Honda S2000 Review // When Hero Becomes Legend

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2008 Honda S2000 CR ($100,000 USD current market price) is the more serious and track-focused rendition of the beloved S2000 roadster. Available in hard-top only, the Club Racer (CR) was intended to be driven hard at American racetracks - and then back home without a fuss or worry. To help achieve this, Honda improved the rigidity of the body and chassis, reduced overall weight, and added some new aero parts to reduce lift. Among other changes, such as wider tires, the CR made for the most extreme Honda S2000 to ever hit the American market. Thomas and James are excited to see what the Club Racer is all about. We hope you enjoy the episode! SUBSCRIBE!

Quick comment: The NC and ND Miata generations both have engines behind the front axle, like the S2K. Thomas was referring to when the S2K first came out. He just did a bad job of explaining it because apparently he doesn't want us to reach 2 million subscribers.

I worked at a Honda dealer in 2005 before I left for the Marine Corps. Super easy gig, the cars sold them selves. The dealership had a “test loop” comprised of back roads and highways. We had a used S2000 that we used as our test car whenever someone was looking at a new S2000. One day a gentleman came in and wanted the Blue S2 that we had on the floor but wasn’t sure. I proceeded to tske him to the test loop to seal the deal, he kept on shifting at 6000 RPM, darn thing wasn’t even into vtec yet. I asked him to get out, and than I drove it. I proceeded to beat it with in an inch of its life, 9k shifts for 10 minutes. The customer paid me cash for the floor model 20 minutes later. Epic cars.

I was also selling at a Honda dealership in 2005 and we always had a hard time with the S2000. We had this same CR for almost a year in our showroom before selling it for invoice to a prison guard. I heard later that year he left it in a parking lot during a flood and totaled the car out.

It will be forever my favorite car of all time despite having more "grown up" and supposedly "better" fast sports cars. My now sold S2k has been the only car that made me repeatedly irresponsible on public roads despite plenty of track time. It was the reason I sold it. Living between 6k-9k on the revs was my drug addiction that I had to kick to make sure I continued to live. I still hear the echos of the F20c at 9k through my T1R Sparrow exhaust. 😔❤️

As a 12-year owner of two yellow AP1 S2000s, this was a treat of a video. I miss mine immensely. My only consolation is it's likely I'll get another at some point. It was a stunningly good car. It was a rare drive that it didn't go all the way to 9000rpm, and it begged to do it each and every time. In those dozen years, the only mechanical fault I experienced was a bad MAP sensor. It provided thousands of miles of dependable, unadulterated fun.

Despite what a lot of people say - I don't think S2000's are slow (coming from a guy who use to own a Toyota with a twin-turbo JZ, however much that's worth). For something with a 2-liter N/A engine these cars are stupid fast. And they're unique in that they tolerate being beat on, and moreover they encourage it and make it very easy - the switchgear in an S2K makes the experience so fluid and effortless that it's just unbelievable. Another thing I love about this car is that - usually in a manual car when you upshift the engine winds up in a place where it's a bit lethargic, whereas in an S2K after the upshift the revs are about where a normal engine would be redlining. It's an experience that's totally unique to the S2K with its insane redline and short ratios.

What an awesome video! As an AP2 owner, I've been looking for the right ways to explain "slow-car-fast" to muscle car bros who don't understand the fun of something like this because it isn't fast in a straight line. You did an excellent job explaining the daily amount of fun I have just making the daily commute in my S2k. Excellent video as always

I'm so glad you reviewed the S2000. It is the one car that I failed to own in its prime. I worked for Honda for a short time and always believed this car was awesome even when it was underpowered by other cars at that time. The noise of the engine roaring to redline, the accurate handling, light chassis, and close gear shifting make it a fun and addicting car to drive.

  • @Ficon

Honda has lost their core competency of naturally-aspirated high-revving engines. The new S2000 would have a 1.5 turbo 4 with a 6500 rpm redline and it would play the old S2000 noises through the speakers, just like the Si does.

I just bought this car 2 months ago and absolutely love this car. Its been my dream car ever since I was in high school and I finally saved up enough money to buy one. With the prices of S2Ks going up I knew I had to buy one now before they get out of my price range. I just got a 2001 AP1 in White with a tan interior for 14k, 176k on chasis and 2k on rebuilt motor. My goodness this car is so much fun to drive with the top down. Previous owner added a K&N intake and Invidia Q300 exhuast...let me tell you with the top down reving up to 9k rpms theres nothing like it. You can hear the engine breathe whenever it hits VTEC at 6k RPMs and up. The car just begs you to rev it up when you're under 6k rpms. It brings a smile to my face every time I drive it and would reccomend buying this car if you ever wanted one. Seriously a RWD Honda that has 240 HP stock that revs up to 9k RPMs is legendary...don't get me wrong I love my K, H, and B series engines but the F series motor is so unique. This car isn't the fastest but it is most fun to drive all the time. If I wanted fast I could buy a newer car with more HP but thats not what this car is all about. Trust me buy this car, put the top down, rev it up to 9k or 8.2k on the AP2 and you'll understand what I mean. If you buy one please cherish these cars, they are only getting rarer to find in good condition. Many for sale are salvaged title going up to 20k on fb marketplace and offer up. Even one on offer up that was gutted with hentai anime stickers and wasn't well maintained sold for 20k.
