Honda Talon…. Really?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We got a call for a brand new Honda Talon that crashed at the dunes!
We took Tims Jeep to try and get some new camera angles of what it takes to get the trailer in and out of the dunes.
The dunes are a net climb on the way in, with a few big drops, that must be climbed while loaded coming back out!
Also, the wind shifts the sand around so they are never the same, sometimes in the same day!

many long years ago, I had a friend tell me, "there are many editors in this life and few authors". It has stuck with me in moments of frustration...and eased my stress...or frustration. When you just want to say, "you come do it and I'll sit home and comment...", remember....many editors, few authors. Thank you Matt for being an author...and letting all of us come along with you.

Tossed somewhere inside the Jeep or in the box at the front of the trailer?

Im from Florida. So not many dunes to speak of.. But our ground is sugar sand. Either sand or mud.. Most people don't understand that a tall tire is helpful. But it's actually the footprint you really wanna widen. You wanna prevent as much "pushing aside" with sand as possible. And wanna float across the top. The more area you've got spreading the load, the better. An of course less weight.

I really enjoy your videos, seeing how you do the jobs and marvelling at the scenery (I am from East Anglia in the UK). I have often seen the comments stating that there are technologies that would make your job easier so I really appreciate your explanations for the choices that you have made for your trailer. Watching you struggle to line up these vehicles with wheels at all angles or not there at all reminds me of when I did a little bit of recovery work and a really handy tool is a small pulley that can be hung over the winch cable and clipped to the side of the trailer in order to pull to one side or the other. It only weighs 2 or 3lb. I realise that the lightweight construction of your trailer may not be substantial enough to hold one though so please ignore this suggestion; I am in no position to try to teach you anything at all. Best wishes to all of you.

Heck, I'm impressed with your trailer because I know what to takes to make recoveries, not in that type of sand, but in Florida sand, and I know that a 2000+lb.trailer with a full ramp gate, is hard to get through some of the Florida sands and that's when it's empty, then once you put another 1200-1500+lbs on it, then you're having to pull well over 3000lbs. So I kinda know what it would take to get it to places you take that one, and one truck or Jeep isn't going to do it. Anyways, you know what works, and you built that to do what you needed it to do, and it works. And it working is all that matters.

Hey Mat, first off we love your video's and the work you do.... regarding the comments, I am Dutch and I live in Belgium and we have a saying here "de beste stuurlui staan aan wal" translated this means the best helmsman are always on the shore.... dont take notice of the social media exerts, who have probably never drove an inch in loos sand conditions. I am a proffesional truck driver, an an off-road addict and in my book you and your team are doing a hell of a job recovering and building your own material to work with....

I love your justification of the trailer. I've driven the Simpson Desert in Australia and certainly wouldn't like to be touring anything out there...the Simpson looks very much like Sand Hollow but bigger...as in 4 days to cross it with no assistance available. I'm totally impressed at the way you fling that trailer around Matt. In Australian vernacular..."it's a bloody beaut"

I have zero experience at what Matt does or how he does it. I have never questioned anything on his videos. I just sit back and enjoy and try to learn something! Why do people feel compelled to critique everything? I would give anything to be able to ride along. Watching him and the guys do their thing lets me do that. And I will tell you, at 74 years old I do know something about human nature. Matt's well balanced approach to his job has my admiration and his judgement is pretty sound. Keep it up, Matt! Ignore what people think, they don't have to watch!

I suspect after doing this for 20+ years you probably know best. I’m still in my mind though designing a “comparatively” lightweight tilt bed lol. I drove a Toyota Landcruiser jeep for 5 years in the Sahara desert. Toyotas were the only thing you could get parts for. Had a smallish 4 cylinder diesel in it. Somewhat underpowered, but we had the same kind of sand. Your only weapon to get over a dune was speed and if you had to slow down for something, you weren't going to make it. No trees, so eventually I removed the giant winch that had been put on it to lighten it and we just used sand plaques and a shovel. Mine were old military steel runway planks. Enjoy watching how y'all work through the various obstacles, problems and situations that come along. Keep it up and get er done!!
