I owned the 2014 model for 6 months before a Wallaby took me out at 90kmh.I loved the bike and was going to keep it but the bike was borderline write off. I did a few long trips and it has a stonking engine. I just bought the VFR1200 X simply based on that phenomenal engine.

My dad is 62 owns a 99 blackbird and a 2010 vfr1200. Both of em beasts in their own way. But vfr1200 feels so much better to ride than a hayabusa 08. Maybe not a 200hp easy to modify beast but in matters of materials and geometry Honda knows the game very well. I ride the vfr sometimes and i am 60kgs. Is an amazing machine and feels so flickable and light once it rolls. And as for parts is amazing how many parts of other honda bikes are the same. Honda and mass production i guess haha Great review man

Thanks for the review Mark. You're right, the 1200 did get a bit of kicking in the reviews when it came out, some of which was quite fair (19l tank on a sports-touring bike? 240kg+ unladen? Stuff-all electronics on Honda's newest and best?), some of which wasn't (much of it from grumpy old VFR faithfuls like myself). IMO Honda themselves contributed because, after years and countless "leaked" design concepts, they turned out a bike that - for all its merits - bore no relationship to previous VFRs. It was also bl00dy expensive new. But secondhand, it's a helluva good bike for the money. I'm not all that fond of the looks myself, but I rode my mate's 1200DCT and the stomp it's got in any gear is addictive. I think it's Honda's version of something like a BMW K1200/ K1300 - if Honda had sold it as that, I think it would've received much better reviews.

I honestly love the look of this bike in all colors but blue. Red being my favorite. The biggest problem I have with the VFR is the exhaust note. Sounds a little too much like a dirt bike. There is an exhaust system that does make the bike sound more like an F1 car, and it's the Raptor exhaust. Unfortunately, I can't find it here in the US. Great review, and thanks for posting!

If its a 2012 it does tell you consumption, ( and range countdown) albeit in miles per litre, but 10 Miles per litre is 45 mpg ish. However I couldn't see traction control switch so probably a 2011 registered late. Thanks for posting.

This is a sport touring bike, it's fairly light to and it was the first DCT bike so. Also it's an 09 bike it's fairly high option for the time Way more advanced than BMW K1300GT from the same year The front is the part I hate the most considering I have a 02 VFR800

Great sports tourer, when touring, range isn’t an issue 160 miles and 25 in reserve, drops a bit when doing the sport bit. 2014 dct with foot shift best quick shifter ever if you don’t like using the buttons, counter steering best way to flick it over. Took new tiger 1200 out and loved it but when back on vfr realised how good it is ,the vfr is over 10 kg heavier but lower to the ground. Good review Mark. Point to point very little can put the power down as well coming out the corners in the real world.

Love my black 2013. Tire pressure is so critical. I keep them 1 lb over suggested psi. I check before EVERY ride. I'm keeping the stock exhaust because I actually think it looks, performs and sounds great. 10100 miles so far. I'm in Florida. I scratched the fairings. Can't find OEM replacements. Aftermarket parts look a little fishy. Bike is fun around corners. Big bike, but low C.G. I'm a kind of bigger dude. 240 lbs. But is a deathtrap on cheap underinflated tires.

mark savage Hey man I know this is 6 years late =) but I am looking at this bike as one of some cheap alternatives to tour europe with. Did you ever find a small louder exhaust that worked with the panniers. I want something really short/stubby that sounds louder than yours in the video and that shows all of that gorgeous back wheel and that works with the panniers. Any tips ? Instrument is not that bad, you got a gear indicator and a fuel gague. Man there are still Ducati's 2023 that lacks a fuel gauge this Honda's instrument panel is luxurious

I do hope Honda come back for 2018 with the vfr1200f. Redesign with the same intentions for sport bike touring, give the Kawasaki ninja 1000 a run for its money. A real V-four with power and handling, and Honda quality

Watched this review and have to disagree with the comments. Yes there are faults with the bike, but what vehicle (cars, bikes, trucks and bicycles) is ever right for everyone? From the way this guy talks about corning I think that he needs to go on a couple of riding courses. I am only 5ft 6ins and slim built and have no troubles riding my VFR1200. Only problem I have is that the bike is to easy to ride fast. Love the grunt that it has.
