Honda NC750X vs X-ADV vs Africa Twin

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Comparison between Honda NC750X, X-ADV and Africa Twin. And why I chose the NC750X.
The weight of the NC750X DCT in the comparison should be 230kg and not 220kg, my misstake.

I did the mistake to choose the Africa Twin Adventure Sport in 2018. I am 1.83m but the seat height was a nightmare to deal with, even in low position. I thought I would benefit a lot from the engine, the comfort and the protection, but at the end I sold it because of its manoeuvrability.

Discovered this video after purchasing 21 NC and I am glad to do it. My thoughts were suspiciously similar to you. Africa over budget dream, ADV - not sure if fits me and after first ride with NC everything was clear. As you mention - despite I am absolutely new rider - I am not afraid to go hard offroad with NC. I feel like on mountbike twenty years ago. Only difference is I don't have to paddle to last breath uphill :-) And I love that NC responses to body - hip - or if you want to hear it - butt movements. So easy to navigate bike where you want...

Thanks for this review. I'm seriously considering getting an NC750X to ride across the US next summer. Your video has pushed me closer to the edge of buying one. Unfortunately they're not popular in the US, none of the dealers in my area have one. Your assessment helps.

Great video! I also chose the NC. We can’t get the XADV here in the states, so it was between the AT and the NC. I live in the far suburbs of Detroit and ride mostly city and highways for my commute. The AT is sweet, but not very practical for my needs. I picked up an 18 DCT brand new for just under $7,000. Fantastic bike!

The X-ADV, is not available in Australia at this time, I think it would be interesting to try out. The NC750 X is the one I would choose for it's easy going flexibility, weight and the accessories range is well established for the bike. The Africa Twin looks an awesome thing, though I have never been a fan, of large off roaders, I like the smaller, more maneuverable bikes, having owned two KLR 650s they have their quirks but I had a really good run with them. As one gets older, priorities change, weight, height, ease of rider comfort, for me the Honda NC 750 X is ideal.

Interesting review there, I had a the Honda Integra NC700 for a year or so it is very similar to the NC750 x and ADV X. I found it too heavy for traffic and easy to damage all the plastics and keep clean around chain area so have a Forza 300 now for a commute and an old 2010 CBF600 for weekend rides etc.

I surely thank you for this video. I have owned and just recently (about a week ago) my '18 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports DCT. I loved that bike. Without going into a lot of details, I'm 6' 2 1/2" and around 245 lbs and that bike was just plain too big for me. Way too top heavy. So, after 2.5 years of ownership, I decided to sell it. I am within just a couple of days of purchasing a '20 NC750X DCT. I've not tested one out so, it's gonna be a new experience. We'll see. Thanks again. SR

I also debated between the NC 750 and the Africa Twin. Both bikes have a lot of promise. I found a new 2018 AT in Nov 2019 and I bought it. I'm short 5'4" and old (65) so the bike can be challenging to ride. I have installed the lower seat and bar risers that bring the bars closer and it feels much better. My last bike was a Road King which I owned for 10 years. When I first bought it, it was a challenge too. Enjoy your NC 750 I'm sure I would have enjoyed it as well.

If Honda would offer a 19" front wheel like on the CB500X then the NC750X could really be a strong choice for a mid range adventure bike. It has such a good engine and is so nimble to ride, it's really a shame they don't offer that wheel size as an option. As it stands it is a great commuter that can handle very light offroad. I'm excited to see what Honda does in 2021 with the Africa Twin 800.

Thank You for an earnest and well done review we have X-ADV 750 and agree fully with you i changed the dog bones on the rear, and lowered the bike 30 mm in the back and 15 mm on the up and down forks in the front. When mounting crash-bars on this bike you have to think twice before you buy this the Givi crash-bar has a pipe connecting the left and right bar this make it possible to cut the back section on the crash-bar and you can then stand flatfooted on the grund we tried mounting a pair of aftermarket foot pegs but have removed them again because you need every centimeter of space for your legs where they are. The gearbox are absolutely wonderful and the bike has more than enough power for our needs. The X-ADV do not sell well in our country so we bought a new 2017 years model this year for a reduced price.

I bought the X-ADV a few months ago since I had to travel back and forth to my Grandma's house and the road going to her house is somewhat a little bit to the off beaten track. Aside from that, the comfort of a scooter is there, I was looking at the Kymco AK550 but that scooter cant handle dirt roads with big rocks. The X-ADV is a joy to ride on those beaten tracks but again, like what you said, it all depends on the taste of the rider and how deep your pockets are.

Mike, I looked for awhile for a used NC700X or NC750X DCT, for the frivolous reason that I didn't really like the 2020 black on black paint scheme. I also wasn't sure I'd like the bike, so buying used seemed a good bet. I missed a few locally on Craigslist and CycleTrader, but most were either too close in price to a new bike, or too many miles. I kept widening my search outward from Seattle, until finally I found one down in Tucson, Arizona - 2,600 km away! This was just as the novel coronavirus was getting started here in the US, so we weren't locked down yet. I talked to the owner - a retired schoolteacher who seemed very straightforward - so I got a cheap air flight from Seattle to Tucson the next day, met him at the airport, rode the bike (like new, 6,200 miles, recently serviced, factory heated grips and powerport, SW-Mototech skid plate, factory centerstand, factory side cases and trunk, fresh Shinko 705's), exchanged money ($3,500) and off I rode toward Seattle. I had to get over the Siskiyou Summit on Interstate-5 by Saturday (it was Tuesday afternoon when I bought the bike) or I would get snowed on. There was a good weather window until Saturday. This was the last week of February. A video along the way: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h3eLlaSLp7idqZM.html The previous owner said he had installed the skidplate, and with the factory centerstand which was already installed, he had to take a grinder and buzz off a small section so it would fit. He said it was easy, and he really liked the skidplate - very protective, and just four bolts to remove for servicing. It also doesn't reduce ground clearance much. So far it's worked well on the gravel roads I've ridden on - much pinging of stones on it, so it seems to be doing the job. I am not interested in riding single-track or anything technical, so it works for me. Thanks for your informative videos - much appreciated! -Tom

Hello FinnMike, Really enjoyed this correct review. I like all your video’s, please continue that fine work. I ride the 2019 NC DCT in matt black, with black rims. I think the best colour match, only produced in 2019. I have 2 minor remarks. The weight of the NC is 220 kg with manual clutch, it’s 230 kg with DCT. There are 2 versions of the AT, the normal and the adventure. Is the price correct? I assume you rode the adventure version, the normal is less intimidating and less high and cheaper. I fully agree with your conclusion. Maybe you could add the benefit of the frunk. Ideal for daily rides and commutes. I would only prefer 10-15 more HP for on the Highway. Torque is ok. Thanks, Paul from Holland

  • @FinnMikeonaBike

    @FinnMikeonaBike

Hello Paul, The matt black is a nice color but the changed it to glossy for 2020. You are absolutely right about the weight, I looked at the wrong specs sheet, it's 230kg for the DCT model. The AT is the most expensive model CRF1100L, I did mention in the video that it's the one with all accessories like electronic suspension and so on. My thought was that if you go the AT way you go all the way :-) The price of the bike varies a lot depending on where you ask, but it should be around 19.000€. Thanks for your remarks! Ride safe!!

Mejor que las pruebas de los "medios profesionales". Took me about 6 months to get used to my 2018 ATAS. It's a formidable bike if you're used to riding mid-sized bikes. It's big. It's tall. It's heavy. But once you hit that sweet spot (for me on a road trip in the Alps) there's just nothing like it. Not quite as nimble as my Tracer 700. Like comparing a Mini Cooper with Clarkson's Bentley Continental! And I bought mine 2nd hand so didn't pay an extortionate amount for an absolutely amazing machine. greetings from Greece. i have a nc750x 2015 and as you said i had to spend some money to be more comfy. also i agree that for daily use the nc is the best choice. how many times you will go to dirt? small trips all around and possible one big trip every year. i must say also that its not only how much it cost every bike but also the services and the spare parts. i dont know if honda make a transalp or A.T on 2021 with 850cc engine but i believe many of us will wait to see what honda will do...i hope either a smaller A.T with normal price either an nc with a little bit more h.p and kw.

Hi!, I would definitely recommend the NC for a beginner. You might want to install a lowering kit if you are 162cm and a beginner, so that you are able to flat foot the bike. It is not a complicated installation and it can be removed when you feel more confident. Honda doesn't have any custom bike with DCT, they tried a few years with the CTX700DCT, but it was discontinued. powersports.honda.com/street/touring/ctx700?year=2018

I commute on an NC700X that I've had from new. I'm looking to upgrade for a change but am really finding it hard to justify changing to anything (other than a 750X). Even on my 'worst' days I get 3.6 l/100km - Mine lives outside all year round (without a cover) and it's held up pretty well. Some sports of rust but not a lot at all.

I bought a NC700S (the naked version) in 2013 new, still riding it every day with a smile on my face. Just completed 100.000 km. Flawless bike, best decision ever. I also have a 2014 NC750S that my Honda dealer offered me at a very reasonable price, it was used with only 4000km, kind of my weekend bike. The 700S is my every day mule. I chose the S version ( not available in the US) because I really like naked bikes. It is a little lower which suits me since I am only 5'8". I use the bike on gravel and trails as well with caution and never had a problem. By now I am looking back to 40 years on bikes and really can't find a better combination of fuel economy, easy maintenance and durability . And not to forget, once you had a bike with a 'frunk' it's dearly missed on any other bike. Won't get rid of mine. If money comes along I mind get another bike but those two NC's are here to stay. Safe rides 👍🏍

Hi. It´s difficult to find a video of the NC750X with your upgrades and this comparation with the xadv gras great for me. I want to change my old byke and the two I have in my last option are the XADV ant the NCX. I can only proof the xadv because here in Palma de Mallorca doesn´t have a ncx 750 for the proof. You´re lucky in Malaga. Here they have 12 motorbikes for proving but not an ncx. I can only seat on a sttoped one. I can´t really have an idea about one important question for me: the comfort of the seat. In your video you said that the AT is so comfortable. Can you give me your personal experiencie with the comfort on the NCX please??. Gracias y saludos

I think the best new ADV next year will be the HONDA Africa Twin 850. Apparently, it will be putting out approximately 78hp, weigh 211kg wet. It will have identical ergonomics to its bigger sibling and possibly be coming out in the tricolor and red/white/black colors of the earlier versions (with minor graphic changes). To cut costs it is assumed these will not be lacquered over. The old soft suspension will hopefully be gone, and firmer, controlled Showa gear will be keeping the bike in connection with the ground (all fully adjustable for preload and damping). They are supposedly bringing it out in two versions - One version only sporting switchable ABS and no other rider aides (To attract riders away from the T7). The other version will be an up-spec version with similar electronics to the newer 1100 for those who like all the tech. Retail will be around $750US more than the T7 (for the base model AT). The up-spec version will still come in under the base model AT1100 price. I can't wait ;)

Very good logic and review, thank you. I almost bought xadv but didnt for seating reasons, not comfortable for taller rider - foot rests too high and too close to seat, xmax 400 is 10 times better for comfort which I find strange. Tried nc loved it, waiting to try integra to decide, but since ncX can go offroad that may be a better choice. Its cheap enough so parts can be upgraded, I think that bike would be perfect with front fork and front wheel upgrade (18"). Btw, what beautiful country is this?
