OMG!!! 😱🔥 FINALLY, the new Transalp is here!!! 🏍️💨 I've been waiting AGES for this moment, and it's so frustrating that Honda kept us in the dark for so long 🤬. Me and my love just couldn't wait any longer and got ourselves TWO CB500X's a few months back! 🚀💑 We've already been to Gibraltar and racked up 7500 miles, even had our second service done! 🌍✌️ Honestly, I don't regret our decision, but man, upgrading to the Transalp in just 3 months would cost us a fortune 💸💔 (especially for TWO bikes!). So I guess we'll stick with our current rides for a year or two 🤔. BUT, I am beyond excited to see your experience with the new Transalp 🤩👀, as it's definitely on my radar as my next bike!! 🏍️💥 Can't wait!!! 🎉🎊

Thanks for the informative review. I got a lot out of it. This is one of the bikes I am considering for my next purchase. I like the looks and the specs for the bike. I agree that cruise control and tubeless tires would (almost) complete it. I don’t think that there is an after-market cruise control that could be added, but one could certainly change out the wheels and tires to tubeless. I’m thinking of doing that to my CRF300 Rally.

German Autobahn... lovely! :D I went today to a Honda dealer to check it... two things I noticed: 1- IT is bigger than it seems on the pictures and internet movies, but like you said, not as big as the AT. I did struggle to push my leg over it without touching the seat... but hey,... I am getting old. 2- Again as you said, I was positvely surprised with the grey one (black was more meh). Will test ride it next week. With Inspections coming in 2024 and my Daisy starting to complain about her age, I have to start looking for the next one. One other thing I noticed... I went to see a Z900RS some days ago... it seemed huge, fat, bulky and big overall... And now it doesn't.

There is much to like on the new Transalp. To me, it probably has enough off-road for me to run around some gravel/hard sand roads nearby whilst being great on the road; and not overly heavy to back-out of my garage (my driveway has an annoying crest). The fixed screen and no cruise puts a big challenge against a low mileage 850GS though

  • @RocketMan_Moto

@@RocketMan_Moto Yeah. I guess the differentiation for BMW/KTM between their 800s and 1200s variants is big enough so they don't overly cannibalise their own sales. It would seem Honda have pushed their range into a 500-1100 market with 3 variants...maybe they need a Super-Africa-Twin to give the Transalp some space in the middle

  • @roadwarrior8560

Great info, I think I'll wait to hear some owners reviews on the forums and see if they make any upgrades for the second gen of these. I've just bought a new CB500x, interestingly the manual tells you what the chain tension is but says to go to the dealer. No torque settings etc, the toolkit is missing the 14mm spanner and 24mm one needed for the job too. So I'll need to put together a better touring toolkit. No plug spanner either. I expect the Translap will be the same. Now, I can get the axel torque from the old haynes manual, but you might need to talk to your dealer for your bike (assuming you're someone who uses spanners!)

I wonder how dirty it gets if ridden in the wet, or on a muddy road. I watched a video of the new Hornet - the presenter rode it in the wet and it got absolutely filthy. No deflection of crud. The front guard is too short and minimal protection elsewhere, which resulted in the header pipes caked in wet dirt and a hell of mess to clean in difficult to reach areas. That instant of realisation removed it off my 'next potential' list. Anyway, hope the TransAlp is better.

I just test rode this bike 1 hour ago and I must say my T7 handles better on the road in every respect. More planted and more solid and more neutral feeling. This Honda seemed a bit wayward and nervous and the gearbox is very clunky and stiff. Nice power, brakes and clutch. In general though it felt a bit nervous... No bendy gear leaver, no bashplate, no handguards. A bit of a miss in that respect. Im not convinced I want to 'upgrade' at this point.

To me, it does look better in the flesh (or metal). The white looks stunning & will help you get noticed like the first white AT's did. The grey metallic (not silver) would be a good choice if you prefer something more subtle. The black metallic looks boring to me, does nothing for the lines of the bike and I have decided that is a definite no. I have a DL650XT 2017 at present and the TA does everything better except the lights and the seat. If you cannot afford it, don't ride it, because it is highly likely you will want one. Delivery is different for each colour but you are looking at 3 months. I had an AT1000 for 2 years and decided that it was a bit too heavy for my needs & my age, but the new Transalp is ideal, very much lighter and more agile. Handling is superb. The dash is much better than the AT one which I found difficult to read. There are loads of settings and choices with it. It is happy going slow or fast. I found it to be quite stable in high winds. Another test ride and then decision time.

The silver looks good. Instead of ordering a Hornet, I might have thought about the Transalp if I'd seen that colour. I saw the white one at the NEC and wasn't a fan. That went with the white Hornet too (so we're deep in the realm of personal taste here), that I'm getting, hopefully this century, in grey. The headlight looks slightly less horrendous than on the Hornet and all round, looks like a total bargain - like the Hornet. Cruise control is a bit of a miss. But it's certainly not essential - you get to rest one arm (at some personal risk). Big deal!

My XL650V is in silver and I still love it and won't be trading it in. It has tubed tyres and in over 100,000 km travel, I have had exactly one puncture. What is all the fuss about? As for cruise control, if you need that, well ........ perhaps a Harley or driving a van would better suit your needs? Thank you Honda for giving us the option on the new Transalp of being able to turn the traction control and rear ABS off. Now that was a deal-maker for me on my gravel road adventures.

Nice looking bike. I prefer tube tires as off road a rock cut a tire that you can't fix a on tubeless tires. The light is a cosmetic appearance and not sure how well lights the road. My CB500X has it but installed lights that have settings for wide or driving. My 500x has Rally Raid suspension and several of their accessories and T-Rex skid plate and crash bars. It is set for adventure touring and handles better than my AT which is set for off road. Many adventure riders ride like a motocross racer. I am retired so riding fast off road is not for me. Unfortunately this bike is not to be marketed in the USA as NT1100 will not be. The dealers here they do intend to carry it. The market is for the super sport bikes that do wheelies on lay it over in corners. Installed street able tires on the AT for touring which works good. At times I cover 500+ Miles a day. The sport bikes maybe 250 and to starbutts. Use the for show offs.

I am suspecting that the 2024 Africa Twin may get different wheels given that the Transalp has stolen the AT's wheels. Plenty of AT owners moan about it not having tubeless rims. We shall see... The two things that put me off the Transalp is the lack of cruise control and that headlight which as you say just doesn't look right. If only they had styled it to look like an Africa Twin, but then they'd never be able to make enough to keep up with demand!

Quick comment on "looking better in the flesh than pictures"....I think this is to do with angle of view. When I saw the pics of the HD PanAm, I was very "eek", because the lower angle of the pictures puts a big emphasis on that open-mouth-like light cluster at the front. Standing next to it at 5'11'' that aspect is much reduced, and (imo) the really rather good looking rear 2/3 of the bike gets more attention
