Awesome channel! I like the fact you don't really edit out the unscrewing and mention the torque measurements as well. Really in-depth and easy to follow along.

Thank you for a great video. Instructional without any of the "look at how much I know about motorcycles" BS that some others do. Love that you included the torque settings because sometimes you can get hung up trying to find those out when you don't have a shop manual handy.

Excellent Video - I actually did this last weekend with your video teacking me ... one question ... did you use any thread lock? and if so where?
@SLIGHT_
Жыл бұрын
You are to use thread lock on items they don’t torque or if it calls for it. I use lock tight on many items yet most these bolts have a torque spec. None call for thread lock. That said… I use a little lock tight (blue) on the front fender bolts as I have no spec I can find. All others I torque. How did you find this job?

@@SLIGHT_ nice and easy actually. I do however wish Honda would use better quality hex screws. I rounded one of the mudguard bolts when tightening it down. So the next time i have to take it off will be a nightmare
Hello @SLIGHT_! Great video. I unfortunately had an accident and am changing the front forks. Maybe you know? Will the forks from the 2022 model fit in the 2018? (CMX500). I read that you wrote that there are some groves for a better fit of the gaiter. But otherwise the forks fit 1:1 from new rebel to old? Thank you
@SLIGHT_

The bottom fork leg is slightly different… as well as the internal spring… yet to do what you’re looking to do (full replacement) this will work perfectly.
How do you ensure the front tire is aligned properly? Are there alignment marks on the tubes from the factory, did you make reference marks, etc?
@SLIGHT_
Жыл бұрын
You’re not taking apart the triple. As long as you match the measurements from the top hats and the top clamp you’re fine.
I was wondering how did you jack up the rebel. I was gonna lift it up with the jack but not sure where the stable lifting area is. Any advise. Great video btw.

I have a video I’ll be releasing in this… Basically you’ll need a lower tree stand. Unless you have crash bars… then you can utilize them with stands.
Sleek additions. Only change id make is hiding the seams on the gaiters. But that’s just me.
Would like to see the jack points and where you put the stands.
@SLIGHT_

Used the crash bar for stands, jack under the oil pan.
I want to jack the bike the way you did it by using stands on the crash bars but I don't know exactly where you used the jack? There's no solid frame under the bike, just the exhaust and oil pan.
@SLIGHT_
2 жыл бұрын
I used a rubber pad, across both the converter and the oil pan. Having a spotter to guide it up straight. I will be doing a video on jacking points in the near future.
So I put 4inch risers on but my clutch cable is tight and I just ordered the same break line extender from your other video should I reroute my clutch cable , did you always have to reroute yours ?
@SLIGHT_

I do because I don’t like how tight that line gets. It gives it some slack.
I bought a package deal, it has the gators and then metal upper fork covers. Would they be a bad idea as opposed to vinyl wrap? Bc of the turn signals?
@SLIGHT_
2 жыл бұрын
I’d need to know the kit. Link?? Also vinyl is just a cheaper way to do it. The Honda kit I have on mine uses a plastic cover. As I had to move my signals down I had to change out the bolt and add spacers to the signal lamp mount.
@Nickfv12

@@SLIGHT_ ahh gotcha. It's just a cheap one from Ali express for the 2020 cmx500. But they show it being on there and it seems to fit perfectly underneath the turn signals.
Quick question, my forks have some bad rust pitting if I do this do you think it would help prolong there life after getting all the rust out?

Do the gaiters have ventilation hole on it? I had gaiters installed but the fork push all air out and it get compressed to the fork all the time, even without ties. I am afraid it will have impact to the fork seal.
@SLIGHT_
Жыл бұрын
Interesting question. Short answer would be no they don’t have a vent hole. I’ve had these on mine for 40plus km. With no issues to the fork seals. Did you go with the oem Honda boots or aftermarket. If aftermarket… what kit?
@def-vlog
Жыл бұрын
@@SLIGHT_ it’s not oem. I got it from the previous rebel owner. I’m thinking to make some tiny holes but I’m afraid it will allow dust to came in and collect them inside. I didnt know if Honda had oem boots. Should probably replace them with oem. Glad I found your channel. Your videos really help me out.
@SLIGHT_
Жыл бұрын
@@def-vlog the oem kit is for the 2020 and newer models. That specific kit only uses the zip ties to the top. As for adding holes to your current set up. I would replace the lower zip ties and keep them slightly loose (if you are concerned about those seals) it shouldn’t be air tight, but tight enough for them to stay in place. If that makes sense. Thanks for watching.
hi what did you use on the right side to hold the axle when you tightened the bolt on the left? 6:44

1/2” Ratchet (can use a break bar) with 14mm hex/Allen Reference time stamp 6:43, nothing crazy as you’re just holding it from moving for the initial tightening.

The forks changed slightly in 2020, by this I mean there is a ridge to accept the oem gaiter kit. The 2019 will accept the kit installed in this video, yet the fitment of the oem kit is slightly off. Long story short, yes it will work in your case.

A torque wrench is a torque wrench. Depends on what you have for sockets, 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2. Is that what you’re asking?

@@stevedeltacharlie816 it’s not specific “for a specific bike” I have the two. Snap on digital 1/2, Matco digital 3/8. Call me crazy and I might have to try it myself for 💩and giggles after removing the wheel, fenders caliper, and reflectors I wonder if you could slip it on from the bottom, I'm curious how far the small end will stretch being rubber, I could lube it with soapy water or tire slick it might make it past the mounting points lol.

I wish that would work…. The top part of the gaiter will not allow for that. The lower part of the fork is way to wide. Only ways to complete this is as shown (from the top)… or cutting the gaiters and glueing them back together… Thanks for the comment. Great idea. Wish that was an option.
