Honda Valkyrie Carbs DONE! Only one casualty! 1999 Valkyrie Interstate Video #2

Going through the Valkyrie carbs. Removal, teardown and inspection/testing. A lot of info crammed into a 30 min video. And yes, of course, I make one boneheaded mistake and scrap the #1 float.
I get all my Valk carb stuff from Red Eye Technical Services. redeye.ecrater.com

Saving all these! I have a Valkyrie in need of a carb rebuild. I think the old girl can be brought up to being good reliable transportation

What are you applying to the pipes/tubes that you’re reconnecting as the carbs go back together? Great video - saved it to my “Valkyrie” playlist - I have a ‘97 Valkyrie that I rebuilt the carbs on after I picked it up in 2020 (with 7K miles!). I plan on buying at least 3 more Valkyries, one for each of my sons, since they love mine so much! I figure I have quite a few carb rebuilds ahead of me, haha. Great resource, thanks for putting in the time to make such a thorough series of videos!

If the air cut valve wasn't working correctly, what kind of symptoms would you have while running the bike? I'm used to older vintage carbs that don't have that part, but I recency picked up an 07 Triumph Bonneville that seems to have one. I didn't touch it when I cleaned the carbs.

I’ll have to get back to you on that, I read what it’s purpose was but it’s been a minute as the saying goes and I frankly don’t remember. Something to do with the emissions package I think. Remind me if I forget.

@@MotoRestoFL I went a did a little research on the air cut off valve after watching your video. Seems the main thing it dose is cuts down on decel popping by controlling air flow on engine braking..

And I thought the single carb on a VTX is intimidating... 🤣

I have a 2000 Interstate and I’m saving these videos just in case a need to do the carb work on it. I ride it regularly so they should stay clean, but I’m curious how well they hold up overall. How well do they keep float bowl height, needle seal, sync etc. over time? I’ve only had it for a year so no long term experience with it.

According to the excellent material provided by Red Eye Rich, the Valk carbs are extremely hearty and will require little to no overhaul except for normal deterioration of o-rings and rubber parts that simply age out. It’s the sitting with gas in them that kills the carbs. As for floats being non-adjustable, I have replaced one like those here and there but on ATV’s and dirt bikes (dual sports) rather than street bikes. Red eye’s literature suggests the float needles rarely need replacement and doesn’t even sell them. Net sum, you shouldn’t have an issue in my limited experience, with things going bad due to being inherently problematic, but rubber components will eventually fail due to fuel exposure. It’s a mathematical certainty.

Thanks for confirmation. The previous owner had the carbs and the rest of the bike serviced by a guy that was apparently highly regarded by Valkyrie and Goldwing owners, that apparently had a mobile trailer and would travel all over states servicing/fixing these motorcycles. So hopefully he used quality materials and I’m set for a while 🤞
