Honda HSS724 Dual Stage Snowblower Demo Test

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

My first test run with my new Honda HSS724A wheel drive snowblower. Purchased this unit to supplement my smaller, but very trusty Honda HS622 track drive unit. I live in an urban environment that doesn't need a huge snowblower and our region typically doesn't get huge snow accumulations during the winter season. However, the 2023/2024 season has been particularly dry with never been seen drought conditions. Nonetheless, the little tiny bit of snow we had gave me a chance to fire this unit up and to see how the GX200 motor compares against my HS622's GX160. I did a main jet swap on my GX200 and replaced the factory #75 main jet with a #80 jet and the performance improvement is significant and quite noticeable when the motor is under load. The factory jet depending on the year the blower was made may come with EITHER a #75 or a #78 jet and in my opinion, are both TOO small and should be upgraded to either an #80 or a #82 depending on your elevation. Due to government-mandated emissions requirements, Honda had to install smaller main jets. As a result, the motors in the post-2015 snowblowers were crippled of power under load and would bog down and lose power. With the upgraded jet size, the motor runs smoother and is NOTICEABLY better under load with minimal drop in RPM. I haven't tried the even larger #82 jet as I am currently at 3400 ft above sea level and I do not want to run my motor rich as it will lead to oil dilution that can lead to lack of lubrication and engine damage.

Very cool! It sure can throw the snow far. I have a 622 and as much as I love it the track drive is a bit of a snail. The 724 seems like a beast and can move at a decent speed.

The HSS724 when rejetted with a larger main jet really opens up the motor in such a way that the power under load is a LOT better. Its night and day and I'd say anyone that has the HSS line of blowers should upsize their jet unless they're at extremely high elevations where one would either leave the main jet alone or even potentially downsize.

These Honda HSS 2 stage machines are snow cannons, especially with that jet mod. Hopefully they continue making them. I know they're going electric with their lawnmowers. Yamaha also makes a similar type machine but not available in the states. I have an Ariens Platinum 24 SHO. It's a nice machine (the LCT engine fuel tank is way too small for its 369cc engine size) it will throw powder pretty far. However not at the Honda HSS level. Have not been getting much snow here in the NY Metro burbs the last few years.

@@cardo1111 Yes the Honda's are my go to equipment provider b/c they make such high quality (but STUPID expensive) equipment. I'm a big Honda nut so it is no surprise that I have multiple Honda blowers. Whenever we get even the tiniest bit of snow that I'm all over that and playing with my toys to keep things flowing and running properly. We recently had a big dump of snow and I just went to town with my snowblower. It's always so satisfying looking at a 30+ foot column of snow being ejected from the chute and into the ravine by the road.

It's so true. Plows will NEVER come to our street b/c it isn't a major road but I am lucky enough to have a huge ravine behind the street that I could toss all that extra snow to without causing issues (it's a drainage ravine) so perfect for me to clean the streets for the neighborhood even though it is TECHNICALLY illegal. I'd be shocked if they tried to write me a ticket since I'm doing THEM and everyone else a favor.

#80 and I'm 4300 ft above sea level with ZERO issues. I'd be willing to bet I could go #82 even. These units in the early production runs came shipped with a #76 then sometime around 2020ish they changed it up to #78 so you going to an 80 or even an 82 could work permitted you're not some super high elevation. Buy the jet from your local Honda power equipment dealer. They're super cheap and will run you a few bucks. Just don't tell the dealer you're modding your newly purchased snowblower as they'd void your warranty for tampering with the factory carb.

Think I can borrow this snowblower for a day? I have a neighbor Id rather not see, if I can borrow it now, I can close him off so he doesn't come out of his house til it starts melting again. Please let me know, it's an urgent matter!

That’s not your street, is it? Isn’t it nice to have all the controls up on the top, easily and quickly accessible? 👍

The Hondas are very well laid out and have so much power! I am not used to the wheeled version compared to my smaller, lighter, but slightly less powerful HS622. This is my first hydrostatic drive snowblower so it isn’t something I am quite used to but as you tell from me playing with the snow on the street that I was able to plow basically more than 1/3 of the streets snow at full speed. If I tried to do that in my gear drive HS622 it would’ve taken 50% longer due to the very slow forward drive speed and smaller engine. The 724 is indeed overkill for an urban setting where I am but I am like “Tim the Toolman Taylor” and crave more horsepower lol.

rejetting the HSS series of blowres with a larger main jet is a game changer! I love this blower b/c it just eats anything we throw at it.
