If you’re like me and buy them new and keep them 15-20 years, I’d have problems going that long between intervals. 3-5 works best for me. Thank you for your video. I’m in the minority, and I realize that.

I respect that. I do have a 2013 Odyssey (205k mi) and 2013 Accord (236k miles) and they are still going strong doing the oil changes at 5% oil life left.

This is super interesting. Thanks for sharing this. It's interesting to see Honda has a ton of Molybdenum like Toyota oil.

Thanks for checking it out. I found it interesting as well. I just changed out the Quaker State that was in there for 10,020mi, today and will be sending that sample out tomorrow. Check back for a video on that analysis.

AWESOME!!! I just got a 25 pilot and have been reading wayyy too many forums on whether to follow the MM or change the factory fill oil early. Looks like I'm keeping the factory fill in. I might change at 15% just for fun.Thank you for your time and effort man!

Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. I will have an analysis coming soon about the Quaker State Full-Synthetic oil that is currently in there. Its at 10% now, I will change it when it hits 5%.

9,665 miles. We picked the vehicle up new at the end of April 2023, the oil was changed 10/28/23. So, almost 6 months exactly, plus the 3 weeks from when it was built and delivered to the dealership. We ordered the car.

@InsideBigJaysGarage excellent, thank you! By the time mine hits 15% I'm assuming it will be around the 1 year mark. I was so tempted with changing around 3k miles, but I'll hold off thanks your analysis results

Wow, hurry up and wear that engine out! The auto companies WANT the high mile oil change intervals so you can have engine trouble and have to buy another vehicle. The oil in my 2019 Passport with 68000 miles and 4000 miles on the oil was dark brown account more idle time in hot weather so got the oil changed. The oil reminder rarely gets below 40% for me. I rather buy oil and filters than an engine!

I have an Odyssey (205,000mi) and an Accord (234,000mi) that I have been changing the oil on at ~5% since new. I will have the latest oil analysis for those up soon. Also, I have the oil sample from the oil change I did on the Pilot @20,000mi out for analysis and should have the results back soon.

Thanks for the reply. Right now it has Quaker State Full-Synthetic oil in it that we are trying to get to 5% so I can drain and test.

I hope your engine lasts more than 100k. at best you should change your oil & filter every 3500 - 4500 miles. Another person said oil is cheaper than an engine. At $50k for my '24 RL-BE i'll definitely be changing the break-in oil probably around the 2500 mi mark. GL on your endeavor.

I have an Odyssey with 205k miles and an Accord with 236k miles and I ran the same oil change intervals on those, changing the oil at 5% on the maintenance minder. I do not expect much difference on this Pilot. :-). I will have an AO coming on the 2nd oil change, soon.

Important to know how the pilot is driven and envienvironment. For example, always driven 50 miles (fully warmed) in 70 degrees. If you drive 4 miles in below zero, then that is severe service. Not telling us the use case makes the oil analysis useless.

Thanks for the feedback, I will include that in the next analysis for the viewers. This car sees a 50/50 mix. Some days it goes on a 75 mi round trip commute. Some days it goes 3 miles to the school and back. In just about all cases it hits operating temp. Good call out.

Hey lets spend an ungodly amount of money on a new vehicle and cheap out on the easiest and cheapest thing to do to protect our massive money losing purchase!!! What a great idea!!! LoL

I agree! Getting an oil analysis is a quick and effective way to see what is going on in your new engine. If there is something going wrong it will pick it up and you can get it addressed while still under warranty.

Why would Blackstone recommend longer oil chnage?

  • @InsideBigJaysGarage

    @InsideBigJaysGarage

It’s something that they offer and you can ask for. They look at the properties of the oil and determine if the oil held up and if there was still additive left in the oil (TBN #).
