 miles. The maintenance on this bike is simple, uses standard tools, and everything is easy to access. We are doing maintenance videos every step of the way on these bikes, check those out for more info and thanks for watching!

  • @MishMashMoto

    @MishMashMoto

    8 ай бұрын

    Our bikes do use a little oil but nothing I consider to be excessive. We add about 6-8 ounces of oil to each bike between oil changes. It’s probably just in the way they designed the breather system on this bike. I think it’s only an issue at higher RPM’s and not really a problem with the engine itself (engines have to “vent” or “breath”). It’s just not really a big issue to me so I have not experimented with changing the breather system on our bikes. It needs more vertical hose out of the crankcase though if someone wants to try it.

  • @MishMashMoto

    @MishMashMoto

    Жыл бұрын

    No, we have not experienced any vapor locking and we made some pretty serious and long climbs also. Some of these climbs were several minute long climbs at or near full power also. Since it is an air & oil cooled cylinder and head type engine it would be best not to put it in neutral and coast downhill after something like that. Just keep it in gear or maybe downshift and use some engine braking (keeps the rpm’s up). Hope this helps you.

    Did you guys trailer these bikes up there to do the, "dragon"..... either way it's quite a trip(800miles & back?) So I've had a theory about Honda bringing this bike into the United States ; Because it's well proven in both S.American -n- Asian Nations they didn't have to do too much to bring it outside of emissions & I think that's the muffler, intake box size, & that carb that you've done so much work on. My theory is only my opinion but b/c of the Amazon Bike craze & I think I heard you say you've bought or have some experience w/ one of those bikes, I really think Honda is competing heavily w/ that marketplace? For about $1000 more you're gonna get a bike that's proven & I've only researched the amazon type bikes enough to know I really had rather save my money for a Honda = reliability/craftsmanship & value is the biggest difference I saw w/o actually owning either. Everything I saw on the amazon stuff was lower quality, bolts/nuts backing out, and excessive vibrations. If you tested one of those out you can verify my thoughts on the Chinese made or don't worry bout that b/c I'm sold on the little Honda. You guys have got into a lot of the small personal things that make a difference from weight to seat comfort but you've got into the things Honda changed to bring it to our market. Air, gas, and muffler in how it affects the emissions. That is what I think Honda had to do in order to sell here in the US & everything else about the bike had long since been proven out. I think they saw all the bikes bought from amazon & went for that slice? I'd bet if I could research the Nations these are in we'd find that Chinese bikes invaded those markets? All that said, your wife nailed what I'm saying when she said that the Honda's are a viable option for the younger folks w/o much money & that they could get financing. IF I could choose a small bike, Yamaha xt225 is one I'd want but they pulled it long ago. It has a 6 speed transmission & I almost got one but the guy wanted too much. Well, if you guys are out riding this weekend, be safe & I'm off to look at some other videos about this bike ~ peace

    We rode our XR150L'S out there (and all the way up the Blue Ridge Parkway and back). I have not personally owned a Hawk or similar type Amazon bike. The quality of the Honda is better for sure (chain, sprockets, plastics, and such). It's a great bike, as was my XT225. BTW, if you do the 70mm big bore kit, you will have almost the exact same bore and stroke that the XT225 did.

    WoW, I lived in Virginia for 12 yrs & been all thru the Blue Ridge(Appalachian Mountains). It's a beautiful area as you two got to see in person & that is one long arse'd ride. I am shaking my head here, you can do the 800 miles in a day driving a car but I can see taking 3-4 days to stay on safe roads/routes(if there are any?)..... that's quite an undertaking & as you guys spoke here I know you have every bit of knowledge about the place & the bike ya'll used. You Been there Done that! So you had a XT225, I actually tried to buy one several years ago but he wanted too much. I liked the bike enough to get it & redo whatever just to make me feel secure & trust in the drive train. Personally I would never buy any amazon bikes but if ya did, get a big bottle of locktite & owners specs to make sure it's all good. A big bore kit, I', not surprised for as long as this bike has been around & for my tastes I'd probably want to use the original until I had a problem or got bored to the point I just did it? Plastics ; if I were to buy brand new, I might pull all my plastics off, wrap em' up, and store em' in a box to order another set. I know it sounds nutz & maybe it is to do this w/ a 150L but I've seen a couple of guys who pulled the new bike plastics off, put them up & bought replacement plastics that they added decals/color too them so that if they ever sold her they had the original plastics unscathed. I can see doing this on a "RR" bike more than a 150L but it's just a thought? We got some heavy weather ontop of us right now.... off to see what's coming. be safe/peace

    Several reasons actually. We have a lot of dirt and gravel in an area we spend a lot of time in, she wanted to start riding off-road again. The main other reasons were mainly economically driven. Low initial purchase cost, low fuel consumption, low maintenance cost, easy to work on. It’s physical size was a factor also. Easy to haul in conjunction with our RV camper also.

    It gives a taste of dirtbike capabilities with nice road handling. The stock tires are dangerous for offroading and I cringe when I see KZreadrs nearly eating it by roaming around in the dirt with the freaking stock rubbers

    Does ANYONE know how to shed some serious weight off this porker? At 282 lbs curb weight, it's just too stinkin' heavy for smaller wives/etc. My wife is 5'4" at 118-120 lbs and 282 lbs would be too much weight for her when turning around/etc. I'm amazed that somehow Honda managed to make this thing weigh 282 lbs!

    It would be hard to shed a lot of weight IMO.

    @@MishMashMoto That's my take, too. Such a shame, because the smaller rider is what that bike is aimed at, but in many cases, the smaller rider, especially ladies, can't handle the weight when doing slow speed maneuvers and they get it ever so slightly over center. Plop: Down it will go.
