Honda HR-V 2022 Review

Need help buying your next car? Click the following link and my team and I will help you choose your ideal car at a fair price - from Mat Watson! bit.ly/Wow-Me-carwow
.............................................................
This is the all-new Honda HR-V, and Mat’s about to find out if this is the best value-for-money family SUV you can buy in 2022!
So let’s take a look at the design. For starters, there’s no denying that the looks are much improved over the previous generation. From a full-length light bar at the rear to a body colour grille upfront, this is one seriously stylish family car.
Take a look at the inside and the high quality continues, with a smart-looking dash and a pretty good infotainment system. Honda has even retained some physical buttons so you don’t have to do everything through a touch screen!
You won’t have any trouble picking an engine either, as there’s only one - a 1.5-litre petrol coupled with two electric motors to put down 130hp. There are also three trims to pick from, but otherwise, that’s your lot!
So what do you think - is this the best family car you can buy for under £30,000? You’ll have to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

Best fuel economy so Far. This car is heavily underrated by all the reviewers out there. And its a Honda. Heavy petrol head here, i drive tested many of them before i bought one, from the likes of CX30, Toyota RAV4 ,Corolla Cross, CH-R Renault Austral, Alfa Tonale, Hyundai Tucson, Qashqai etc.. all of them hybrids except the CX30 186 Skyactiv X. -The HR-V was by Far the most refined (the Civic and ZR-V , CR-V are the only ones better though) , it has alot of space, noone will mention the luggage space beneath the back seats, which i would say is more then 100l , since there is a big hole underneat them (which are also called "magic" and can be raised). Space on the rear seats is like in Mercedes S Class, nothing i mean nothing comes close from those cars mentioned above. The space behind in the trunk is not really 320 liters, its is far more and also if you count the volume space that can go up till glass its plus, and not to forget there is a large socket in the trunk aswell, + its a flat space when you put your seats down, campers can sleep here with 180cm length . Also Few things to mention -The fuel economy is so great, in city around 2.8-3l without special treat, 3.8l during 100kmh, 5.5 during 120kmh, on 130kmh it is around 6.9 (the CX30 is better on highways) -The performance is around 8.8 to 0-100kmh alot quicker then stated, and is faster them most of the cars in this segment to 80, only the Hyundai Tucson HEV with 260hp feels quicker. -The sound isolation and especially the comfort is AMAZING, PLEASE DO NOT listen to those reviewers out there complaining about the noise, they don't have a CLUE what they are talking about. Maybe they drive Porsche taycans far too often or they just hit the pedal till the medal all the time... Only and i mean ONLY if you 100% throttle heavy foot accelerating on Sport mode (on eco is quiter but slower) the noise from the engine complaining is obvious and many don't know that the models from 2023 and 2024 have better insulation then the previous versions from 2021, which contributes to 10kgs heavier car weight. And for that 100% throttle , well lets be real you will be doing this only to impress or showcase the car, i would say Less then 1-5% of the time, since if you want to pass a car in your line, on a highway or uphil the electric motor by itself with 50% throttle is MORE then fast and the engine will be relatively quiet the e-cvt managing the noise, and if you lift your leg even 5% off the throttle it immedietely silences the roaring so you will get used to that play and you won't loose much acceleration. I cannot imagine how this car is so cheap compared to other ones in B or C segment. And the looks aswell... in the Sunlight White premium, it turns every 3rd head around, it's just Nuts how it attracts attention, maybe people don't know what it is or there are too few of them... You won't have that in Sportage or RAV4 or Tucson trust me .. (if you care about that, which i find it to be uncomfortable)

I just went ahead and bought my 'Advance' on 13th August 2021 & collected it on the 15th January . The things you missed in your review. 1. You can open the tail gate by kicking your foot under the bumper. You can delay closing it by pushing the 'delay' button on the tailgate, walk 10 feet away and it closes automatically, so you can carry two hands full of shopping bags. 2.The door mirrors can dip automatically when selecting reverse. 3. The reversing camera has THREE selectable views. It does NOT have a CVT Gearbox! It has n e:CVT which is NOT a gearbox (as in older ICE Hondas) It has a dog clutch which locks the ICE to the electrical drive system when extra urge is required. Te 'mooing' engine in daily use is completely irrelevant! How long does it take to do an overtake?? Thank God for the lever operated filler flap!. My Karoq's electrical one failed and I had to wreck the flap to open it. Well done Honda! Apart from those above a good review of a brilliant car.

Indonesian will go for the SE trim like on the video. So no worries, this kind of grill SE variant would sell well.

I bought an Ex demo a couple of weeks ago, I had a test drive on 2 separate occasions, I have to say the noise mentioned in the reviews made me test it twice, very happy with it though and having driven it on several. 440 miles round trips in the last 2 weeks and several 90 mile journeys, the fuel economy is brilliant, I've seen 60mpg on my last 90 mile drive driven normally on the A41 to Chester. The noise is there if pushed but it's not a constant intrusion and you do get used to it and it helps if you try to understand why it's making the noise, I've had Merc E class, bmw 5 series, Audi A6 and. Volvo XC90 and V90 and actually think this is my favourite car, with an eye on fuel prices and comfort this is definitely a worthwhile car to consider, plus it looks lovely. Great review as always, I did look for a review by Matt before buying tbf.

From Australia Agree - Having owned from new Mercedes - BMW - VW as well as many other brands. I drove the Hybrid and was very happy with it. It’s not a prestige car - it’s not expensive- I won’t have to sell a kidney to service it - I won’t worry that it will throw a leg out of bed and lunch something that will cost more than what the car is worth - I’m over paying a fortune for Euro’s then getting bugger all as a trade - The motor industry is at the beginning of huge change toward EV and/or Hydrogen. I just see this car as a practical, cheap and risk free transitional car.

The honda immd hybrid system, now on the 1.5 l class (before it was only 2.0 l on the accord) has a similar working to the nissan e-power. The engine acts as a generator most of the time, leaving 1 motor to drive the wheels. However on a highway cruise, unlike Nissan, the engine is able to direct drive to the wheels without any electric interference (except trickle charging maybe)

Gotta say with those push to release fuel caps, you can't close them if the cars locked. So you can't lock your car whilst you fill up at the petrol station. (At least it is the case with the Hyundai i30) Lever releases are far better in that regard.

I took a test drive with this car a few days ago. Overall I really liked it. Good looking, good quality feeling, good consumption, good storage (for its size), good price. But I could not find a good driving position. I'm 183cm tall and whatever I did the steering wheel was either too far away, or the pedals was too close. Had the same issue in Volvo XC40. The infotainment is OK. I also noticed the break noise. Felt low quality. The hybrid system is interesting. Driving in a parking area it used only battery and run quiet. When the engine decided to start it was very smooth and quiet. However in a highway it was kinda noisy. But not too noisy to be an issue.

However I really want to comment on this AMAZING REVIEW. This is so much better than other reviews I've seen, not timid and just tells it like it is. As for the mystery 8.7 seconds, I've also seen wide variability in 0-60 scores for the Corolla Cross, just released here, but mostly unavailable due to shortages.

Almost all reviewers on youtube say about this car that it has a CVT gearbox but actually it does not. In fact this car has no gearbox at all! Basically it's an electric car but instead of having a big heavy battery, they added a combustion engine that only generates electricity for the electric motor, except on higher speeds where it can connect directly to the wheels because it's more economical (on high speed the electric motor is not efficient). Also the adaptive cruise control only uses the camera (like on newer tesla's), it has no front grill radar.

On the topic of why there are still cars with manual releases for the fuel filler cap. I just had to change the entire lock mechanism on my 7 year old golf because it had worn out. So perhaps they have just determined that the MASSIVE (not really) inconvenience of pulling a lever when you stop at the pump is superior to adding complexity and the inevitable costly changing of something that is not going to last the life of the car.... It's the difference between cars made to last and cars made to be nice until the warranty is gone, then fleece them on the extra maintenance costs.

Looking at one of these. Am used to the eCVT system with having a RAV 4. The sport function does allow you to accelerate without the noisy over-revving. Just takes a little getting used to. Test drive coming up.

Love that front grill and isn't that rear seat ingenious? It means you could probably get a bike in the back and do the dump run in it?? And because it's a Honda it shouldn't break down afterwards

So as a note, all cvt transmissions make such a noice when accelerating. Obviously you really dont have any gears to go through so it only adjusts the ratio to be in the widest optimal range of the petrol engine. Cvt gearboxes are one of the best solutions and really economical options when developing hybrid engines. The best i think is with the toyota, which did put me off at first but make absolutelly a more enjoyable drive, so long as you have enough power, which i think thenew hrv doesnt. Should have atleast 200hp to be usefull imo and it would still have good milege

Love your videos! But if i can suggest something it would be to add km/h aswell as mph so your international viewers can understand. The second thing would be to get a traffic light for the dragraces, i often see the difference in the start when the countdown begins and i thinking it would be easier for everyone just to check the light.

Britain's a really weird place when it comes to units. Speed in mph, fuel economy in miles/gallon, cargo capacity in litres (too small of a unit for cargo capacity), they weigh cars in kilos but weigh people in stones like they're cavemen.

I was so tempted with this for when my Civic PCP comes up, but that transmission is a deal-breaker. They're lagging behind Toyota on the "cvt" front.
