Honda Ruckus No Start Troubleshooting & Fuel Pump Swap

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Ruckus left me stranded!
My friend just picked up a Honda Ruckus and wanted to go for a cruise the other night. Shortly after leaving his house after cruising, the Ruckus died and would not start again, leaving my stranded. I got the Ruckus home the next day and started digging into what was going on.

    I have a Honda Airblade 110cc in Thailand, looks to be the same fuel pump. Same problem, won't start but have spark. Mine made that exact clicking/tapping sound when turning on the key. No fuel being pumped through the line. Noticed after you changed out the pump, there was no clicking. Replacing my fuel pump in the morning. Thanks for this video!

    my ruck after turning ket doens't seem to have any power. battery has been changed. and I tested the 3 fuses with my meter. all good. i went ahead and replaced the blue relay and the both main relays. still no power. how do i check the grounds on a ruckus?

  • @MikesMiniMotors

    @MikesMiniMotors

    2 жыл бұрын

    I would check my grounds with a multimeter. Set the multimeter to either Resistance (Ohms) or Continuity. Place one probe on the negative of the battery, and the other probe on the ground you want to check. Check your resistance reading, it should be really low (under 1 Ohm). If you do not get a reading at all or a high reading, you may either have a wire unhooked somewhere or a connection could be loose or have corrosion on it. If all that checks out, I would find a wiring diagram online and start tracing wires to see where the issue could be. Good luck!

    Awesome video. Been fighting mine for a while now. Same issue basically but I can get it to run for 10 mins them it stalls back out. Not to sure what is happening. But more importantly, do you have a link for those clear fuel lines ? Thank you.

    Is there any other way to diagnose a bad fuel pump other than seeing the flow? I have the same issue on my gy6. Changed spark plug, solenoid, and battery. Still doesn’t wanna start.

  • @MikesMiniMotors

    @MikesMiniMotors

    2 жыл бұрын

    You could potentially use a multimeter to probe the fuel pumps connector, but I do not know what values you would be looking for to confirm a good/bad pump. Checking the flow is the easiest way I have found to check the fuel pump.

  • @parkerpeabody9079

    Where is the fuel pump relay on these? Gy6 swapped ruckus with a current stand alone harness and would like to use the oem ruckus pump but can’t find the relay.

  • @MikesMiniMotors

    @MikesMiniMotors

    3 жыл бұрын

    There isn't a fuel pump relay. Looking at the wiring diagram for a stock Ruckus, the fuel pump gets +12VDC when the ignition is on, and the negative leg goes to the ECU. I used the Rolling Wrench swap harness and with it, the stock ECU and wiring harness stay in and still controls everything.

    I just put my new fuel pump.in , and before I could almost stop out at 40mph , now it will only get up to 35 and then will slow down I dunno why all I did was replace the fuel pump , and adjusted my throttle a bit

  • @MikesMiniMotors

    @MikesMiniMotors

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hmm, that's odd. Did you go with an OEM fuel pump? When you are getting to 35 mph, is the bike cutting out like it is losing fuel? It is possibly that the fuel pump isn't able to keep up at full speed, but seems very unlikely to me. Maybe the throttle adjustment you did may have something to do with it.

    So when you turn the key on, the fuel pump is the only thing that turns on? Have you checked the fuses yet? That's where I would start looking.

  • @MikesMiniMotors

    @MikesMiniMotors

    3 жыл бұрын

    I was using the stock Ruckus fuel pump which is electric, so I just cycled the key on and off a few times and it was good to go. Some GY6 swaps go to a vacuum-driven Mikuni fuel pump though, and those need the engine running/turning over to pump.

  • @samrobbins6714

    You can put your mouth on the gas cap and blow really hard and tilt the bike to the left side and it will fill the fuel lines thats how u prime without a eltric fuel pump works everytime

    The stock electric pump has more than enough flow for a GY6, I have friends running them even on 232cc GY6s with no issues. I refuse to use the vacuum fuel pumps.
