    Great video! The only one I’ve found that talks about the metal “bushing” that goes inside the cover seal behind the large washer! I couldn’t figure that one out until watching this! Thank!

    Thanks for this comprehensive video. I just bought a 1984 200ES with locked rear brakes, I have a 1984 200S and I thought "Oh it will be the same" to fix that...took one look at the rear on the Big Red and freaked out. This brings my anxiety back in check much more doable, the rear looks exactly like this. Thanks again!

  • @lastmoto777

    @lastmoto777

    4 жыл бұрын

    You really need to try to keep the axle from budging while you are loosening those nuts. If you could possibly have someone sitting on the quad with all the brakes on , and let some air air out of the back tires so it wont roll so easily. When the quad moves at all that is where all your energy and torque is going instead of to the nut. Also If yoo have a pipe to put over the pipe wrench handle that would dramatically increase the torqe you wil be able to apply to the lock nuts. Anyway. That can be very difficult to break loose. Keep on working at it you will get it loose. Best of luck with it.

    At 10:12 you are putting in, what according to OEM diagrams calls, a dust seal. In my Clymer manual it refers to it as a collar/ring seal. On mine, it has that seal you are putting in but inside of that goes a metal collar, and over that is another smaller seal. I've looked everywhere but I only see a black seal like you insert around 10:12. But what about the metal collar and seal that goes inside of it?

    I would check the return spring on the arm that controls your brakes on the hub. is it returning the arm and disengaging the brake? Cable adjustments also. If that's not it remove the brake cables and if it is still locked up then it is something internal.

    On the left side there is 2 sealed bearings that act as a seal as well. If you buy a axle bearing kit you will get 3 bearings ( 2 left and 1 right )I cant remember if the seals and o-rings came in the kit or not. I bought the rest from partzilla there are 2 seals and 1 o-ring for the axle. I also bought a new right collar. Good luck with that.

    I recently just bought a 2001 trx250ex from a buddy and noticed a clicking noise coming from the rear when I pull/push it, I was wondering if that is the axle bearing that needs replaced. I don't know a lot about them so that may seem like a dumb question but all help would be appreciated. Thank you

  • @lastmoto777

    @lastmoto777

    8 жыл бұрын

    If the noise is only happening while braking it probably has something to do with the brakes. I would guess that the bearings may need to be replaced if it is a 2001. The sound is probably coming from the differential. Make sure there is oil in your rear. I take pretty good care of ours but there was Muddy water in it. Good luck with that.

  • @lastmoto777

    The left bearings tend to way outlast the right side.You may need a specialty tool to get them out.If you pound them out from the right side be careful to not damage your differential in the process. I did,nt replace mine because they were not that bad yet. (even though I had the new bearing from the kit) Anyway. Best of luck with it.

    Granitestateticketing Nh An air impact gun will take that right off. It is one of the tightest nuts on the whole quad . If you dont have a impact gun try to slip a pipe over the ratchet handle for extra leverage, with the tires on the ground to keep the axle from spinning . God luck with that.

    I just used a really small shaft flat head screwdriver ( like one for glasses) and squeezed it around the o-ring. I bought a new one because I thought it might get damaged during removal. Thanks for watching the video and Best of luck with it.

    What did/do you use to clean up the aluminum so well? My engine has that copper color now (brownish gold) and I don't know how to make her look new again. You managed to clean that brake assembly like new. Also, GREAT video.

    I don't remember but I may have sprayed with pb blaster to keep the dust down while using the wire wheel. Then spray clean with brake cleaner. ( messy job ). Anyway. Good luck with it.

    Yes. You can press the bearing in. That's actually the better way to do it. Freezing your bearing well just make it a little easier. But you probably don't have to. Good luck with that.

    It's funny you should say that. I have the exact same situation going on here. Our local dealership is pathetic at best. That's why I work on these myself. We still have a Suzuki a Polaris and a Yamaha left. They are all far easier to work on than the Honda.

    +lastmoto777 , this recon I got cheap with a 350d trade 06 250 es , fixed the es had a broken cog in the actuator, was smoking honed replaced rings, rebuilt carb. then decided because is for kids was doing brakes all around. axle bearings are fine but brake assembly caked I mean CAKED with dif fluid. 4 hours of cleaning replaced seals . got shoes on(found a trick but thanks for prior). put all back together wouldn't go completely on. then went on axle wouldn't move ... bearing bad. so another $35 later replace all that. then did your trick nope. this damn thing hates me ..lol friend has a press putting it in ..lol

    Update, got a dremel with a reinforced cutting disc and cutt the bearing sleeve in half, then tapped a few more times and it finally popped out. Putting the new bearing in was a beast also. I had to put some grease in there after heating it with a torch and freezing the bearing.

  • @lastmoto777

    @lastmoto777

    Yeah. I lost about five sections of video when I was making that KZread video. That was one of them. Sorry about that. There is pliers made specifically to take that ring out. But if you don't have them you can still get it out it's just harder. Just pry the one side out of its groove. And stick a skinny screwdriver behind it so it can't go back in its groove and just work your way around then pull it up with pliers after you get it about halfway around it will come out. It's a strong ring. So it's probably going to take a couple of attempts. Anyway. Good luck with that.

    I am stuck on the collar to get the backing plate to slide off.. how did you do it? you skipped over it...I can get a small screwdriver under the lip.. seals are still good...but not enough clearance to grab it?

  • @lastmoto777

    @lastmoto777

    You have to get the rubber o-ring seal off from between the axle and collar. You may have to ruin it to get it off. The assembly will NOT come off until you remove it. then the collar should come out. If your brakes are really worn they may hang up on the drum and not come out. If its being really difficult remove the whole axle . It will slide out with the brake and drum still attatched to the axle and brake assembly. Then just knock the drum off with a hammer striking the back of the drum. You will be able to separate the brake assembly from the drum once it is off the axle. I hope this helps.

    lastmoto777 thanks... so the rubber o ring is separate from the collar? .. backing plate moves easily until it gets to the collar.... I think I will try your axle suggestion...I think the collar will prevent me from knocking off the brake drum... because the backing plate will still be attached... so I am not sure that will help...so I guess the answer is to destroy the o ring and collar...let you know how it goes... thanks again for the suggestion...

    lastmoto777 ... collar came off easily, once I slid the axle out... backing plate is broken ..cracked where the stationary pivot pin was cast into the alum...backing plate bearing is still good too....think I will try to JB weld it or find an used one...does the drum slide back onto the axle shoulder... guess I got to heat the drum up to get it over the shoulder on the axle.... thanks...again...

    I have fixed alot of things with JB Weld over the years. That will probably work fine. There is another O Ring on the axle too. If it looks torn up this would be a good time to replace it too. Glad you are making progress with it. Good luck. The drum should just slide back on. Just lube your spines so it slides a little easier. Dont get lube in the drum or your new brake job wont work very well. haha.

    lastmoto777 that o ring is in good shape.. not sure exactly where it goes...drum will not slide back on.. beat on it and it still will not go...guess I gotta freeze the axle and heat the drum...? ... anyway, grease makes your brake shoes last a long time...so why not ? LOL!.. THANKS FOR YO HELP..!
